SDI continued claim forms not arriving after initial payment - stuck in limbo
My disability claim was approved in early January 2025, and I received the first payment after submitting the initial Continued Claim Certification form they sent me. That payment came through on Jan 18th. According to my SDI Online account, it says 'to continue receiving benefits, complete the Continued Claim Certification form' - but it's been over 3 weeks and I haven't received any additional forms! My disability is for another 5 months (back surgery recovery), so I know I should be getting more certification forms. I've called EDD at least 12 times over the past week and either get disconnected or it says 'call volume too high.' Has anyone experienced this certification form delay? Am I supposed to be doing something else to trigger them to send the forms? Getting really worried since bills are piling up and I haven't received any payments since that first one.

Same thing happnd to me last year. The system is broken! Sometimes they dont send the forms when theyre supposed to, you gotta keep calling until you get thru.

•Thanks for responding. Did you eventually get all your back payments once you reached someone? I'm worried they'll say I didn't certify on time even though they never sent me anything to fill out.

This happens because of a system glitch in the SDI certification process. You actually have two options: 1) You can call EDD and request that they manually issue your continued claim forms, or 2) You can log into SDI Online and check if there's an option to request certification forms. Sometimes under the "Forms" section, you'll see a link to request paper forms. The system should be sending these automatically every two weeks, so something definitely went wrong with your claim.

•Thank you! I looked all over SDI Online but don't see any option to request forms. I guess I need to keep trying to call. It's so frustrating that they tell you to certify but don't give you a way to do it.

Have you tried searching your mail thoroughly? Sometimes the forms come in very plain envelopes that look like junk mail. My neighbor almost threw hers away thinking it was some random government notice. Also check your spam folder if they do electronic notifications.

•I've been checking the mail obsessively and haven't seen anything that could be from EDD. I don't think they do email notifications for the paper forms but I'll double check my spam folder just in case. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had this EXACT same issue in February. After weeks of failing to get through on the phone, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connected me to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent told me there was a "flag" on my account that was preventing the certification forms from being sent out automatically. They fixed it right there and even processed my backdated certifications so I got paid for all the missed weeks. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

•Yes, it absolutely worked for me. I was skeptical too, but after wasting hours trying to get through on my own, it was worth it. The agent told me that sometimes the system requires manual intervention to restart the certification form mailings.

The EDD is absolutely TERRIBLE at sending those continuation forms!!! I had a 6-month disability claim last year and had to call EVERY TIME to get my forms sent. It's like they DELIBERATELY make it hard to get your money!! The system is DESIGNED to frustrate you into giving up. I'm still bitter about it lol.

•Totally agree! My sister works in healthcare and says TONS of her patients have this exact problem with SDI. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing over there.

There might be a misunderstanding about how the process works. For SDI claims in 2025, EDD is supposed to mail the DE 2500A Continued Claim Certification form automatically every two weeks after your first payment. However, if you don't receive it within 10 days of your last payment date, you're supposed to call the SDI office to request a new form. This is actually stated in the fine print on the initial award letter. In your SDI Online account, check under "Claim Information" for the next scheduled certification date. If that date has passed and you haven't received a form, there's definitely an issue with your account that needs manual correction. Keep trying to reach an agent as they'll need to release the forms and may need to fix a flag or technical issue on your account.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation. I just checked my account again and you're right - there is a "next certification date" that passed 2 weeks ago. I didn't notice that before. I'm going to keep trying to reach someone to fix this.

my doctor had to keep submitting updated medical information for me during my disability claim last year so maybe check if theres something ur doctor needs to update?

•That's only required for extensions beyond the initial disability period or for claims exceeding 52 weeks. For a standard recovery period like OP's back surgery, the doctor's initial certification should cover the entire estimated recovery time. The issue here is clearly with the certification forms not being sent, not with the medical documentation.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD! It took three more days of calling (starting at exactly 8:00am when they open), but I finally reached a representative. She said there was a "system flag" on my account that was preventing the continued claim forms from being generated automatically. Apparently this happens quite often with claims approved at the beginning of the year due to some annual system updates they do. She manually released the forms for all the weeks I've missed, and said I should receive them within 5-7 business days. She also made a note to ensure future forms will be sent automatically. The best part is she said once I send back those completed forms, I'll receive payment for all missed weeks in one lump sum! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions!

•Great to hear you got it resolved! I've seen this happen to multiple people where the automated system fails to send forms but the claim itself is perfectly valid. Make sure to keep a record of your conversation (rep name, date, reference number if provided) just in case there are any future issues.
