EDD showing $0 pending amount after certification - did I make a mistake?

I'm freaking out a bit here. Just certified for my first two weeks of unemployment and when I logged back into UI Online today, I see that both weeks are showing a "pending" status with $0 listed as the amount! Does this mean I messed something up during certification? I reported that I was looking for work and didn't earn any income those weeks. I'm worried I clicked something wrong on those certification questions. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it just update with the correct amount later, or do I need to contact EDD to fix it? I really need this money for rent next month.

chill out it doesnt mean anything yet. the system just does that sometimes when theyre processing ur claim. give it a few days

Thanks for responding. Do you know how long I should wait before calling EDD about it? The rent is due in 2 weeks and I'm getting nervous.

This is actually quite common and doesn't necessarily mean you made a mistake. The $0 pending amount usually indicates one of three things: 1. Your certification is still being processed (most common) 2. EDD needs to verify some information on your claim 3. There might be an eligibility issue that needs to be resolved I would recommend waiting 3-5 business days before panicking. The system often updates the amount once processing is complete. If it still shows $0 after that time, you'll need to contact EDD for clarification. Do NOT submit another certification thinking the first one was wrong - this will only complicate things.

That's a relief to hear. I'll try to be patient and wait a few days. Do you know if they'll notify me if there's an eligibility issue, or do I need to keep checking my account?

0 coins

They should send you a notice through UI Online and often by mail as well if there's an eligibility issue that needs to be addressed. But it's still good practice to check your UI Online account daily, especially under the "Notifications" tab and "History" sections for any updates.

THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!!! EDD's system is TRASH!!! When I first filed last year it showed $0 for TWO WEEKS and I couldn't pay my car note. I called them 47 times before getting through and they said it was a "system verification delay" whatever that means. The money showed up 3 days later. The whole system is designed to make you give up I swear!!!

Same exact thing happened to me! I was about ready to throw my phone through a window after calling over and over. EDD seriously needs to upgrade their tech from 1995 lol

I work with EDD claims regularly. The $0 pending amount is usually temporary and is the system's default status while the certification is being processed. Here's what you need to know: - First certifications often take longer to process (5-7 business days sometimes) - If you certified on a weekend, add 1-2 extra days for processing - If you answered "yes" to any questions about being unable/unavailable to work, that could trigger a review - If you've recently had an address change or identity verification issue, that can also cause delays If it hasn't changed by this time next week, THEN you should contact EDD to inquire. Your claim isn't rejected just because it shows $0 - that's just the default placeholder amount.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I did certify on Sunday, so maybe that's why it's taking longer. I didn't answer yes to any of those questions though. I'll wait until next week before really worrying.

I had this same issue a month ago when I first applied for benefits. The $0 pending amount freaked me out too! What fixed it for me was finally getting through to an EDD representative who could tell me what was happening. They said my claim needed additional review because of my previous employer's response. I tried calling for days with no luck - always got the "we're receiving more calls than we can answer" message. Finally used a service called Claimyr that got me through to a rep in about 20 minutes. Worth every penny because they solved my $0 pending issue on the spot and my payment was processed the next day. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Hope this helps - waiting for payments is so stressful!

Thanks for the tip! If it doesn't update in a few days I might try this. Did they explain why your claim needed additional review?

0 coins

My former employer had contested my reason for separation (they claimed I quit, I said I was laid off). The EDD rep was able to review the notes, saw that my employer didn't provide documentation, and pushed my claim through. Having a real person look at it made all the difference.

happened 2 me 2 weeks ago. it updated 2 the right amount after 4 days. just wait a bit b4 u freak out

I remember when I first signed up for disability I got so confused between SDI and UI and all these different certifications and I almost applied for the wrong thing entirely! Then I got the pending $0 issue too and nearly had a heart attack thinking I'd done everything wrong. The whole system is so stressful when you're already worried about money. Hope yours gets sorted soon!

ui and sdi are totally different things tho. ui is unemployment and sdi is disability. not the same department even

0 coins

Yeah I know that NOW but when I first started the process it was all so confusing with similar looking websites and forms. Just saying the whole process is complicated especially when you're stressed!

One additional point: Make sure you check your EDD inbox for any messages requesting additional information. Sometimes the $0 pending amount appears because they need more details to process your certification. The message might be requesting income verification, identity documents, or answers to eligibility questions. Many people miss these notices and their claims stay pending longer than necessary.

0 coins

Good point - I just checked and there are no messages in my inbox. I'll keep checking it daily though. This whole process is so nerve-wracking when you're counting on the money.

