SDI continued claim forms not arriving after initial payment - stuck in limbo

My disability claim was approved in early January 2025, and I received the first payment after submitting the initial Continued Claim Certification form they sent me. That payment came through on Jan 18th. According to my SDI Online account, it says 'to continue receiving benefits, complete the Continued Claim Certification form' - but it's been over 3 weeks and I haven't received any additional forms! My disability is for another 5 months (back surgery recovery), so I know I should be getting more certification forms. I've called EDD at least 12 times over the past week and either get disconnected or it says 'call volume too high.' Has anyone experienced this certification form delay? Am I supposed to be doing something else to trigger them to send the forms? Getting really worried since bills are piling up and I haven't received any payments since that first one.

Same thing happnd to me last year. The system is broken! Sometimes they dont send the forms when theyre supposed to, you gotta keep calling until you get thru.

Thanks for responding. Did you eventually get all your back payments once you reached someone? I'm worried they'll say I didn't certify on time even though they never sent me anything to fill out.

This happens because of a system glitch in the SDI certification process. You actually have two options: 1) You can call EDD and request that they manually issue your continued claim forms, or 2) You can log into SDI Online and check if there's an option to request certification forms. Sometimes under the "Forms" section, you'll see a link to request paper forms. The system should be sending these automatically every two weeks, so something definitely went wrong with your claim.

Thank you! I looked all over SDI Online but don't see any option to request forms. I guess I need to keep trying to call. It's so frustrating that they tell you to certify but don't give you a way to do it.

Have you tried searching your mail thoroughly? Sometimes the forms come in very plain envelopes that look like junk mail. My neighbor almost threw hers away thinking it was some random government notice. Also check your spam folder if they do electronic notifications.

I've been checking the mail obsessively and haven't seen anything that could be from EDD. I don't think they do email notifications for the paper forms but I'll double check my spam folder just in case. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had this EXACT same issue in February. After weeks of failing to get through on the phone, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connected me to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent told me there was a "flag" on my account that was preventing the certification forms from being sent out automatically. They fixed it right there and even processed my backdated certifications so I got paid for all the missed weeks. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

does that actually work?? ive been trying to get thru to EDD for 2 WEEKS!!

Yes, it absolutely worked for me. I was skeptical too, but after wasting hours trying to get through on my own, it was worth it. The agent told me that sometimes the system requires manual intervention to restart the certification form mailings.

The EDD is absolutely TERRIBLE at sending those continuation forms!!! I had a 6-month disability claim last year and had to call EVERY TIME to get my forms sent. It's like they DELIBERATELY make it hard to get your money!! The system is DESIGNED to frustrate you into giving up. I'm still bitter about it lol.

Totally agree! My sister works in healthcare and says TONS of her patients have this exact problem with SDI. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing over there.

There might be a misunderstanding about how the process works. For SDI claims in 2025, EDD is supposed to mail the DE 2500A Continued Claim Certification form automatically every two weeks after your first payment. However, if you don't receive it within 10 days of your last payment date, you're supposed to call the SDI office to request a new form. This is actually stated in the fine print on the initial award letter. In your SDI Online account, check under "Claim Information" for the next scheduled certification date. If that date has passed and you haven't received a form, there's definitely an issue with your account that needs manual correction. Keep trying to reach an agent as they'll need to release the forms and may need to fix a flag or technical issue on your account.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I just checked my account again and you're right - there is a "next certification date" that passed 2 weeks ago. I didn't notice that before. I'm going to keep trying to reach someone to fix this.

my doctor had to keep submitting updated medical information for me during my disability claim last year so maybe check if theres something ur doctor needs to update?

0 coins

That's only required for extensions beyond the initial disability period or for claims exceeding 52 weeks. For a standard recovery period like OP's back surgery, the doctor's initial certification should cover the entire estimated recovery time. The issue here is clearly with the certification forms not being sent, not with the medical documentation.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD! It took three more days of calling (starting at exactly 8:00am when they open), but I finally reached a representative. She said there was a "system flag" on my account that was preventing the continued claim forms from being generated automatically. Apparently this happens quite often with claims approved at the beginning of the year due to some annual system updates they do. She manually released the forms for all the weeks I've missed, and said I should receive them within 5-7 business days. She also made a note to ensure future forms will be sent automatically. The best part is she said once I send back those completed forms, I'll receive payment for all missed weeks in one lump sum! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions!

Great to hear you got it resolved! I've seen this happen to multiple people where the automated system fails to send forms but the claim itself is perfectly valid. Make sure to keep a record of your conversation (rep name, date, reference number if provided) just in case there are any future issues.

So glad you got through and got this resolved! This is exactly the kind of issue that makes people lose faith in the system - when you're doing everything right but there's a technical glitch preventing you from getting your benefits. Your experience will definitely help others who run into this same problem. The "system flag" explanation makes sense given how many people seem to have this exact issue with SDI claims approved in early 2025. Thanks for posting the update!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm new to this community and currently going through the SDI application process myself. Reading about everyone's experiences, especially the resolution with the "system flag" issue, gives me hope that these problems can be fixed even when the automated system fails. It's reassuring to know there are knowledgeable people here who understand the process and can offer real solutions. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it's exactly what newcomers like me need to see!

