EDD SDI Certification questionnaire late - payment missed, now what?
Help! I'm in a panic because my disability payments seem to be derailed. I was getting regular payments since my back surgery in January, but yesterday was supposed to be my payment date (the 24th) and nothing hit my account. When I checked the EDD portal I realized there was some kind of certification questionnaire from the 11th that I completely missed filling out (I was in PT all that week and barely checking my computer). I immediately completed it last night when I discovered it, but now I'm worried. Will this delay cause me to lose that payment entirely? How long will it take for them to process the late certification? Has anyone experienced this and can tell me what happens next? I really can't afford to miss this payment with rent coming up next week.

•Thank you! That's a relief to hear. Do you remember approximately how many days it took for them to process your late certification?

This is a common issue with EDD SDI. When you miss a certification deadline, the system automatically holds payment until the certification is processed. Based on my experience handling several late certifications, here's what you can expect: 1. Your payment will be delayed but NOT forfeited 2. Processing time for late certifications is typically 7-10 business days 3. The system will review to ensure you still meet eligibility requirements 4. You may receive a confirmation message in your EDD inbox when processed My suggestion is to be very proactive in checking your portal for any additional questionnaires or messages while waiting for processing. The certification system is designed to verify your continued disability status, so missing one creates a verification gap they need to address.

•Omg 7-10 BUSINESS days?? That's potentially two weeks! Is there any way to speed this up?

The exact same thing happened to my wife after her pregnancy disability claim. We missed one certification because we were sleep deprived with the new baby and COMPLETELY missed the notification. When we finally submitted the late certification, it took them 13 days to process and release payment. It was super stressful but the money did eventually come through. Make sure you don't miss any more certifications! We set up calendar reminders every 2 weeks now.

•Thanks for sharing your experience. 13 days is a long time to wait when bills are due... I'm definitely setting up a reminder system now. Should have done that from the beginning.

OMG dont even get me started on EDD certifications!!!! I swear they DELIBERATELY make these things hard to notice. Like why don't they TEXT us when there's something important to fill out???? Not everyone is checking their EDD account daily!!!!! I missed TWO certifications last year during my disability and had to basically BEG them to process my payments. The system is BROKEN!!!!!

•I agree the notification system could be better, but you actually can sign up for text alerts for SDI. Go to your contact preferences in your account settings and select SMS notifications. They don't advertise this feature well but it's been available since late 2023.

Late certifications are processed in the order they're received, but you can speed things up by calling EDD directly. Waiting for the system to process it automatically can take 7-14 days, but if you get through to a claims specialist, they can often process it while you're on the phone. I had a similar situation last month and spent three days trying to get through on the phone. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent processed my late certification immediately and I had my payment two days later. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Definitely worth it when you need your payment urgently.

Did ur doctor office send in the right paperwork? My bf was on SDI and when his extension was done his doctor sent in wrong form and whole thing got messed up and delayed his payment by like 3 weeks! Make sure ur doctor did their part correctly too.

•That's a good point. His doctor's assistant handled the extension paperwork. I'll double check with their office tomorrow to make sure everything was submitted correctly on their end too.

One additional piece of advice: while you're waiting for the payment to process, document everything. If you call EDD, write down the date, time, representative name, and what they told you. If your payment doesn't arrive within the expected timeframe, this documentation will help you if you need to escalate the issue. Also, if you're concerned about bills coming due, you might want to contact your creditors proactively to explain the situation. Some utility companies and landlords will work with you if you communicate in advance about a temporary delay. It's always better to reach out before a payment is missed than afterward.

•Thank you for this advice. I'll definitely document everything. I just called my landlord to give her a heads up about the potential delay - fortunately she was understanding and said a few days late would be okay as long as I keep her updated.

•Yes! I used the Claimyr service that was recommended and got through to EDD yesterday morning. The representative processed my certification while I was on the phone, and the payment was deposited this morning! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

I'm so relieved to see this had a happy ending! As someone who's been on SDI for chronic pain management, I've definitely had my share of certification anxiety. It's stories like this that remind me why I love this community - everyone jumps in to help with real, actionable advice. The Claimyr tip is gold, and I'm definitely saving that for future reference. •I completely agree! This thread is such a perfect example of what makes this community special. When I first joined after my disability claim started, I was so overwhelmed by the EDD system and all the certification requirements. Seeing how everyone jumped in to help Oliver with specific advice, timelines, and even that Claimyr service recommendation really shows the value of shared experiences. It's one thing to read the official EDD website, but it's another to hear from real people who've actually navigated these exact problems. I'm bookmarking this whole conversation because I have a feeling I'll need to reference it at some point. Thanks to everyone who contributed - this is why I tell other people about this community!

