EDD SDI payment delay after certification - should I be worried?
I certified for my disability benefits on April 15th, 2025 and received a confirmation email saying it was submitted successfully. I can see it listed under my 'completed forms' in SDI Online, but when I look at my payment history page, there's nothing there except my first payment from March (which came after my 7-day waiting period). No pending payment, no processing status - nothing at all for the April 15th certification. It's been 8 days now and I'm getting anxious since I have bills due next week. Is this normal? Should the system at least show something as 'pending' or 'in process' by now? My doctor submitted all the necessary medical certification forms before my initial claim was approved. Not sure if I should keep waiting or if something's wrong with my claim.

This happens sometimes with the SDI system. There can be a lag between when you certify and when it shows up in your payment history. I'd give it a few more days before panicking. Usually, certifications take 10-14 business days to process during busy periods. If nothing shows up by next Monday, then you should contact EDD to see what's going on.

•Thanks for the reassurance! I'm just worried because my first certification payment came through within 5 days. Do you know if there's a way to check if they received my certification other than the confirmation email?

•Three weeks is actually abnormal these days. Since the system upgrades in late 2024, most certification payments should process within 7-10 business days maximum unless there's a specific issue with your claim. @OP if you don't see anything by the end of next week, definitely call EDD to check on the status.

My sister had this happen with her pregnancy disability claim last month. She was freaking out too. It randomly appeared in her account after like 9 days with no warning or status change.

This is NOT normal and you shouldn't just sit around waiting!!! EDD is notorious for "losing" certifications even when their system says you completed them. I've had THREE certifications mysteriously disappear from their system during my current claim. You need to CALL THEM ASAP and verify they actually received your certification. Don't trust their broken online system!

•Oh no, that's really concerning! I've been trying to call but can't get through. I've been on hold for over an hour twice and then got disconnected both times. Is there a better number or time to call?

I went through this exact situation in February. The problem is that EDD's system doesn't always update the payment history section in real-time. Here's what you need to know: 1. If you received a confirmation for your certification, it's most likely in their system 2. The standard processing time is 7-10 business days right now 3. The first payment often processes faster than subsequent ones because they've already verified your initial eligibility 4. If you're approaching day 10 with no update, that's when you should contact EDD You can also check if your certification was received by looking in the "Forms" section of your SDI Online account, not just the payment history page. There should be a section showing submitted forms with dates.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I checked the Forms section and it does show my certification as submitted on 4/15. That's a relief. I'll give it until next Monday (which would be day 10) before I panic. Really appreciate the help!

Have you checked your bank account directly? Sometimes my payments would hit my account before the EDD website even updated the payment status! Happened to me twice last year on my disability claim.

•That's a good idea! Just checked my bank account but nothing there yet. At least I know to keep an eye on both places now. Thanks!

wait did your doctor send in a new medical certification form for this period? sometimes they need that for continued payments depending on your condition

•My doctor certified me for 3 months total, and I'm only in month 2, so I don't think that's the issue. The initial certification should cover this period too.

•You're correct. If your doctor certified you for 3 months, you wouldn't need a new medical certification for this payment period. This is most likely just a processing delay.

I had my gallbladder removed in January and was on SDI for 6 weeks and omg the payment timing was so random! First one came fast, second one took forever, third one was somewhere in between. The EDD website is from like 1997 I swear. My cousin works at the EDD office (not disability tho) and she says they're STILL dealing with backlogs from the pandemic if you can believe it. Anyway hope you get paid soon!

If you need to reach an EDD representative (which I recommend if nothing shows up by day 10), try using Claimyr. It's a service that helps you skip the EDD phone queue and connects you directly with an agent. I used it last month when my certification was stuck in pending for 2 weeks. Their system called EDD for me and I was talking to a real person in about 15 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me a ton of stress!

•Thank you for the recommendation! I hadn't heard of this service before. If I don't see any movement on my claim by Monday, I'll definitely look into using Claimyr. The thought of spending hours on hold again makes me want to cry.

•Does this actually work? I'm skeptical about these third-party services...

•It worked for me. They basically just keep calling EDD for you using their system until they get through, then connect you. Saved me from having to sit on hold for hours or keep redialing.

One thing to check - does your claim have an end date coming up soon? Sometimes if you're nearing the end of your claim period, there can be extra verification steps that slow things down. Also, did you happen to certify on a holiday or weekend? That can sometimes delay processing too.

•My claim end date isn't until June 20th, so that shouldn't be the issue. And April 15th was a Tuesday, so not a weekend or holiday. I'm thinking it's just a normal processing delay based on what everyone here is saying. It's frustrating, but I'll try to be patient for a few more days.

Just another thought - have you checked your EDD inbox for any messages? Sometimes they send requests for additional information but DON'T notify you by email or text! I missed one of these messages for TWO WEEKS and it completely delayed my payment. Check your SDI Online inbox now!

•Just checked my inbox and there's nothing there except the original claim approval from March. Thank you for the suggestion though - that's definitely something I wouldn't have thought to check!
