NY unemployment approved 7 weeks ago but still no payments - help!

So I got approved for unemployment about 7 weeks ago after getting laid off from my retail job. My claim says 'approved' when I check online and I've been filing my weekly certifications like clockwork every Sunday. But I haven't received a single payment yet! I keep checking my bank account and there's nothing there. The system shows all my weekly claims as 'processed' but no money has been deposited. I tried calling the unemployment office like 30 times but I either get disconnected or stuck on hold forever. I really need this money for rent and bills that are piling up. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to actually get your payments started?

Eleanor Foster

Same boat. My claim was approved in December, been certifying weekly since then and zero payments. The status shows as 'processed' but my bank account is just getting emptier. I literally cannot get through to anyone. Tried calling at all hours, emailed the general info address, nothing works. It's been almost 9 weeks for me now 😡

9 weeks?! omg I'm screwed. Did you ever manage to talk to a person? I'm thinking I might have to physically go to an office at this point.

Nope, never got a human. Offices are all appointment only and guess what - you need to call to get an appointment. Complete nightmare.

this is why I ended up using claimyr.com - only way I could actually get someone on the phone after weeks of trying

After waiting almost 2 months with no payments despite being approved, I finally found a service that helped me get through to an actual agent. Used claimyr.com and they got me a callback with a live agent within hours. Best decision ever because talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. is this some kinda scam? sounds too good to be true...

Kai Rivera

Not a scam at all! I was desperate after 8 weeks of no payments. They just call on your behalf and then connect you when they get a real person. No different than having a friend call for you except they have a system to stay on hold.

do they like ask for your ssn or personal info? Not tryna get scammed when I'm already broke lol

Kai Rivera

They don't ask for ANY of your info. They just call the unemployment line and when they get a person, they connect the call to your phone. Then YOU talk directly to unemployment.

yo this sounds interesting. how long did it take to actually get the money after you talked to someone?

Kai Rivera

For me it was like 3 days after I talked to the agent. Turns out there was a stupid flag on my account they needed to remove. Fixed it in 5 minutes once I actually got someone.

Check if there's an outstanding issue on your account. Login to your portal and look for any messages or alerts. Sometimes they need additional documentation but they never tell you directly 🙄

Omg this exact thing happened to me! Approved in February but no payments until April. Turns out I had an 'identity verification issue' that no one bothered to tell me about! You HAVE to call them. I know it sucks but keep trying different times of the day. I finally got through at 8:03am on a Tuesday.

What number did you call? I've been using the main one but maybe there's a better direct line?

I used the main number. Try calling right when they open, like literally the minute they open. I set an alarm for it lol

The NY unemployment system is BROKEN. I swear they approve people just to make their numbers look good, then make it impossible to actually get paid. I went through this last year - took me 11 weeks to get my first payment and then they backdated everything. Just keep calling and documenting everything.

facts 💯 This is exactly what they do. It's all about those stats they report to the feds.

Have you made sure your direct deposit info is correct? I had this issue where I mistyped one digit in my account number and the money was going into the void. Check that first before you spend hours trying to call.

Just double checked and all my bank info is correct. But thanks for the suggestion!

Ok just wanted to make sure cuz that was literally my problem for like a month 😭

I work for a nonprofit that helps ppl with unemployment issues. Here's what you need to know: 1) Most delayed payments are caused by identity verification issues, work search documentation problems, or system flags from previous claims 2) The system shows 'processed' for EVERYONE, even if there's a problem - it's extremely misleading 3) You NEED to speak with an agent to resolve this. Unfortunately, the phone system is overwhelmed 4) Try the callback request form on the website, but honestly it's hit or miss 5) If you're desperate (and many are), services like claimyr.com can help you get through. They've helped several of our clients 6) Once you get an agent, be prepared with your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and exact dates of your claim and certifications 7) Request that they search for any flags or outstanding issues on your account 8) Ask for a supervisor if the agent can't see any problems Good luck! The system is frustrating but persistence pays off.

Thank you so much for this detailed info! Really helpful. I'll try the callback form first and then look into claimyr if that doesn't work.

is claimyr actually worth it tho? seems like paying for something that should be free 🤔

If you've been waiting 7+ weeks for thousands in benefits, the cost is negligible compared to what you're missing out on. But try the free methods first, of course.

i had this exact problem last month. turned out I had answered one question on my weekly certification wrong (said no to being available for work when I was sick for 2 days 🤦‍♂️). That stopped ALL my payments. Agent fixed it in minutes once I got through.

Did u check to see if they mailed a debit card instead of using direct deposit? sometimes they default to that and send it without telling u. happened to my cousin

0 coins

-

Nathan Kim

I definitely selected direct deposit and my bank info is showing in my profile. But I guess it's possible they ignored that? How long did the card take to arrive for your cousin?

took like 2-3 weeks to come in the mail. was some random envelope he almost threw away cuz it looked like junk mail lol

the only way i got my claim fixed was contacting my state representative. their office has direct contacts at unemployment. took like 48 hours after i emailed them. worth a try!

This is actually really smart advice. Worked for me too when I had issues last year.

How do I find my state rep? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

not dumb at all! just google "find my NY state representative" and put in your address. then email or call their constituent services office.

I waitted 8 weeks and finaly called using claimyr.com after my friend told me about it. Found out they needed proof of identity even tho they NEVER notified me about it! Agent fixed it right away and I got ALL my back payments 4 days later. Just having a person on the phone makes all the differeince.

another claimyr post? is this some kinda ad campaign or what

nah man just sharing what worked for me. i tried calling like 50+ times myself before giving up and trying this. believe me or don't 🤷‍♂️

I actually used them too after seeing them mentioned here. Worked exactly as described. Got connected to an agent who fixed my claim in about 10 minutes.

WHY IS THIS SYSTEM SO BROKEN?! It's literally designed to prevent people from getting the benefits they're entitled to. I had to call 137 times (yes I counted) to get through last month. Complete joke.

0 coins

-

Kolton Murphy

They're hoping people give up. That's literally the strategy.

137 times is nothing lol. I called over 300 times in one day before I finally said f*** it and used claimyr.com

1000% worth it. got my $4600 in backpay once an agent fixed whatever mysterious problem was on my account

have you tried messaging them on twitter? sounds crazy but their social media team sometimes responds faster than the actual phone support

Just so you know, a lot of people in NY are experiencing delays right now. There was a system update in january that messed everything up. Some claims are getting stuck in verification even when they're approved. It's happening to my brother too.

-

That's good to know it's not just me, but also super frustrating. Did your brother get it resolved?

not yet 😞 he's been waiting almost 10 weeks now

After dealing with ny unemployment for over a year now, here's my advice: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your claim status, certified weeks, any messages, etc. You'll need this evidence when you finally talk to someone. And keep certifying every week even if you're not getting paid yet!

anyone tried going to an actual unemployment office? do they even have those anymore?

Ella rollingthunder87

they're called career centers now but they don't handle claim issues in person anymore since covid. you still gotta call 🙄

Hey, I was in your exact situation 2 weeks ago. After trying to call for a month straight I used claimyr.com and they got me a callback within hours. Agent told me my claim had a fraud flag for some reason 🤬 but they removed it and I got all my backpay last week. It was such a relief! Check them out if you can't get through on your own.

Thank you! Seems like a lot of people have had success with them. Gonna check it out today.
