Anyone know how long NY unemployment tourism recovery funds take to arrive after signing forms?

I completed and submitted the DocuSign forms for the tourism recovery program about 3 weeks ago and still haven't received any payment. My claim was approved back in November, and after waiting over 4 months, I finally got the DocuSign forms in early April. The email said payment would be processed "shortly after" completing the forms, but it's been almost a month now with nothing. My bank account info is definitely correct - I double checked everything before submitting. Has anyone else gone through this process recently? How long did it take for your payment to arrive after completing the forms? I've tried calling their office five times this week but I either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours before having to hang up. Starting to get worried since I really need these funds.

I'm on month 2 of waiting after signing those forms. Called like 20 times, finally spoke to someone who just said "it's in process" and couldn't give me any timeline. The whole tourism recovery thing has been such a nightmare honestly.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! Did they at least confirm that your forms were received properly? I'm starting to wonder if mine even went through correctly.

Yeah they confirmed receipt. Said something about a "processing backlog" but couldn't tell me where in the queue I was. Total BS if you ask me.

same boat. my cousin works for the state (not unemployment) and he says they're beyond understaffed right now. doesn't make it any better tho 🤮

I was stuck in this exact situation last month. Tried calling for days with no luck - always got disconnected or was on hold forever. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an actual NY unemployment rep in about 45 minutes. Talking to an agent got my funds released right away - turns out there was some stupid flag on my account they needed to remove. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent and worth every penny to finally get my tourism recovery payment. Check out their explainer video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Is this actually real? Sounds like one of those too-good-to-be-true scams tbh 🤔

I was skeptical too but I was desperate after waiting for so long. It actually worked for me - they basically just automate the calling and hold process then connect you when a real person answers. Saved me from having to redial for days.

just checked out their site. interesting. how much did it set you back? was it worth it?

Honestly it was the best money I've spent in this whole mess. Getting an actual human on the phone who could look at my account and fix the issue was priceless after months of stress and waiting.

i used this too! had my funds in 2 days after talking to someone. before that I was waiting for like 7 weeks after signing those stupid forms.

took me exactly 34 days from docusign to payment hitting my account. no rhyme or reason to their system from what i can tell. hang in there!

The tourism recovery program has been a total disaster. My friend got her money in 1 week, I waited 2 months, and my other colleague is still waiting after signing in February! There's literally no pattern. Calling is your best bet but good luck getting through to anyone. The whole system is broken beyond belief.

That's crazy! Did your friend do anything specific to get hers so fast? I wonder if there's any rhyme or reason to the order they process these.

nope! she just got lucky I guess. we both applied the same week and she got paid in 8 days while I waited 58 days. makes NO sense.

Here's what I know from going through this hellish process and FINALLY getting my payment this week: The tourism recovery program is seriously backlogged. They've been hit with way more applications than they expected after the tourism industry took such a massive hit. Many people are waiting 4-8 weeks after signing the DocuSign forms. What worked for me: 1) I managed to get through to someone by calling exactly at 8:00am when they open (took 9 attempts over 3 days) 2) Found out my application had a flag for "verification needed" but nobody had contacted me about it 3) Had to email additional proof of my tourism industry employment to a specific address they provided 4) Payment arrived 4 days later If you can't get through calling, I've heard good things about claimyr.com - they basically wait on hold for you then connect you when a real person answers. Haven't tried it myself but several people in other threads said it worked when nothing else did. This system is completely overwhelmed right now, but keep being persistent. Good luck!

Thanks for all this detail! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Do you know if there's any way to check if my application has a similar flag?

Unfortunately the only way to know about flags is to actually talk to a rep - there's nothing in the online system that shows it. That's why getting through on the phone is so crucial.

Can confirm about the flags - had the same issue. My DocuSign wasn't properly linked to my case and was just sitting there unprocessed. Total incompetence.

the tourism recovery thing is THE WORST program i've ever dealt with. waited 6 months for approval, another 2 for docusign, then 7 weeks after signing for payment. AND they underpaid me by $3200!!! now i gotta go through this all over again for the rest. absolute nightmare. 😡

I had this same issue with the tourism recovery program and waiting after docusign. The process is stupid slow. BUT I did get my payment finally - took about 5 weeks after signing forms. One thing I noticed is that the payment doesn't show up in your regular unemployment portal - it comes separately and without notification. Have you checked your bank account directly instead of just the NY unemployment website?

Yeah I've been checking my actual bank account daily. Nothing yet. Good to know it doesn't show in the portal though!

just wanna put this out there - they are REALLLLLY strict about the tourism industry verification. i got denied after waiting for 3 months because they said my job wasnt tourism enough even though I worked at a hotel 🙄 make sure u have tons of documentation ready if they question your eligibility

Just got my payment yesterday - exactly 42 days after signing docusign. No call, no email, no update online - money just showed up. The NY unemployment tourism recovery program is operating in its own dimension of time and space apparently.

Different departments handle different steps of the tourism recovery program. The DocuSign team is separate from the payment processing team. After your forms are verified, they get forwarded to the payment team which is where most people get stuck waiting. Source: my sister works for the state and explained why it's such a mess. They're using outdated systems that weren't designed for special programs like this.

Rhett Bowman

•

That actually makes a lot of sense. Did your sister have any insight on how long the payment team typically takes to process once they get the forms?

Lourdes Fox

•

She said 2-6 weeks is the current average but it varies wildly depending on workload and staffing. Some days they process hundreds, other days almost none if they're dealing with system issues.

For me: applied in October, approved in December, DocuSign in February, money in April. Four months total and about 7 weeks after signing. The entire tourism recovery program is running on government time squared. But it did eventually come through.

IMPORTANT TIP: If you call, DO NOT listen to the recording that says they'll call you back. That callback system is completely broken for the tourism recovery program. I waited 3 weeks for a callback that never came. You need to stay on the line no matter how long it takes. I know it sucks but that's the only way to actually reach someone. Or try that claimyr.com service someone mentioned above - seems to work for getting through the phone maze.

Ugh good to know. I've been hanging up when it offers the callback. I'll try to stay on the line tomorrow.

This is exactly why I ended up using Claimyr - I was tired of waiting on hold for hours or getting disconnected. They just handled the waiting for me.

ok i worked at the call center for ny unemployment briefly (quit cuz it was awful) and i can tell you the tourism recovery program is a MESS. the funds came from a different bucket than regular unemployment so it goes through extra steps. docusign forms go to one team, then verification, then payment processing. each handoff adds weeks. if anything is slightly off or needs verification, it goes to the back of the queue. best advice: call and specifically ask if your docusign was received properly and if there are ANY flags or holds.

This is incredibly helpful insider info! Thank you so much. I'll definitely call and ask about flags specifically.

np! one more tip: if you get a rep who seems clueless (many are new), politely ask to speak with a tier 2 specialist. they have more access and training on the tourism program specifically.
