EDD SDI payment delayed after submitting continuous certification form - stuck in 'pending' status

I've been on disability since January 5th for a herniated disc injury, and I've been getting my bi-weekly payments without any issues for the first month. However, after I submitted my continuous certification form (DE 2500A) two weeks ago, my payment status has been stuck on 'pending' in the SDI Online portal. I called EDD at least 15 times but can't get through to a human being - just the automated system telling me my claim is 'being processed.' My doctor confirmed he submitted all the required medical documentation. My bills are piling up, and rent is due next week. This is beyond frustrating! Has anyone else experienced a payment delay after submitting a continuous certification? How long did it take to resolve, and what did you do to get it moving?

This happened to me twice during my disability claim last year. The first time, my continuous cert got hung up because my doctor used slightly different wording on the second form compared to the initial certification. The second time, it was just EDD being slow because of high volume. It took about 10-12 days each time before the payment finally processed. Check your SDI Online account for any messages or alerts. Sometimes they'll add a note if they need additional information but don't actually contact you about it. Also make sure the dates on your continuous cert form match exactly with your previous certification end date - even a one-day gap can cause delays.

Thanks for the info! I checked my account again and don't see any messages or alerts. The dates should match up perfectly since I used the form they mailed me. It's been 14 days now with no movement. Did you just wait it out or did you manage to get through to someone?

I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now!!! Submitted my continuous cert form 3 weeks ago and still nothing. Called 27 times yesterday and either got hung up on or told the wait was over 2 hours. This is RIDICULOUS. I have 3 kids to feed and my landlord is already threatening eviction. How can they just leave people hanging like this??? The entire EDD system is BROKEN and nobody seems to care!!! 😡😡😡

Have you tried messaging them through your SDI Online account? Sometimes they respond to those faster than phone calls. Also double-check that your mailing address is correct in the system - my sister had issues because her payment was sent to her old address even though she updated it online.

Yes, sent 3 messages through the portal. No response to any of them. My address is definitely correct because I've received mail from them before. This is just INEXCUSABLE!!

I actually used a service called Claimyr to get through to an EDD rep after facing the same issue with my continuous certification. You can check out how it works at claimyr.com or see their demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. They connected me with an EDD disability agent within about 25 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. The agent told me my payment was delayed because there was a system flag for "overlapping benefits" even though I wasn't receiving any other benefits. They cleared it on the spot and my payment processed the next day. Sometimes there are these weird system issues that only a rep can fix.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of that service before. Did you have to share a lot of personal information with them? I'm desperate to get this resolved but also cautious about my info.

They just need your phone number to connect the call. They don't ask for any of your EDD account info or social security number or anything like that. The actual conversation with EDD happens directly between you and the EDD agent.

As someone who worked in disability case management, here's what's likely happening: After your initial certification period, continuous certifications go through an additional review process, especially if your disability is for something that typically has a variable recovery time (like a herniated disc). The best approach is to: 1. Continue checking your SDI Online account daily for any notices or requests for additional information 2. Make sure your doctor's office submitted the continuous certification with identical diagnosis codes as the original 3. If possible, have your doctor's office call the EDD Medical Provider line (different from the claimant line) to verify receipt of all documentation 4. Document all your contact attempts with dates and times For most claims with continuous certification delays, payments resume within 21 days as long as all documentation is properly submitted. If you hit day 21 with no resolution, that's when you might want to consider contacting your state representative's office, as they often have liaison channels to EDD.

This is really helpful, thank you! I hadn't thought about having my doctor call their medical provider line. I'll ask about that at my appointment tomorrow. If I hit the 21-day mark with no resolution, I'll definitely contact my state rep's office. Really appreciate the detailed advice!

When I was on disability last summer, I had a similar issue after submitting my second continuous certification. What finally worked was sending a message through the SDI Online portal specifically mentioning "payment delay after continuous certification" in the subject line. I got a response within 48 hours saying there was a system flag for review that needed to be manually cleared. Worth trying if you haven't yet! Also, make sure you're checking both the "Messages" tab AND the "Contact Us" response section in your portal. Sometimes they respond in one place but not the other.

Great tip about the subject line - I'll try that exact wording. And I didn't realize there were two different places to check for messages. I'll look at both sections now. Thank you!

Any update on your situation? Did you manage to get it resolved?

Yes! I finally got through to someone at EDD yesterday using the Claimyr service that was mentioned above. Turns out there was a "system review flag" on my account because my doctor used a slightly different ICD code on the continuous certification (he included an additional digit for more specificity). The representative removed the flag and manually processed my payment. The money should be on my card within 24-48 hours. Such a relief! Thank you all for your suggestions and support.
