EDD SDI: Wrong return-to-work date on certification, payments not processing - What to do?
Hey everyone, I messed up on my disability certification and I'm freaking out. I put in the wrong date for when I returned to work. The form asked if I worked during the certification period (which was like a month ago) but I accidentally put my expected return date which is months from now. Now my certification isn't processing and I'm worried about my payments. Has anyone dealt with this before? Also, do I need to keep certifying or will the payments just come automatically until my disability period ends?

I found a way to solve disability certification date error, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtPepQZE838

I had the exact same problem last year! Don't panic, it's fixable. You'll need to speak to someone to get it sorted out though. As for the payments, in my experience, you'll need to keep certifying. They don't just automatically send money (I wish lol).

•Oh man, I was hoping they'd just keep coming automatically. Thanks for the heads up!

•Yeah, EDD never makes anything easy. Always gotta jump through hoops 🙄

•Just keep track of your certifications, and even if it's tedious, it's better to have them filed than missing out on payments.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery!

•@profile 12 Yep, it really works. Saved me hours of frustration. @profile 13 I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved.

•Thanks for the tip! Might give this a try if I can't get through on my own.

•I've heard of Claimyr and it seems to have good feedback, but it would be great if EDD made their service more accessible without third parties.

I swear, dealing with EDD is like playing a game where the rules keep changing and no one tells you. Hang in there, OP. We're all in this hellscape together. 🫠

•True, it's like every time you think you have it figured out, they throw a new curveball at you.

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Put the wrong date and now I'm stuck in EDD limbo. This system is such a cluster****. Good luck, OP. Let us know if you figure it out!

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a nightmare to navigate. I've had similar issues before. Your best bet is to call them ASAP and explain the situation. They should be able to correct it for you.

•Thanks for the advice. I've been trying to call but can't get through. Any tips on the best time to call?

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and be ready to dial at 8:00:01 AM. It's still a pain, but your chances are way better.

•Another tip is to try calling on Wednesdays or Thursdays, mid-morning. Sometimes they're less busy after the initial Monday and Tuesday rush.

Have you tried using the online portal to correct the information? Sometimes you can make changes there without having to call.

•I looked but couldn't find any way to edit the info online. Seems like calling is the only option 😩

•It would be helpful if they offered a tutorial or clearer instructions for these situations online.

•For real. It's 2024 and we still can't edit our own info online? What a joke.

•The system definitely needs an overhaul. Hopefully with enough complaints, there'll be improvements soon.

Ava Thompson
•I didn't even know that was an option. How do I find my assembly member?

LunarLegend
•Just google "[your city] assembly member". They usually have a form on their website for EDD help. Worth a shot!

•Yes, contacting your local representative can sometimes work wonders. They have the connections to escalate issues.

Listen up, I've been through the EDD wringer and here's what you need to do: 1. Don't panic. Mistakes happen and they can be fixed. 2. Document everything. Write down the correct dates, what you entered by mistake, and any other relevant info. 3. Call EDD first thing in the morning. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours. 4. When you get through, explain the situation clearly and ask them to correct the date in their system. 5. Ask about your future payments. Confirm whether you need to keep certifying or if they'll be automatic. 6. Get the name of the person you speak to and a reference number for the call. 7. Follow up with a written request (email or mail) summarizing what was discussed and agreed upon. Remember, persistence is key with EDD. Don't give up if you don't get through on the first try. And always, always keep certifying unless explicitly told otherwise by an EDD rep. Good luck!

•In addition to calling, try checking their social media for any alerts or updates. Sometimes they post info on less busy call times.

It might help to connect with local support groups or Facebook communities that discuss EDD issues. They might have additional tips or updates on less crowded times to call.

pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling some of the other edd numbers (like the employer line or tech support). sometimes they can help or at least transfer u to the right person

•It's not ideal, but it's a last resort when you're stuck. Just be polite and explain your situation honestly.
