Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Mine never came and i found out someone stole it from my mailbox and drained it 😠Had to file a police report and everything. Took 2 months to get my money back.
Yes after filing police report and tons of paperwork they refunded everything. But it was a huge headache and I was broke meanwhile.
This happened to my neighbor too! Now I get everything direct deposited or I use a PO Box.

congrats on winning ur case! 14 weeks is crazy long. my employer tried to fight my claim too saying i quit but i had proof i was laid off. keybank cards usually take 7-10 business days but can be slower around holidays

NY unemployment is a freaking disaster right now. I work at a nonprofit that helps people navigate benefits, and about half our clients have backdating issues. They're rejecting a lot more backdating requests than they used to, claiming people don't have "good cause" for late filing. Have a REALLY solid explanation ready for why you waited.

•That's actually a good reason! Other acceptable ones: health issues, technology barriers, confusion about eligibility, misinformation from employer, or language barriers. They're less sympathetic to "I thought I'd find a job quickly" but sometimes that works too.
The system is designed to be confusing on purpose so they can deny more claims. It's disgusting.

When this happened to me in February I tried contacting my state representative and they actually helped! Their office has direct contacts at unemployment who can flag your account for fraud. Worth a shot if you're getting nowhere with the phone lines.
That's a great idea. Which rep did you contact? Was it your state senator or assembly member?
Assembly member. Their constituent services person handled everything for me. Took about a week but way better than trying to handle it all myself.
Don't just report to NY unemployment!!! Also report to: - Local police - FTC (identitytheft.gov) - Your employer - Social Security Administration - IRS (to prevent tax fraud) The more documentation you have, the better protected you'll be. Trust me - I've been dealing with this since November and it's a nightmare if you don't cover all bases quickly.

Have u filed a fraud report with the police? I had to do that before ny unemployment would take my case seriously. Once I had a police report number they escalated my claim.

Check ur claim status online. Sometimes they fix issues without telling u and u might suddenly see payments pending. Happened to me after weeks of radio silence.

•Not a scam - they just do the annoying part of calling over and over for you. Once they get through, your phone rings and you talk directly to the unemployment agent. No different than if a friend kept calling for you until they got through
