EDD SDI payment delays since September - no updates showing as 'final payment'
I've been on disability since July due to back surgery complications and my last SDI payment was dated 9/27. It's been almost 3 weeks now with nothing showing up in my account. My benefit statement doesn't say anywhere that it was my final payment, and my doctor certified me through November 15th. I've been calling EDD non-stop for the past 3 days (must've called 50+ times) but either get disconnected or hear that they're experiencing 'high call volume.' Has anyone else experienced unexpected delays in their SDI payments recently? My rent is due in a week and I'm seriously starting to panic. Should I be submitting some form I don't know about?

This exact thing happened to me last month! My payments just suddenly stopped even though my doctor had certified me for another 6 weeks. Turns out EDD had flagged my account for a random quarterly review. They never notified me - I only found out after finally reaching an agent. Check your EDD inbox on the SDI Online portal to see if they sent you any messages requesting additional information. Sometimes they need updated medical documentation but don't make it clear.

•Just checked my SDI Online inbox and there's nothing there! No messages, no requests, nothing indicating any issues with my claim. Did you have to submit anything special to get your payments started again?

•Yes, I've been checking my bank account obsessively every morning. Nothing there either. 😞

The payment system is totally BROKEN right now!! I'm going through the same thing but I'm on pregnancy disability. They stopped my payments after week 6 even though I'm approved for 4 months!!! I filed a complaint and got a generic response that there's a "processing delay" but NO TIMELINE on when it will be fixed. The whole system is designed to make us give up. They hope we'll just go back to work even if we're not medically cleared!!!

•My sister had the same issue with her pregnancy disability claim and it took almost a month to sort out. EDD is definitely overwhelmed right now.

I work with disability claims professionally, and there are a few common reasons for unexpected payment gaps: 1. Your certification period ended and a new one hasn't processed yet 2. There's a gap between your doctor's certifications 3. EDD is reviewing your claim (random or triggered review) 4. There was a system error in processing your payment The most common is #2 - even a 1-day gap between certifications can cause a delay. Check when your doctor last certified and when that certification ends. If your doctor submitted a new certification, it might be in a processing queue. Also, verify your certification hasn't hit the maximum benefit period - standard SDI claims max out at 52 weeks, so if you've been on disability since last year, you might have reached your maximum benefit period.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! My doctor definitely submitted the certification - I watched him do it during my last appointment. And I've only been on disability for 3 months, so I'm nowhere near the 52-week maximum. I'm thinking it must be #3 or #4, but without being able to reach anyone at EDD, I can't figure out which one or what to do about it.

I had to use Claimyr.com to finally reach someone at EDD when I had a similar issue last month. It took me 5 minutes to get through instead of days of calling. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. The EDD agent told me there was a system flag on my account that needed to be manually cleared. Once I got through to someone, they fixed it right away and my payment was processed the next day.

•Did that actually work? I'm suspicious of ANY third-party service claiming to help with EDD... they all seem like scams to me.

•It worked for me. I was desperate after 2 weeks of calling. They basically connect you to an EDD agent through their system. I got through in minutes instead of days of calling.

Sometimes this happens when they're doing a mid-claim review, especially if your claim is longer than 3 months. In my experience, SDI stops payments around the 3-month mark for many people to verify you still need benefits. My doctor had to submit a new medical certification form (DE 2501) even though he had originally certified me for 6 months. EDD didn't tell me this was needed - I only found out after FINALLY getting through to a rep. I'd recommend: 1. Check that your doctor didn't receive any requests for additional info 2. Try reaching an agent early morning (right when they open) or late afternoon (around 4pm) - those times worked best for me 3. If all else fails, contact your state representative's office - they have disability claim liaisons who can often resolve issues quickly

•Thank you for the suggestion about contacting my state rep! I never would have thought of that. I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to check if they received any requests from EDD. The 3-month review timing makes sense - that's exactly where I am in my claim timeline.

I know it's stressful but sometimes EDD payments just randomly pause and then start again. Mine did that twice during my 4-month disability claim. One time it was 2 weeks late and another time almost 3 weeks. Both times there was no explanation and no communication from EDD. The money just showed up eventually. So frustrating!

•That's both reassuring and incredibly frustrating! I hope mine resumes automatically too, but I really need to know when since my bills aren't going to wait. Did you ever find out why it happened in your case?

•Nope! I called probably 30 times, finally got through once, and the rep just said "sometimes there are processing delays" but couldn't give me any specific reason. The whole system is a mystery.

After using that Claimyr service I mentioned, I learned that a lot of payment delays happen because the system flags accounts for "identity verification" randomly. The EDD agent told me they're required to manually verify a certain percentage of all active claims each quarter. When your claim gets selected, payments pause until an agent reviews it. The problem is they don't tell you this is happening!

•That's incredibly helpful information. I'm going to try reaching them again tomorrow, and if I can't get through, I might try that service. Nearly 3 weeks without pay when I'm counting on that money is just not sustainable. I'll update here if I find out what caused the delay in my case.

One more thing to check - log into your SDI Online account and look at your claim summary page. See if your claim status has changed from "Active" to something else. Sometimes it will say "Additional Information Required" or "Pending Review" which gives you a clue about what's happening. In my case, the status had changed but they never notified me about it.

•Just checked again and my claim still shows as "Active" with no indication of any issues. I noticed something though - under the certification history, my doctor's most recent form shows as "Received" but not "Processed" like all the previous ones. Maybe that's related to the delay?

•Yes! That's exactly what happened with mine. The certification status being stuck on "Received" but not "Processed" usually means it's in a review queue. At least now you know where the holdup is. Still frustrating that they don't communicate this clearly!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My SDI payments stopped suddenly in early October after 2 months of regular payments. Like you, my doctor certified me well beyond when the payments stopped, and my claim status still shows "Active" online. I've been trying the early morning calling strategy mentioned by @Ava Thompson - got through once after 45 minutes of calling at 8:02 AM, but the rep just said there was a "processing delay" with no timeline. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with health issues and then have to worry about basic expenses. I'm going to try calling my doctor's office today to see if EDD requested any additional paperwork from them. Fingers crossed we both get this resolved soon!

•@Yara Sabbagh I m'so sorry you re'going through this too! It s'awful how they leave us in the dark when we re'already vulnerable. I m'definitely going to try that early morning calling strategy - 8:02 AM sounds like a good time to catch them. Let me know what your doctor s'office says about any additional paperwork requests. I m'planning to call mine tomorrow too. It really helps to know I m'not the only one dealing with this nightmare right now. Hoping we both get answers soon! 🤞

I'm new to this community but unfortunately dealing with the exact same issue! My SDI payments stopped after my September payment too, even though my doctor certified me through December. What's really frustrating is that I called my doctor's office yesterday and they confirmed they haven't received ANY requests from EDD for additional documentation. The office manager told me this has been happening to a lot of their patients lately - payments just stopping without explanation. She suggested I might need to file an appeal or contact the EDD Disability Appeals Office directly. Has anyone here tried that route? I'm wondering if there's some kind of systematic issue happening right now that's affecting multiple people. The timing can't be a coincidence that so many of us had payments stop around the same time.
