Waiting on ny unemployment back pay docusigns while pregnant and working minimal hours - anyone got theirs expedited?
Been waiting for my backpay docusigns to come through since getting approved. Finally got my first payment this week after filing back in June 2022. Working barely 12 hours a week currently and expecting a baby next month. Money is super tight right now. Anyone know if I can call and get the backpay process sped up? How long did it take for others to get their backpay docs processed? Could really use that money before the holidays and before my little one arrives. This wait is killing me financially.

Congrats on your first payment! took me about 6 weeks from first payment to get my docusign backpay forms. After I completed them, the money came within 3 business days. you can definitely call to try and light a fire under them but they never seem to expedite anything in my experience. Hang in there!!

After struggling to get ANY payments, I tried a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual person at unemployment. Totally worth it for me - the agent I spoke with pushed my backpay docusigns through in 2 weeks instead of the normal wait. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast! Check out this video too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•does this actually work? I've been trying to get through to someone for weeks about my backpay 🤔

•Yeah it worked for me! They basically stay on hold for you and call when there's a real person. Then you just pick up and talk to the agent.

•sounds like a commercial lol... how do we know this isn't just another scam?

•Not a scam - I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call for 3 weeks straight. It worked and I finally got an agent who fixed my issues. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after weeks of trying.

•It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. Consider how many hours of your time you've already wasted trying to call them yourself.

I had to wait 3 months for my backpay after first payment. The system is just brutal. Make sure ALL your certifications are done properly in the system too. One mistake on those can delay everything.

They don't expedite anything. Trust me, I tried everything - calling daily, crying, mentioning my kids, explaining financial hardship. Nothing worked. Just had to wait my turn like everyone else. Took 8 weeks from first payment to get docusigns.

•😭😭 that's so disheartening. How do they expect people to survive??

•they dont care tbh. the system is designed to be frustrating so people give up

Pro tip: when you DO get the docusign emails, complete them IMMEDIATELY. They expire after a few days and if you miss the window, you'll have to request them again which takes forever. I learned this the hard way and it cost me an extra month of waiting.

I'm an employment attorney (not legal advice). The NY unemployment system is seriously backlogged right now. Your best chance for expediting is if you can prove severe hardship - eviction notice, utility shut-off notice, or medical necessity. Pregnancy alone usually doesn't qualify as 'emergency' to them, unfortunately. Document EVERYTHING and be persistent.

•Would a note from my doctor about pregnancy complications help? My blood pressure has been high lately.

•It might - especially if doctor indicates bed rest or inability to work. Worth trying, but no guarantees with NYSDOL.

I FINALLY got mine after 9 weeks of waiting and daily calls. what worked for me was finding a specific agent who was helpful (took like 10 calls) and then asking for their direct extension. Not all agents will give this but some will. Once I had a specific person helping me things moved WAY faster.

My friend works at ny unemployment (dont tell anyone lol). She says they're dealing with a huge backpay backlog right now from a system update they did in October. They're processing in order based on when first payment was issued, not based on when you file or call. So unfortunately calling won't speed it up unless there's an actual error with your claim.

Here's my full breakdown of the backpay process based on my experience and talking with dozens of other claimants: First, congrats on getting your first payment - that's a huge hurdle cleared! The backpay process is frustrating but follows a somewhat predictable pattern: - After first payment, your file gets transferred to the backpay department - They review ALL your certifications for the entire period (this takes time) - If everything looks good, docusign emails get generated (usually 2-8 weeks after first payment) - Once you sign and submit those, payment typically processes in 3-10 business days Tips to speed things up: - Actually SPEAKING to an agent is critical. The online system won't help expedite. Use claimyr.com if you can't get through on the phones. - Have all your documentation ready - pay stubs from partial work, separation letter from employer, etc. - Be super nice to agents (they deal with angry people all day) - Check your email spam folder DAILY - If you have legitimate hardship documentation (eviction notice, etc), mention that specifically I know it's incredibly hard to wait when you're expecting a baby and money is tight. Hang in there and don't give up!

•thats not normal tho. Something is wrong with your claim specifically. Have you tried contacting your state rep? That's what finally worked for me.

•tried everything. at this point im convinced they just dont want to pay me the $14k they owe me 🤷♂️

Random tip: if you're having a hard time getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open at 8am or in the last hour before they close. Way less wait time in my experience.

Don't just rely on calling. Email them too at the general unemployment email. Make sure your subject line clearly states 'BACKPAY DOCUSIGN REQUEST - URGENT FINANCIAL HARDSHIP'. I got a response within 48 hours this way.

•It should be on your ny unemployment portal. I don't want to post it publicly

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? That's what finally worked for me after waiting 2 months. They have special contacts at unemployment and can often speed things up when there's a legitimate hardship.

•I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my rep?

Pedro Sawyer
•Google "find my NY state assembly member" - they have forms on their websites specifically for unemployment help

This happened to me last year! Having a baby due and waiting on backpay was so stressful. I ended up getting through to someone who helped after I mentioned I was about to lose my apartment. Took about 5 weeks total from first payment.

•Ugh 5 weeks still seems so long. Did you just keep calling until you got through?

•Honestly I used claimyr.com because I was desperate and couldn't sit on hold for hours with a toddler running around. Got through same day.