I'm so relieved to see this thread and especially your successful resolution! I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - got my first SDI payment in late January for a knee surgery recovery, but haven't received any certification forms since then. I've been panicking thinking I missed something or did something wrong. Reading about the "system flag" issue makes so much sense, and knowing that calling at exactly 8am worked for you gives me a concrete strategy to try. It's frustrating that this seems to be such a common problem, especially for claims approved early in the year, but at least now I know what to ask for when I finally get through to someone. Thanks for taking the time to update us on your resolution - it's incredibly helpful for those of us still stuck in the same situation!

I'm in the exact same boat! Just joined this community because I'm dealing with this exact issue - approved for SDI in early February after a shoulder surgery, got my first payment, but no certification forms since then. Reading through this thread has been so helpful, especially knowing about the "system flag" problem that seems to affect early 2025 claims. I've been calling EDD for days with no luck, but I'm definitely going to try the 8am strategy that worked for Ryder. It's such a relief to find others who've gone through this and gotten it resolved. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences - as a newcomer to both SDI and this community, it's exactly the kind of real-world advice I needed to see!

Welcome to everyone who's new to this community! As someone who's been dealing with California EDD issues for a while, I want to emphasize how valuable threads like this are. The "system flag" problem that Ryder experienced is unfortunately very common, especially with the system updates EDD does at the beginning of each year. For anyone still struggling to get through by phone, here are a few additional tips: 1) Try calling on different days of the week - Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to have slightly lower call volume, 2) Have your claim number, SSN, and all relevant dates ready before you call to speed up the process once you do get through, and 3) Don't give up after a few busy signals - persistence really is key with EDD. It's frustrating that we have to work this hard just to access benefits we're entitled to, but knowing the right approach and having community support makes all the difference. Keep sharing your experiences here - it helps everyone!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and those additional tips! As someone completely new to both the SDI process and this community, I can't express how valuable it is to find such detailed, practical advice from people who've actually been through this. The tip about calling on Tuesdays/Wednesdays is something I never would have thought of, and having all my information ready beforehand makes total sense. It's honestly both frustrating and reassuring to learn that these system issues are so common - frustrating because it shouldn't be this hard to access benefits we've paid into, but reassuring because it means I'm not doing anything wrong. Reading through everyone's experiences here has given me so much more confidence about tackling this problem. I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy and will make sure to ask specifically about any "system flags" on my account. Thank you all for creating such a supportive space where people can get real answers!

Just wanted to add my experience as someone new to this community - I went through a very similar situation last year during my maternity leave disability claim. The automated certification system failed for about 6 weeks, and like many others here, I spent countless hours trying to reach EDD. What finally worked for me was persistence with the early morning calling strategy (8:00 AM sharp) and specifically asking the representative to check for "system flags" or "automation holds" on my account. The agent found that my account had been flagged for manual review due to some glitch, and once they cleared it, all my back certifications were processed within a week. It's incredibly frustrating that this seems to be such a widespread issue, especially knowing how much stress it causes when you're already dealing with a disability and depending on these benefits. For anyone still struggling with this, don't give up - the problem is almost always on their system side, not something you did wrong. Document everything (dates you called, reference numbers, agent names if possible) as it can help speed up resolution if you need to escalate later.

Thank you for sharing your experience! As someone brand new to this community and currently navigating my first SDI claim, it's incredibly helpful to hear from people who've successfully resolved this exact issue. Your point about documenting everything is really smart - I hadn't thought about keeping track of reference numbers and agent names, but that makes total sense for follow-up calls. It's both maddening and oddly comforting to see how common this "system flag" problem is across different types of disability claims (back surgery, knee surgery, maternity leave, etc.). Reading all these experiences has given me a much clearer game plan: call at 8am, ask specifically about system flags or automation holds, and don't take "the forms should arrive soon" as an answer. The fact that so many of you have gotten your back pay processed once the issue was identified gives me hope that this will work out. Thanks for creating such a supportive environment for those of us just figuring this all out!

As a newcomer to this community, I want to say how incredibly helpful this entire thread has been! I'm currently in week 3 of waiting for my SDI continuation forms after my first payment (herniated disc recovery), and reading about everyone's experiences - especially the successful resolution with the "system flag" issue - has been such a relief. I was starting to panic thinking I had somehow messed up my claim or missed a deadline. The specific advice about calling at exactly 8:00 AM and asking about "system flags" or "automation holds" gives me a concrete action plan instead of just randomly dialing and hoping. It's frustrating that so many people seem to experience this same glitch, particularly with early 2025 claims, but knowing it's a known system issue rather than user error makes me feel much more confident about getting it resolved. Thank you all for sharing such detailed experiences and creating a space where newcomers can get real, practical advice from people who've actually navigated these challenges successfully!

Welcome to the community! I'm also pretty new here and dealing with my first SDI claim (wrist surgery recovery). Reading through this thread has been such an eye-opener - I had no idea this "system flag" issue was so widespread, especially for early 2025 claims. Like you, I was starting to worry I'd done something wrong when my certification forms stopped coming after the first payment. The detailed experiences everyone has shared here, from the specific calling strategies to knowing exactly what to ask EDD representatives, has been invaluable. It's given me the confidence to keep pushing for a resolution rather than just waiting and hoping. Thank you for adding your voice to this discussion - it helps knowing there are others of us newcomers going through the exact same situation and that there's a clear path forward based on everyone's successful experiences!
