NY unemployment payment missing this week but benefits end next week - no processing shown
I'm freaking out a little. My NY unemployment benefits are supposed to end next week, but I didn't even receive THIS week's payment! I claimed on Sunday like normal, but it's now Thursday and nothing has shown up in my account. When I check the payment history section, this week's claim doesn't even show as being processed at all. There's just nothing there for this week. I haven't received any emails or letters about verifying my identity through ID.me or anything else that might explain the delay. I've tried calling the unemployment office multiple times but it's constantly busy and just disconnects me. Has anyone experienced something similar recently? Is this normal right before benefits end? I'm really counting on this last payment...

probably just a system glitch. happens all the time. sometimes they skip a week and then pay u double the next week

Really? That's somewhat reassuring. Have you actually had that happen where it paid double the following week? I can survive until then but it's so stressful not knowing...

This happened to me in January. There's actually a small note in the handbook that says they sometimes do additional verification in the final weeks of your benefit period. Mine took 9 days to process and then showed up. I'd recommend logging in every day to check your payment history and also check your message inbox on the portal. Sometimes they send notices there that don't go to your email. Double check that you didn't hit your BYE (Benefit Year End) date earlier than you thought too.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! I didn't realize they might do extra verification near the end. I'll keep checking my portal messages - didn't even think to look there. My BYE date should be next month, but I'll verify that too.

I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month!!! They never sent ANY notification but when I finally got through to someone they said I needed to verify my employment history AGAIN even though I already did it when I first applied!!! The system is completely BROKEN and they don't care at all about us!! I lost two weeks of payments because of their stupid verification process that they never even told me about!!!!

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about. Did you eventually get your back payments? Or did they just deny you completely?

Your claim may have been flagged for review. This is fairly common, especially as you approach the end of your benefit period. Unfortunately, the only way to get a clear answer is to speak with an agent directly. I've been in this exact situation and spent days trying to get through on the phones. I eventually used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual NYSDOL agent in about 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I got through, the agent confirmed my claim needed additional verification and they processed it right away. My payment showed up 2 days later. Definitely worth checking out if you can't get through on your own.

is this legit? sounds kinda sketchy to have some third party service handle unemployment stuff. no offense

I understand the concern. They don't actually handle your unemployment claim or have access to your account. They just help you get through the phone system to speak with a real NYSDOL agent yourself. I was skeptical too but it worked for me when I was desperate.

When exactly did you certify on Sunday? Sometimes if you certify late in the evening, the system processes it as a Monday certification, which can delay things by a day. Also, did you answer any of the certification questions differently than usual? Even small changes can trigger a manual review. It's also possible there was a technical issue with the certification itself. Try logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and logging back in to see if the payment status updates. The system can sometimes show different information after a fresh login.

I certified around noon on Sunday, so it shouldn't have been processed as Monday. And no, I answered everything exactly the same as always. I'll try clearing my cache though - that's a good suggestion I hadn't thought of.

That's actually really helpful. I moved about 6 months ago but I'm pretty sure I updated everything in the system. Maybe something got missed. How did you eventually get through on the phone? I've been trying all day with no luck.

I tried that Claimyr thing the other person mentioned when I had issues with my claim last month. It actually worked pretty well. Got through to an agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. The agent told me my account was flagged because I had worked a part-time job for one week and reported the income (which is what you're supposed to do!) but apparently that triggered some automatic review. Not sure if that's what's happening in your case, but it sounds similar. Did you do any part-time work recently?

I did pick up a one-day gig two weeks ago and reported it on my certification. That reduced my payment amount that week, which was fine, but I didn't think it would affect anything after that. Maybe that's the issue! I'm going to try to get through to someone tomorrow morning.

Just to follow up - when you're approaching the end of your benefit year, the system often does additional automated checks. Since you mentioned you did some part-time work recently, that could definitely trigger a review. The good news is that these reviews generally get resolved positively if everything was reported correctly. I recommend checking your payment history daily and also keeping an eye on your correspondence inbox on the portal. If nothing updates by Monday, definitely pursue getting through to an agent as others have suggested.

Thank you for the follow-up! It's been really stressful not knowing what's happening. I'll keep checking both places and try to get through to someone if nothing changes by Monday. I really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions!
