Reapplied for ny unemployment but funds not releasing after successful claims

So I had to reapply for unemployment in February after my benefit year ended. The process seemed to go smoothly - I filled everything out online, got a confirmation text that my application was approved, and it said I could start claiming benefits. For the last 3 weeks I've been certifying weekly like normal, but absolutely nothing has been deposited into my account. The system shows my claims as "processed" but there's zero money showing up. I've tried calling about a million times but can't get through to anyone. My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out. Has anyone else dealt with this after reapplying? What am I missing here?

Same exact thing happened to me back in December. It's frustrating as hell. I think there's a verification hold they don't tell you about. It took 6 weeks for my payments to actually start coming thru after reapplying, even though the website said everything was good to go.

6 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long! Did you do anything to speed it up or just had to wait it out?

I wish I had better news but I just had to wait. They eventually sent me all the backpay at once tho

After hitting the same wall for weeks, I finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Talking to a real agent got my payments released within 48 hours! They basically call for you and connect you when an agent picks up. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for days. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This sounds like an ad. Does this actually work? I've tried so many different "tricks" to get through on the phone.

Not an ad lol, I was desperate after 3 weeks of no money. It worked for me - got my backpay released after one call with an agent. Best decision I made after wasting hours redialing.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch. It just puts you in the call queue and calls you when an agent answers. Beats spending your whole day on hold or hitting redial.

I used this too! Totally worth it to finally get someone on the phone after weeks of trying myself. My payments started 2 days after talking to them.

Check if you have an outstanding questionnaire or document they need. Log into your account and look for any messages or action items. Sometimes they need additional info but the notification gets lost.

This might sound obvious but double check your direct deposit info. When I reapplied, somehow my banking info got messed up and they were trying to send $ to an old account.

Just checked and my banking info is correct. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ughhh the NY unemployment system is such a joke. I swear they build these delays into the system on purpose to save money. If everyone has to wait weeks for payments, that's millions they don't have to pay out right away.

💯 Facts. They're counting on people giving up or finding jobs before they have to pay.

Did you receive a monetary determination letter? After you reapply they're supposed to send you a letter or email showing your benefit amount. If you didn't get that, something's definitely stuck in the system.

I got a text saying I was approved but never received an actual letter. Maybe that's the issue?

Yep, that's probably it. You need the official determination before payments start flowing. Try checking your online message center too.

Here's what worked for me with the ny unemployment system when I had payment delays after reapplying: First, make sure you've thoroughly checked your online account for any pending questionnaires or documents they need. These can be hidden in weird places in the portal. Second, check if you received an official monetary determination letter (not just a text) - this is crucial as it confirms your benefit amount. Third, try contacting them through multiple channels simultaneously - phone, email, and even reaching out to your state representative's office. Sometimes the rep's office can escalate your case. Fourth, if you can't get through on the phone after multiple attempts (which is extremely common), I'd highly recommend using Claimyr.com - it's a service that waits on hold for you and connects you with an agent when they pick up. Getting through to an actual person is often the only way to resolve these issues quickly. Fifth, document everything - dates you certified, confirmation numbers, and any communication attempts. This will help if you need to prove you've been trying to resolve the issue. Lastly, know that backpay is standard once they fix whatever is causing the delay. You won't lose any money you're entitled to, even if it takes weeks to sort out.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'm going to try contacting my state rep tomorrow and check out that Claimyr service. At this point I just need to talk to a human being who can help.

The state rep tip actually works! My sister was stuck for a month and her assembly person got it fixed in 3 days

Call them at exactly 7:59am. That's how I got through after my reapplication. The system puts you in queue right at 8 when they open and the wait time is way shorter.

tried this for 2 weeks straight and still couldn't get through 🤬 the system is rigged

Send them a message through the contact form on the website. I know it seems useless but I actually got a callback after doing this when I couldn't get through on the phone. Just be super specific about your issue in the message.

Did you move or change any personal info recently? My friend had this same issue and it turned out there was a address mismatch that flagged his account for review.

-

Ella Russell

I did move actually... about 3 months ago. But I updated my address with them when I reapplied. Could that still be causing problems?

100% yes. Address changes are one of the biggest triggers for payment holds. They're paranoid about fraud.

I was skeptical too but Claimyr actually worked for me after trying everything else. They just hold your place in line basically. Got me talking to someone in about 2 hours instead of days of trying myself.

Just a heads up - if you reapplied and your new weekly benefit amount is different than before, sometimes that triggers a review that can delay things. might be worth checking if your benefit amount changed.

Have you tried tweeting at NYSDOL? I know it sounds stupid but sometimes public complaints get faster attention. Just don't share any personal info obviously.

THIS!! My cousin did this and got a DM asking for his info to look into his case. Worth trying!

I had the exact same issue last month. Turned out there was a quarterly review flag on my account that was holding everything up. Once I got thru to someone they fixed it in like 2 minutes and I got paid the next day. So annoying.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS?

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when a friend told me about Claimyr. Figured what the hell, can't be worse than what I'm doing. Got a callback with an agent that same day and they fixed my issue right there. The trick is you still need to know what to say to the agent when they call.

Check if you have two accounts now. Sometimes when you reapply it creates a new claim instead of extending the old one, and that can cause massive confusion in their system. Ask specifically about this when you talk to someone.

sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this?

0 coins

-

Yara Campbell

Yep, used it last week after seeing it recommended here. It works exactly as advertised - they call and wait on hold, then your phone rings when an agent is on the line. Beats the hell out of doing it yourself.

I tried it too. Worked fine. Not a miracle but definitely saved me hours of frustration.
