EDD: Accidentally certified for wrong week - What to do?
Hey everyone, I messed up big time. I accidentally certified for a week I wasn't supposed to on my unemployment claim. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do? I'm worried about getting in trouble or messing up my future benefits. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Dont worry too much, it happens! Call the EDD asap and explain the situation. They can usually fix it pretty easily. Just be honest and upfront about the mistake.

•True, the phone lines are a nightmare. Keep trying tho, early morning seems to work best!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. I swear they make it confusing on purpose 🤬

Here's what you need to do: 1. Don't panic! Mistakes happen and EDD deals with this all the time. 2. Call EDD customer service ASAP. Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. 3. Explain the situation clearly and ask them to correct the certification. 4. If they can't fix it immediately, ask about the process for submitting a written correction. 5. Keep detailed notes of your call (date, time, rep name if possible). 6. Follow up in writing if needed - send a letter explaining the mistake. 7. Check your online account regularly for any updates or messages. 8. If you received any overpayment, don't spend it! You may need to repay. 9. For future weeks, double-check your dates before submitting. Remember, honesty is the best policy here. EDD is generally understanding about honest mistakes as long as you're proactive about fixing them. Good luck!

•Great advice! I'd add: screenshot everything just in case. EDD's known for 'losing' info sometimes 🙄

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the unemployment system? This stuff shouldn't be so complicated 🤦♂️

I actually had this exact same situation happen to me a few months ago! Don't stress too much about it - EDD is used to handling these kinds of mistakes. When I called, they were able to reverse the incorrect certification and adjust my claim without any penalties. The key is to call as soon as possible and be completely honest about what happened. I'd recommend calling first thing in the morning (like 8 AM sharp) to have the best chance of getting through. Also, have your claim details ready and write down exactly what you want to say before you call. It took about 15 minutes once I actually got someone on the line, and they fixed it right away. You got this! 💪

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I was really freaking out about potential penalties or getting my claim suspended. Your advice about calling at 8 AM sharp is super helpful - I'll definitely try that tomorrow. Having everything written down beforehand is a great tip too. Really appreciate you taking the time to reassure me! 🙏
