How long for NY unemployment retroactive pay DocuSign? Waiting 4 weeks with newborn coming
Submitted my retroactive payment request almost 4 weeks ago and still haven't gotten any DocuSign emails. My baby is due right after Christmas and I've only been able to get about 12-17 hours weekly at my job. Called the unemployment office twice but got disconnected both times after waiting forever. Anyone know if there's a way to get them to speed up the process? Can they make exceptions for people with babies on the way? I'm starting to panic about bills piling up with the holidays and a newborn coming.

I had to wait almost 6 weeks for mine. The holidays make everything worse with the backlog. Sorry to say but there's nothing that really speeds it up unless you get lucky with a nice agent who puts a note in your file.

•6 weeks?! I'm gonna lose my mind waiting that long with a newborn. Did you try calling multiple times?

•Yeah I called like 5 times. Total waste of time except one agent told me there's nothing wrong with my claim, just gotta wait in line basically. The system is completly broken

•This is why I just gave up on backpay altogether. Not worth the stress.

After trying for weeks to reach someone about my backpay, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me a callback from an agent. Took about 2 hours but they connected me with a real person who fixed everything. The DocuSign emails arrived the next day! Speaking to an actual agent made all the difference and got my money processed before my due date. Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yeah it actually works! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - they can see everything in your file and push things through when needed.

•another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol. has anyone else used this?

•I used it last month! The callback happened faster than I expected. Definitely worth it when you're desperate and need to talk to someone.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•It's not like those scammy services. They just help you get through to an actual DOL agent - the same ones you'd talk to if you could get through yourself. They don't file anything for you or whatever, just get you past the phone hell.

Call the moment they open. Like literally be dialing at 7:59am. That's the ONLY way I got through without waiting 3+ hours. You can try to explain your situation about the baby coming and see if they'll expedite it. Sometimes they will if there's hardship involved.

•I've tried the early morning calls twice already 😭 Got through once but then they transferred me and I got disconnected.

•Keep trying. It took me 4 attempts before I got someone who actually helped. The early morning is still your best bet.

I hate to say it but ny unemployment has ZERO sense of urgency for anyone's situation. I was literally about to be evicted and they still made me wait the full time for backpay (5 weeks in my case). The docusigns came randomly on a Sunday morning at like 6am lol.

Look at your spam folder!!! Mine went to spam and I didn't notice for 2 weeks! Check every folder including promotions if you use gmail.

The whole retroactive payment system is completely messed up right now. I submitted in October and just got my DocuSign last week. They are way behind on processing. Contact your state rep if you're desperate - mine helped push things along after I explained my financial situation.

•How do I find my state rep? Is there a website or something?

•Just google "[your city/area] new york state representative" and you'll find their office contact. Email AND call them. Explain the baby situation.

Here's a comprehensive guide to getting your retroactive payments faster: First, document everything - dates you applied, who you spoke with, confirmation numbers, etc. Having this info ready when you do reach someone saves time. Call using multiple methods. The main line is usualy overwhelmed, but regional offices sometimes have better luck. Calling early morning (7:59am) or late afternoon (3:45pm) often works better. If you can't get through by phone, try claimyr.com - it's a service that will wait on hold and call you when they reach an agent. This saved me days of frustration. Once you reach someone, calmly explain your situation with the baby coming and limited work hours. Ask specifically if there's a hardship exception or if they can flag your account for expedited processing. If all else fails, contact your state representative's office. They have liaisons who can sometimes cut through red tape faster than you can alone. Good luck, and I hope you get your DocuSign soon! The system is frustrating but persistence usually pays off eventually.

•Yes it worked for me when I was at my wits end trying to reach someone. Just google reviews if you're skeptical.

•The state rep route is underrated. My assembly person's office got my issue fixed in 48 hours after I struggled for weeks.

I'm bout to be in the same boat. Applied for back pay last week. The lady on the phone told me it could take up to 6-8 weeks with the holidays 🤮 this system is a joke fr.

•6-8 weeks?! That's insane. I'll have a whole newborn by then!

•Ikr, it's ridiculous. They act like our bills can wait that long.

Congrats on the baby! 👶 For my retroactive payment I waited exactly 31 days from application to DocuSign. Signed it immediately and got paid 3 days later. Seems like the wait time is around 4-5 weeks now with no way to expedite unless you get lucky with who you talk to.

have u checked if ur claim says "pending backdate request" on the website?? if it doesn't, sometimes that means they're not even processing it yet and you should call ASAP

Adrian Hughes
•Where would I see that? I looked all over my account and don't see any status for the backdate request

•It should be visible when you login to your account and look at your claim status. If you don't see anything about backdate then def call them.

If you're having a baby they SHOULD expedite it but good luck getting ahold of someone to explain your situation. The regular phone line is useless. Try the TTY line even if you don't need TTY services - they answer faster and can help with regular claims. I got my stuff handled in half the time that way.

•is that allowed? using TTY if you don't need it?

•Technically probably not but when the system is this broken sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do 🤷♀️

Almost NOBODY gets their DocuSign in 3 weeks anymore. The days of quick processing are over since the pandemic. I'm really sorry you're having to deal with this while expecting a baby. My suggestion? Contact local news if you're comfortable with it. Seriously. I've seen them help people in dire situations get expedited.

omg i just went through this exact thing!!! had my baby in november and was waiting on backpay forever. what finally worked was emailing the commissioner's office directly. i sent a polite but desperate email explaining my situation with the newborn and financial hardship and got my docusign 2 days later. try: labor.sm.commissioner@labor.ny.gov

•It worked for me! I think the key is having a genuinely urgent situation (like newborn + holidays) and being super polite in your email.

I got tired of waiting and used claimyr.com to reach someone. They got me on the phone with an agent who manually pushed through my DocuSign request. Best decision ever - had my docs the next day.

i feel ur pain so much. I submitted in August and didn't get docusign till October. Called 40+ times. System is completely broken. Only thing that worked was having my assemblyman's office intervene. They have special contacts at DOL.
