NY unemployment payments not releasing after reapplication - certified for 2 weeks with no payment

I had to reapply for NY unemployment last month after my benefit year ended. I completed the reapplication online, and then received a text saying I'm eligible to claim and get paid. Great news, right? Well, I've been certifying for the past 2 weeks exactly like before, but NOTHING has been released to my account. No payments, no messages, nothing! The website just shows 'pending' with no explanation. Has anyone dealt with this after reapplying? I'm getting really worried since bills are piling up and I was counting on these payments.

This actually happens quite often after reapplications. The system shows you as approved, but there's often an internal review that happens behind the scenes. When you reapply, they essentially create a new claim that needs to go through several verification steps even though you've been told you're eligible. Have you checked your payment history section to see if it shows any pending payments or just nothing at all?

Thanks for responding! It shows the weeks as 'processed' but with $0.00 for payment amount. I don't understand why they'd tell me I'm eligible if they weren't going to pay me. Feels like I'm stuck in limbo.

Check if you have a message in your inbox on the unemployment website. Sometimes they require additional documentation after reapplication but don't tell you except through the message system on the site.

Just checked and there's nothing new in my inbox. So frustrating!

You need to call them. This is exactly what happened to me in March - reapplied, got approved, certified, but no payments for almost 3 weeks. Turns out they needed to manually review something on my account. The only way to fix it was getting an actual person on the phone. I wasted days trying to get through on the regular line until I discovered this service called Claimyr. It got me through to a NYSDOL rep in about 35 minutes when I'd been trying for days with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I finally got a person, they found the issue and fixed it that day. My payments started again immediately including all the backpay I was owed.

I've been trying to call for the past week with no luck. Always get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I'll check out that service you mentioned - at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Did they explain why your payments were held up?

Yes, they said my new claim triggered an automatic review because I had worked part-time during my previous claim period. Even though I reported all that income correctly, they still needed to manually verify it. The agent was able to see exactly what was holding things up and processed an override. Check out claimyr.com - it saved me so much frustration.

This is a common issue with NYSDOL's reapplication process. There are several possible reasons for the delay: 1. Monetary determination review - They may be verifying your wages 2. Identity verification issues (especially if you used a different device to reapply) 3. Work search requirement discrepancies 4. Cross-matching with employer records The system shows you're eligible based on initial automated checks, but then manual reviews can hold up actual payment. Unfortunately, calling is really your best option here, as frustrating as that is. The current average wait for issues like this to resolve without intervention is 17-21 days according to recent department statistics. One thing you can try while waiting: submit a message through your online account specifically stating "Payment Release Request - Completed Reapplication" in the subject line. This sometimes flags your account for faster review.

Thank you for such detailed information! I'll definitely try sending that message right away. I did work a few temp jobs between my original claim and reapplication, so maybe that's causing the holdup. I reported everything correctly though!

That's likely the issue then. When you report intermittent work, it often triggers what's called a "wage investigation" where they verify those earnings match what employers reported. Even if you did everything right, the verification process can take time. Definitely try both sending the message and making contact by phone if possible.

my cousin works for nysdol. says theres a HUGE backlog right now of reapplications. theyre like 3 weeks behind in processing. its not just you!!!

I don't think that's accurate. I reapplied just last week and my payments started immediately. It's more likely there's something specific with the OP's claim that requires review. Not everyone experiences delays.

maybe ur right but thats what my cousin told me and she LITERALLY works there so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at NYSDOL! Used that Claimyr service mentioned above and got connected in about 25 minutes after trying for over a week on my own with no luck. The agent told me my claim had a "verification hold" because I had worked for 3 different employers during my previous benefit year. They needed to manually review those wages even though I had reported everything correctly each week. The good news is she removed the hold right away, and my payments should process overnight! She also said I'll receive all the back payments for the weeks I certified. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

This is great news! It's always something specific like this that causes the holdup. Glad you got it resolved and will be receiving your backpay. For anyone else reading this in the future - this is why getting an actual person on the phone is so important with these issues.
