EDD didn't pay after recertification at 10 weeks - still pending after text confirmation?

Just stressed about my disability payments stopping suddenly. I've been on SDI for 10 weeks and got an email saying I needed to recertify. I filled out everything right away since I'm still recovering from my back surgery and nowhere near ready to return to work. EDD sent me a text 10 days ago confirming they got my completed form and said they'd contact me if they needed anything else. But I was supposed to get paid today according to my regular payment schedule and nothing showed up! My doctor says he hasn't received anything from EDD either. Is this normal during recertification? Is my payment just pending or did I miss something? Do I need to do something to push this along? My rent is due next week and I'm starting to panic.

this same thing happened to me last month!!! EDD is THE WORST when it comes to recertification!!!! took them 3 weeks past my normal payment date to finally pay me and i had to call like 50 times before i got through. they never contacted my doctor either even though they said they would. i was almost evicted bc of their stupid delays

Omg that's terrifying. Did they eventually just process it without contacting your doctor? Or did you have to do something special to get it moving?

This is actually pretty normal with EDD SDI recertifications. The system often pauses payments while they process the new certification period. A few things to know: 1) Your doctor might not receive anything new - EDD sometimes just reviews what you submitted 2) The "pending" status can last 7-14 days during recertification periods 3) Make sure you completed the DE 2525XX Continued Claim form (not just the online form) 4) Double check your SDI Online account to see if there are any messages or requests for additional information The text confirmation is a good sign, but if it goes beyond 14 days, you'll definitely want to contact them directly.

Thank you for explaining! I did complete the form online through SDI Online, but now I'm confused - was there a paper form I should have received too? I don't see any messages in my account requesting more info, just the text saying they got my certification.

At exactly the 10-week mark, EDD requires more substantial recertification because that's when they typically reassess longer-term disabilities. The process is different from the regular bi-weekly certifications. What likely happened is your claim is temporarily paused while they process your recertification. The online form is correct, but after 10 weeks they also require your medical provider to submit updated information. Even though your doctor says they haven't received anything, EDD may have sent it electronically or there could be a delay. You should: 1. Call EDD SDI directly to check your claim status (good luck getting through) 2. Ask your doctor's office to check their electronic communications portal for EDD requests 3. Log into your SDI Online account daily to check for any updates or new forms Payments will be retroactive once approved, but that doesn't help with immediate bills.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll check with my doctor again tomorrow. And yeah, the retroactive pay doesn't help with rent that's due next week. I'll try calling EDD tomorrow morning.

Try using Claimyr to get through to EDD on the phone. I was in the same situation last month - recertified at 12 weeks and payments stopped. After trying to call for 3 days with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The agent was able to see that my recertification was received but stuck in their processing queue. They manually moved it forward and my payment was released the next day. Saved me weeks of waiting and stress.

is that service legit?? im always skeptical of these things that sound too good to be true. anyone else use it??

I used it when my PFL claim was stuck in pending. It actually works - they use some system to navigate EDD's phone tree and hold for you, then call you when they get an agent. Saved me from spending hours on hold.

Some additional information about the 10-week recertification that might help others: At 10 weeks of disability, EDD requires more thorough medical verification because this is when they transition you from "short-term" to "longer-term" disability status internally. The requirements are more stringent, and the processing time is typically 10-14 business days even when everything is submitted correctly. Critical points to understand: 1. Your doctor may need to submit a DE 2525XX form with updated medical information 2. Your benefits don't terminate, they're just paused during review 3. All eligible payments will be retroactive once approved 4. The text confirmation means they received your part, but may still be waiting on medical verification If it's been more than 14 business days since recertification, then you should definitely escalate by phone.

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning! The representative said my recertification is still processing and should be completed within 5-7 more business days. She confirmed they DO need additional information from my doctor and sent a request form last week, but it might have gone to the wrong fax number. She resent it while I was on the phone and I called my doctor to give them a heads up. The rep said once they get the doctor's information back, my payments should resume within 48 hours and will include any retroactive amounts. So stressful but at least I know what's happening now!

Glad you got through and figured it out! The wrong fax number issue is unfortunately common. Make sure your doctor's office confirms receipt and submits it quickly. You might want to follow up with both EDD and your doctor in a few days if you don't see movement on your claim status.

I called at exactly 8:00 AM when they opened and kept redialing for about 30 minutes until I got into the queue instead of getting disconnected. Then waited on hold for over an hour. It's exhausting but worth it to finally get answers.

Yes! Payment finally came through yesterday! Doctor submitted the form on Friday and money was in my account Monday morning. They paid everything including the missed payment. Such a relief!