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this, Oliver! I'm dealing with my first SDI claim after a knee replacement and I had no idea these certification questionnaires even existed. Reading through all the advice here has been incredibly valuable - especially about setting up SMS notifications and the Claimyr service. I'm going to go check my account settings right now to make sure I have all notifications turned on. It's so reassuring to see that even when you miss a deadline, there are still ways to get things resolved. This community really is a lifeline for navigating the EDD system!

•You're so welcome, Lucas! I'm really glad my panic-inducing experience could help someone else avoid the same stress. The SMS notifications tip from Felicity was a game-changer - I had no idea that feature existed either. It's crazy how EDD doesn't make these helpful features more obvious. Best of luck with your knee replacement recovery and your SDI claim! Hopefully you won't need the Claimyr service, but it's definitely good to know it's there as a backup option. This community really has been amazing throughout this whole process.

This thread is such a perfect example of why I love this community! Oliver, I'm so glad you got your payment sorted out - what a relief that must have been. I've been on SDI for fibromyalgia for about 8 months now and I've definitely had those moments of panic when something doesn't go as expected with EDD. The advice everyone shared here is gold - especially the SMS notification tip and the Claimyr service recommendation. I had no idea either of those options existed! I'm going to set up those text alerts right now. It's amazing how much stress we could all avoid if EDD just made these helpful features more obvious. Thanks everyone for creating such a supportive space where we can share real solutions to these bureaucratic nightmares!

•Anastasia, I couldn't agree more! This community has been such a lifesaver for navigating all the EDD complexities. I'm actually new here myself and this was one of the first threads I read - what perfect timing! Seeing how everyone rallied around Oliver with such practical, actionable advice really shows what this group is all about. I had no idea about the SMS notifications either, and I just went and enabled them after reading Felicity's tip. It's frustrating how EDD buries these helpful features, but at least we have each other to share these discoveries. The Claimyr service sounds like it could be a real game-changer for those emergency situations. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this such an informative and supportive discussion!

This is exactly why I joined this community! I'm currently on SDI for a shoulder injury and seeing how everyone came together to help Oliver navigate his certification crisis really gives me confidence that I'm in the right place. The practical advice here is so much more valuable than trying to decipher the official EDD website. I had no clue about the SMS notifications feature - just enabled it thanks to Felicity's tip! And that Claimyr service recommendation could be a real lifesaver if I ever find myself in a similar situation. It's incredible how one missed certification can cause so much stress, but it's equally incredible how this community turns that stress into actionable solutions. Oliver, so glad you got your payment resolved quickly! This whole thread is going straight into my bookmarks for future reference.

•Welcome to the community, Zoe! I'm also relatively new here and dealing with my first SDI claim after a car accident. This thread has been such an eye-opener for me too - I had no idea about so many of these features and resources. It's amazing how much collective wisdom exists in this group that you just can't find anywhere else. I immediately went and set up those SMS notifications after reading about them here. The way everyone jumped in to help Oliver shows what a supportive community this really is. I'm definitely keeping the Claimyr service in my back pocket for any future EDD emergencies. It's reassuring to know that even when things go wrong with certifications or payments, there are people here who've been through it and know how to fix it. Looking forward to being part of this community and hopefully being able to help others the way people helped Oliver!

As someone who's been navigating the SDI system for almost two years now due to a spinal condition, I want to echo what everyone has said about this being such a supportive community. Oliver, I'm thrilled that you got your payment resolved so quickly with the Claimyr service! When I first started my claim, I wish I had known about resources like this and the SMS notification feature that Felicity mentioned. I've definitely had my share of EDD-related panic attacks, so I completely understand that feeling when you realize you've missed something important. What I love about this thread is how it shows that even when the system seems designed to trip us up, there are always solutions and people willing to share them. I'm bookmarking this entire conversation because the advice here is pure gold. For anyone new to SDI like some of the folks who commented recently - this community really is a lifeline. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and always remember that you're not alone in dealing with these bureaucratic challenges!

•Luca, thank you for sharing your perspective as someone with longer SDI experience! It's so reassuring to hear from people who've been navigating this system successfully for a while. As a complete newcomer to both SDI and this community, I've been feeling pretty overwhelmed by all the rules and requirements, but reading through this entire thread has been incredibly educational. Oliver's situation really highlighted how easy it is to miss something important, but also how this community rallies together with practical solutions. I had never heard of services like Claimyr or even the SMS notification feature before today. It's fascinating how much institutional knowledge exists here that you just can't find through official channels. I'm definitely going to be more active in this community and hopefully contribute my own experiences as I learn more about the system. Thanks to everyone who makes this such a welcoming and helpful space!
