EDD SDI payment delays after approval - weekly benefit amount shows but no payment date
I'm at my wits' end with this EDD disability claim! My doctor submitted all the certification paperwork on April 2, 2025, and I can see in my SDI Online account that the claim was processed with a weekly benefit amount of $1,450 showing. It has my correct claim start date (March 26th) and everything SEEMS to be in order, but there's still no payment date showing after 12 days. My rent is due next week and I'm getting really nervous. The claim status just says 'active' but nothing about when I'll actually get paid. Has anyone experienced this delay between approval and actual payment? I've tried calling about 30 times in the last week but either get disconnected or sit on hold until the office closes. My doctor confirmed they haven't received any additional information requests. Is this normal or should I be worried something is wrong with my claim?

This happened to me in January! Don't panic yet. For my SDI claim, there was about a 14-day gap between when my weekly benefit amount showed up and when the first payment was actually issued. EDD has to verify a few final things in the background, and sometimes they're dealing with a backlog. If your claim status says 'active' and not 'pending' or 'denied,' you're probably fine. You can also check if there are any outstanding forms or certifications needed by clicking on the 'Forms and Certifications' tab in SDI Online.

•Thank you! That makes me feel a bit better. I checked the Forms and Certifications tab and there's nothing pending there. Everything is marked as received. Did you do anything special to get your payment processed or did it just happen automatically after those 14 days?

•Seriously?? That's terrible! Did your brother ever figure out why there was such a delay? I'm going to keep calling but it's so frustrating getting disconnected constantly.

The payment process can take up to 14 business days after the claim shows as active with a benefit amount. However, with high volume periods (which we're in right now during tax season), it can sometimes take a few extra days. A few things to check: 1. Verify your payment method (EDD debit card or direct deposit) is set up correctly 2. Make sure there are no identity verification issues pending 3. Check if there's a message in your SDI Online inbox If you've already waited 12 days and your claim shows 'active', you're likely to receive payment in the next few days. The system often batches payments on specific days of the week.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I didn't realize we were in a high volume period - that makes sense. I double-checked my payment preferences and everything looks correct there. Should I be concerned that I don't have any messages in my SDI Online inbox? I would have thought they'd at least send something confirming the claim was approved.

I had to wait almost three weeks from when my benefit amount showed up to when I got paid! And then after that first payment, everything was super regular - every two weeks like clockwork. It's just that first payment that takes forever for some reason. I think they do some extra verification steps on the first payment that they don't tell us about.

•Three weeks is so long when bills are due! Did you ever find out what the extra verification was? I'm glad to hear the payments became regular after that first one though - that's reassuring.

Have u tried calling the automated phone num? Sometimes u can get payment info there that doesnt show online yet. Also check ur mail cuz sometimes they send letters instead of online messages. happened to my coworker and she almost missed it

•Good point! I didn't think about checking the mail. I've been so focused on the online portal. I'll try the automated line too - what's the number for that one? Is it different from the main EDD number?

After hitting a similar wall with my SDI claim last month, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was a game-changer. They got me connected to an EDD representative in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The rep explained that my payment was delayed because of a system flag that needed manual review - something I never would have known otherwise. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. Totally worth it to get actual answers instead of just waiting and worrying.

•I've never heard of this service before! That sounds incredibly helpful. At this point I'm desperate to talk to an actual person. I'll check out their video and probably give them a try tomorrow if I don't see any payment updates by then. Thanks for sharing this!

ok so heres the thing - u said ur benefit amount is $1450/week? thats actually rly high for SDI (congrats lol) and sometimes the higher amounts trigger additional review. my sister-in-law had this happen and they literally just wanted to double-check her wage history was correct. took like 2.5 weeks after approval before she got paid. u should get retroactive payments for all weeks since ur claim start date tho

•That's interesting about the higher amount possibly triggering a review. I'm a software developer so my wages are pretty high - maybe that's part of it? And yes, I was told I'd get retroactive payments back to my claim start date minus the 7-day waiting period. I just wish they'd communicate better about the status!

Just to clarify on payment timing: The benefit amount appearing means your claim is approved, but the actual payment processing cycle is separate. EDD typically runs payment batches on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. If your claim was approved after a batch ran, you'll need to wait for the next cycle. Also, the first payment often includes extra verification steps that subsequent payments don't require. If your benefit amount is showing correctly and your status is active, it's extremely rare for an approved claim not to be paid - it's almost always just a timing issue with the payment cycles.

•This is super helpful information! Today is Wednesday, so based on what you're saying, maybe I'll see something happen tomorrow with the Thursday batch. I'll try to be patient for a couple more days. Thanks for explaining how the payment cycles work - I had no idea.

Any updates? Did you try calling again or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned? I'm curious if you got through to anyone or if the payment started processing on its own.

•Yes! I used Claimyr this morning and got connected to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. Turns out there was a flag on my account because my employer submitted wage information that didn't exactly match what I reported (the difference was a bonus payment). The rep cleared it up right away and said my payment should process in tonight's batch. Such a relief! Worth every penny to finally get answers instead of just stressing.
