EDD disability extension payment delays despite doctor submitting supplemental certification - no questionnaire appearing
I'm so stressed out about my disability payments right now. My original disability claim ended in mid-January, then my doctor extended it twice - first for 10 days, then for another 5 weeks due to complications. The first short extension went through fine and I got paid without issues. But now with this longer extension, I'm hitting a wall. My EDD account shows the updated end date reflecting the 5-week extension, and I called my doctor's office yesterday to double-check. They confirmed they submitted AND got confirmation that EDD received the supplemental certification form. But I haven't received ANY payments for almost 3 weeks now! What's really confusing me is that I never got any questionnaire in my EDD online account asking me to confirm I'm still disabled/not working like I did with my initial claim. Is that normal with extensions? Should I be looking for something specific? I've tried calling EDD about 25 times but can't get through to anyone. My rent is due next week and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone dealt with payment delays on disability extensions? What am I missing here??

•Thanks for replying! So there WAS a certification needed even though nothing showed up in your account? That's so frustrating! Did you have to keep calling until someone answered, or did they eventually send you something to fill out?

Extensions can be tricky with EDD SDI. The system sometimes has a lag between when they update your claim end date and when they actually process payments. Here's what you need to know: 1. The supplemental certification from your doctor establishes your ELIGIBILITY for the extension, but doesn't automatically trigger payments 2. You should have received a DE 2593S form (Supplemental Claim Certification) either by mail or in your online inbox 3. If it's been 2.5 weeks with no payment, there's definitely a processing issue Call EDD first thing Monday morning at 8:00am - that's when the wait times are shortest. Ask specifically about the status of your DE 2593S form and whether there's a certification needed from you that isn't showing in your online account.

•I disagree with some of this. The supplemental certification DOES trigger payments as long as no questionnaire is required. I've been on disability 3 times and only got questionnaires for the initial claim, never for extensions. Something else is causing the delay - probably typical EDD incompetence!!!

you probably need to do a certification but their stupid system didnt send it to you!! this EXACT thing happened to me last year and i wasted 3 weeks trying to figure it out before i got thru to someone. try using claimyr.com to reach an EDD agent quickly. they got me connected in 20 mins when i couldnt get thru for DAYS on my own. they have a video demo here https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. not free but worth every penny when your rent is due and EDD is holding your $$$

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did you have to give them a bunch of personal info? I'm desperate but also cautious about sharing my details with random services.

•nah, they just call EDD and connect you directly to an agent. you talk to EDD yourself so no personal info goes to the service itself. i was skeptical too but when i couldnt pay my electric bill i got desperate. the EDD agent i talked to fixed my claim in literally 5 minutes once i finally got through

This is a very common issue with extension payments, and there are several possibilities for what's happening in your case: 1. System lag - Sometimes there's a disconnect between the claim end date showing in your account and the payment processing system 2. Missing certification - Even though your doctor submitted their form, there may be an additional certification required from you that isn't appearing in your online account due to a technical issue 3. Pending review - Longer extensions sometimes trigger a manual review, especially if your diagnosis or circumstances have changed 4. Payment threshold - If your extension crosses a quarter boundary (Jan-Mar to Apr-Jun), this can cause payment delays while benefit amounts recalculate The most efficient solution is to speak directly with an EDD representative. Call 1-800-480-3287 at exactly 8:00am or try again at 1:00pm when their lunch rush ends. Be prepared with your claim ID, doctor's name and certification date, and dates of your extension. Request that they check for any pending forms or certifications not visible in your online account.

•Quarter boundary issues are THE WORST!! When my disability crossed from Dec 2024 to Jan 2025 EDD somehow lost half my wages from my base period and my payments got cut in half. Took 6 weeks and like 100 phone calls to fix!!! The whole system is designed to make us give up i swear

My cousin works for EDD (not disability but unemployment) and she says their computer systems don't talk to each other properly. So the doctor's system shows they received the certification but the payment system might not know about it yet. Have you checked your actual physical mail? Sometimes they send forms through regular mail even when you're signed up for electronic notices. EDD is still stuck in 1995 with some of their processes lol

•I've been checking my mail obsessively! Nothing from EDD at all since the approval of my initial extension. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow. Do you know if your cousin has heard anything about how long these payment delays typically last?

•She says anywhere from 3-6 weeks if you don't call and get it fixed manually! Def keep trying to call. The phone system is designed to discourage people from getting through (her words not mine!) - try calling right at 8am or right after lunch around 1pm

I had something like this happen with my pregnancy disability claim last month. Try checking if there's an "unresolved issue" on your claim that's not showing up in the online portal. For me, they needed proof of my identity for some reason AGAIN even though I'd already provided it for the initial claim. The annoying part was that nothing showed up in my account to tell me this - I only found out after finally getting through to someone on the phone.

Update: I FINALLY got through to EDD this morning! Turns out there WAS a certification form that should have been mailed to me but never was (and didn't show up in my online account either). The representative manually processed it while I was on the phone. She said payments should resume within 3-5 business days. For anyone dealing with something similar - KEEP CALLING! The rep told me there's a known issue with their system not always generating the proper notices for extensions, especially when there are multiple extensions on one claim. Such a relief to have this resolved finally!

•That's excellent news! I'm glad you were able to get through and resolve the issue. This is exactly why speaking directly with a representative is so important - they can see and fix problems that aren't visible in the online system. Thanks for updating the thread with the solution, as it will help others experiencing similar issues with disability extensions.
