NY unemployment backpay still pending DocuSign - been waiting since 2025
I'm desperately waiting on my DocuSign forms to process so I can get my NY unemployment backpay. Really hoping it comes through before the holidays and especially before my baby arrives! Times are tough right now - I'm only working like 8-10 hours a week at my part-time job which barely covers anything. Just got my first regular unemployment payment this week after filing back in June 2025 (5 months of waiting!!!). Has anyone else experienced these long backpay delays? Is there any way to call NYSDOL and ask them to expedite the DocuSign process? I'm getting really worried that something's wrong with my claim. Any advice would be SO appreciated!

Congrats on finally getting your first payment! The DocuSign backpay process is unfortunately very slow right now. I was in a similar situation in August - waited about 7 weeks for my backpay after receiving the DocuSign forms. What helped me was calling the appeals department (not the regular helpline) and explaining my hardship situation. Since you're expecting a baby, that might help prioritize your case. Make sure you have your claim ID and the date you received the DocuSign forms when you call.

•Thank you so much! I didn't even know calling the appeals department was an option. Do you happen to have that number? And should I mention anything specific when I call them?

OMG the backpay situation is such a mess right now!! I waited TWO MONTHS after signing those stupid forms. And my friend is still waiting after 3 months!!! The system is completely broken. They never tell you how long it will actually take. 😡

•Oh no, that's so frustrating! Did you do anything that finally got them to process yours? I'm getting worried I might be waiting until after the baby comes at this rate.

•The whole system is designed to make us give up! They WANT us to get frustrated and stop pursuing what we're legally entitled to. Don't give up!!!

I was in this exact situation back in September. The DocuSign backpay can take 4-10 weeks to process after submission, according to the agent I spoke with. But here's what worked for me - I was getting nowhere with the regular phone lines (always busy or disconnected), but then I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual NYSDOL agent. They have this service that connects you directly without the wait. They even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent I spoke with was able to see that my DocuSign forms were sitting in someone's queue and escalated it due to my financial hardship. Got my backpay 5 days later. Worth trying, especially with a baby on the way!

•Thank you! I didn't know a service like that existed. I'm going to check out that video right now. At this point I'd try anything to get through to someone who can actually help.

My cousin works for NYSDOL (not in claims dept) and says the backpay for DocuSign is super backed up right now because they switched systems in October. Your best bet is to call and specifically say you have a hardship situation. Be prepared to wait though, the average wait time is like 3hrs according to him.

•This is actually incorrect information. NYSDOL did not switch systems in October. They updated their online portal in August, but the DocuSign process remains the same as it has been since early 2025. The backlog is due to staffing shortages in the verification department, not a system change. Please be careful about spreading misinformation as it can cause more confusion for claimants.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Update: I tried calling the regular unemployment line 6 times yesterday and couldn't get through. Then I checked out that Claimyr service that @profile3 mentioned and actually got through to an agent in about 15 minutes! The agent said my DocuSign forms were received but sitting in the verification queue. She noted my pregnancy and financial hardship on my account and said she'd flag it for expedited processing. Fingers crossed this works! I'll update once I hear anything.

•That's great news! The expedited processing should help. When I had my claim flagged for hardship, it took about 8-10 days for the backpay to come through. Make sure you keep checking your payment history in your online account - sometimes they don't send a notification when the payment is issued.

i had a similar issue last month and what worked for me was emailing my state representative. they have staff who deal with unemployment issues and can sometimes cut through the red tape. worth a try if the expedited processing doesnt pan out quickly

To clarify some information here: The current DocuSign backpay process for NY unemployment typically takes 4-6 weeks under normal circumstances, but we're seeing delays of 8-10 weeks due to the high volume of claims being processed. Your best options are: 1. Request expedited processing due to financial hardship (pregnancy qualifies) 2. Contact your state assembly member's office 3. If you've already waited more than 8 weeks, you can file for a determination hearing The NYSDOL is legally required to process your backpay once the DocuSign forms are properly submitted, but the timeline is unfortunately not guaranteed. Make sure you've completed all sections of the form and that your identity verification is also complete in the system.

•Thank you for this detailed information! The agent did confirm that my identity verification is complete, so at least that part is done. What exactly is a determination hearing and how would I request one if needed?

A determination hearing is a formal review of your claim where you can present your case for why your backpay should be processed immediately. To request one, you need to submit form TC-1 (Request for Hearing) through your online account or by mail. However, I wouldn't recommend this route yet since you've now had your claim flagged for expedited processing. Give that process about two weeks before taking additional steps. The determination hearing process itself can take 3-4 weeks to schedule.

•Got it, thank you! I'll wait to see if the expedited processing works first. Really appreciate everyone's help with this!

Quick suggestion - while you're waiting, make sure all your weekly certifications are still being submitted correctly, even if you're working part-time. Some people focus so much on the backpay that they forget to keep certifying, which can create new problems. And congrats on the baby - when are you due?

•That's a really good reminder! Yes, I'm still certifying every Sunday and reporting my part-time hours accurately. I'm due in about 6 weeks, so really hoping to get this resolved before then. The extra stress isn't good for either of us right now.

FINAL UPDATE: My backpay finally came through! It took 9 days after getting my claim flagged for expedited processing. The full amount was deposited directly to my account this morning. Such a huge relief before the holidays. Thanks everyone for your help and advice! For anyone else in this situation, definitely try to speak with an agent directly about hardship expediting - it really worked!
