How long is ny unemployment taking to process payments right now?
I lost my job due to downsizing at the end of March and filed for unemployment in early April. My claim got approved after about two weeks, but now I've been waiting for almost a month and still haven't received any payments. When I check online it says "pending" for all the weeks I've claimed. I've tried calling the unemployment office every day for the past week but can't get through to an actual person. The automated system just tells me my claim is being processed. I'm starting to get really worried because my savings are running low and rent is coming up again soon. My landlord was understanding last month but I don't think he'll be as patient this time. Has anyone else had to wait this long? Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? I certified every week correctly as far as I know.

took me 6 weeks to get my first payment. The system is completely overwhelmed right now. keep certifying every week tho and they'll backpay you when it finally goes through. just gotta wait it out unfortunately

After weeks of trying to get through on the phone and getting nowhere, I finally found a service called Claimyr that helped me talk to an actual human at unemployment. You can check them out at claimyr.com - it was seriously the best money I've spent in a while because talking to a real agent got my payments unlocked within days. They have this system where they wait on hold for you and then call you when they get a rep on the line. Check out this video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•This sounds too good to be true... has anyone else tried this?

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - they literally just wait on hold so you don't have to. It's genius actually. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after 3 weeks of no payments.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been trying to get through for almost a month now

•It worked for me! I got a real person on the phone who fixed my issue in like 10 minutes. My payments came through 2 days later. Worth checking out if ur stuck.

•I actually tried this last week after seeing it mentioned here. Got connected to an agent who unlocked my back payments. Better than the 50+ calls I was making daily.

Mine took 8 weeks!!! The system is completley broken. I had to call my state representative to finally get it fixed. Try that if you have the energy.

•Which representative did you contact? I'm in Queens if that helps.

•I'm in Buffalo so different rep, but just google your local state assembly member. They have staff specifically for helping with unemployment issues. They can sometimes jump the line for you.

I'm on week 7 of waiting. The worst part is you have no idea if somethings wrong or if this is normal. I hate how there's zero communication from them.

•THIS!!! The lack of communication is the most frustrating part. Even an email saying "we're backed up" would help.

•Try checking your spam folder. I found out they had been emailing me for additional info, but it went to spam for 3 weeks 🤦♂️

Everyones experience seems different. My payments started in exactly 14 days after my claim was approved. My friend waited 2 months. Another friend got paid in one week. It's a total crap shoot.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with NY unemployment for way too long: 1. The online system shows "pending" even when there's an issue they need you to resolve. You won't know there's a problem until you talk to someone. 2. Calling is basically impossible during normal hours. Try calling right when they open or 5 minutes before they close. 3. Check if you have a message in your online account inbox - sometimes they send requests for additional info that don't get emailed to you. 4. If you worked multiple jobs or out of state at all in your base period, this often causes delays they won't tell you about. 5. Make sure you're answering the weekly certification questions exactly right. One wrong answer can hold everything up. 6. If it's been more than 3 weeks, honestly the fastest solution is using claimyr.com to get someone on the phone. I know it costs money but it's the only reliable way to get through these days and it worked for me after 5 weeks of nothing. 7. Twitter can sometimes work - tag NYSDOL in a polite tweet about your situation. The system is completely overloaded but once you get someone on the phone, they can usually fix things quickly. Good luck!

•Point #3 is so important! I had a message sitting in my account for weeks asking for pay stubs but never got an email about it.

have you checked your payment method? my BFF was waiting forever and it turns out they were trying to deposit to an old closed account

•I double checked and my direct deposit info is correct. But thanks for the suggestion!

Are you sure you don't have any unresolved issues on your claim? Sometimes the system will say pending but there's actually a problem they need info for.

the unemployment website is hot garbage 🗑️ i swear it was designed in 1992 and never updated. half the time it crashes when I try to certify

•Try using it on a different browser. Chrome seems to work better than Safari or Firefox in my experience.

I know this is frustrating but hang in there. When my payments finally came through last month, I got everything backdated to my first week. The waiting is horrible tho, I feel your pain.

sometimes they're waiting on verification from your employer. call your old HR and make sure they aren't holding things up on their end

•That's a good point - I'll reach out to my former employer tomorrow to check.

FWIW I had to contact my state senator's office after waiting 9 weeks. They have a dedicated person who handles unemployment issues and got my claim fixed in 3 days after I spent months getting nowhere.

anybody else notice how they make this process so confusing on purpose? like they're trying to discourage people from collecting what they're owed 😡

•100% this. The system is designed to be frustrating so people give up. It's disgusting.

•i dont think its on purpose, just decades of underfunding and outdated technology. never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence 😂

•After what I've been through, I'm going with malice lol. No system could be this bad by accident!

My sister had this same issue - turned out there was a flag on her account because her former employer contested the unemployment claim. She had no idea until she finally got thru to a rep. Might be worth checking if ur employer is fighting it.

I finally got my payments after 5 weeks but only after I submitted a complaint through the governor's office website. Magically got a call from someone at unemployment the next day. Coincidence? I think not.

Look, if your rent is due and you're desperate, don't just wait. USE CLAIMYR. claimyr.com seriously - I was in your position and going crazy. Paid for their service and got a rep on the phone that day who fixed my claim. Sometimes you gotta spend money to get your money, ya know?

•I get the skepticism but I was desperate after 7 weeks no payment. This actually worked. I got $4200 in backpay two days after talking to the agent they connected me with.
