EDD Unemployment Certification Mistake: How to Fix Wrong Answer About Reduced Hours?
I messed up on my unemployment certification and now I'm not getting paid. I accidentally answered the question about reduced hours wrong. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I finally get through to EDD? I'm freaking out because I really need this money.

Ugh, been there done that. Don't panic, it's fixable! When you get through to EDD (which is a whole other battle 🙄), just be honest. Tell them you made a mistake and want to correct it. They'll probably have you submit a new certification form.

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold last week!

•What time do they open? I've tried calling at different times but no luck 😞

•They open at 8am Pacific Time. Set your alarm and start dialing at 7:59! Good luck!

•30 minutes isn't that bad considering how long people have to wait sometimes. Thanks for the tip.

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand these forms? 🧑⚖️

•Seriously! I swear they make it confusing on purpose 🙄

Hot take: maybe if they paid their phone reps better, we wouldn't have such a hard time getting through 🤔

•If they had more staff, calls might be more efficient too.

This is why we need a better system. It's 2023 and we're still dealing with this nonsense? SMH

•For real. My cousin in Canada said their system is way more user-friendly. We're living in the stone age here.

I had a similar issue last year. Here's a pro tip: keep a detailed log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. It'll help if you need to escalate the issue later.

•That's great advice, thanks! I'll start doing that right away.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite EDD issues. Worth a shot!

Liam Fitzgerald
•I didn't even know that was an option. How do I find my assembly member?
0 coins
Miguel Silva
•Just google "[your city] assembly member". Their office should have a contact form or phone number for constituent services. They're usually pretty helpful!

•This is a great idea! Local representatives can sometimes pull strings that we can't.

PSA: Always double-check your answers before submitting! I learned that the hard way too 😅

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20?! That's ridiculous. The government should make it easier to reach them for free.

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•It's a shame we have to resort to paying for services like this, but if it works, it might be worth the cost.

Same thing happened to me last month. It's a pain in the butt, but fixable. Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep trying to reach EDD (I know, easier said than done) 2. When you get through, explain the mistake calmly 3. Ask about the process for correcting the certification 4. Be prepared to provide documentation of your actual hours 5. Follow up regularly until it's resolved Hang in there! The system is frustrating but you'll get it sorted out.

•Thanks for the detailed advice! How long did it take for you to get it resolved?

Amara Nnamani
•It took about 3 weeks total. The hardest part was getting someone on the phone tbh

•3 weeks?! 😱 I've been waiting 2 months and still nothing. This system is so broken.

•True, three weeks seems long but at least you finally got it resolved. Hopefully, it won't take that long for OP.

Hey, don't beat yourself up. The certification questions can be really confusing. I've seen tons of people make similar mistakes. Just be persistent in trying to reach them and explain the situation clearly when you do.