Don't worry too much yet! My first payment showed $0 pending for about 5 days then suddenly updated with the correct amount. I think it's just how their system works while processing new claims.

0 coins

Just checking in - has there been any update to your claim status? It's been a few days since your original post.

0 coins

Yes! The amount updated this morning to my correct weekly benefit amount! Both weeks are still pending, but at least now they show the right dollar amount. Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance.

0 coins

Great news! Now you just wait for it to change from pending to paid, then another 1-2 days for it to hit your account/card. The system works eventually but man do they make you SWEAT!!!

So glad to hear it updated! I'm going through the exact same thing right now - certified three days ago and seeing $0 pending amounts for both weeks. Your post and all these responses have been super helpful in calming my nerves. I was about to call EDD in a panic but now I'll give it a few more days. It's crazy how stressful this whole process is when you're already dealing with job loss. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping us updated!

0 coins

You're so welcome! I'm really glad my experience could help ease your stress. It's amazing how much better you feel when you know you're not alone in this situation. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, especially when you're already dealing with all the uncertainty that comes with job loss. Hang in there and try to stay patient - based on everyone's responses here, it sounds like the system just needs time to catch up. Fingers crossed yours updates soon too!

I just wanted to add that if anyone else is reading this thread and dealing with the same issue, it's worth noting that the $0 pending amount seems to be especially common for first-time filers. I've been through this process twice now (unfortunately) and the first time took about 6 days for the amount to show up, while subsequent certifications usually update within 2-3 days. The system seems to have extra verification steps for new claims. Also, make sure you're not refreshing the page constantly - I swear it made me more anxious! Check once a day at most. Omar, glad yours worked out and thanks for updating us with the resolution!

This is such valuable insight about first-time vs. repeat filers! I'm dealing with this exact situation right now and had no idea there were different processing times. Your point about not refreshing constantly is so true - I've been checking my account like every hour and it's just making me more anxious. Going to try the once-a-day approach instead. Thanks for sharing your experience with multiple claims, it really helps put things in perspective for those of us going through this for the first time.

Just wanted to share another perspective on this issue - I'm a former EDD employee and can confirm that the $0 pending amount is absolutely normal during processing. The system is designed to show $0 as a placeholder until all automated checks are complete. These checks include verifying your identity, cross-referencing with employer records, and ensuring you meet continuing eligibility requirements. For new claims especially, there are additional fraud prevention measures that can add 2-4 business days to processing time. The good news is that once your amount updates (like Omar's did), payments typically process much faster going forward. Don't lose sleep over it - the system works, it's just painfully slow sometimes!

0 coins

This is incredibly helpful to hear from someone who actually worked at EDD! It's so reassuring to know that the $0 amount is literally just a system placeholder and not an indication that something went wrong. The fraud prevention measures make total sense given all the issues they've had in recent years. I wish EDD would just add a simple message on the website explaining this - it would save so many people from panicking like I did. Thanks for taking the time to share your insider knowledge with the community!

Reading through all these responses as someone who went through the exact same panic a few months ago! The $0 pending amount is like EDD's way of keeping us all on edge while they do their processing. I remember refreshing my account every few minutes and driving myself crazy. What helped me was setting a specific time each day to check (like 10am) instead of constantly refreshing. Also, screenshot your certification confirmation page if you haven't already - it shows you completed it correctly and gives peace of mind. The waiting game is brutal but everyone here is right, it almost always updates within a week. Hang in there!

0 coins

The screenshot tip is brilliant! I wish I had thought of that - would have definitely helped with the anxiety of wondering if I filled everything out correctly. Your approach of checking once a day at a set time is so much healthier than what I was doing (basically living on the UI Online page). It's amazing how this whole process teaches you patience whether you want to learn it or not! Thanks for sharing these practical tips along with the reassurance.

I'm going through this exact same thing right now! Certified yesterday and woke up to $0 pending amounts on both weeks. Reading through all these responses has been such a lifesaver - I was literally about to call in sick to work so I could spend the day trying to reach EDD. It's honestly ridiculous that their system doesn't just display a simple message like "Processing - amount will update within 5-7 business days" instead of the anxiety-inducing $0. But knowing this is completely normal and happens to pretty much everyone makes me feel so much better. Going to follow the advice here and wait it out for a few more days before panicking. Thanks Omar for posting this and everyone for sharing their experiences!

I totally feel your stress! I'm actually dealing with this right now too - just certified two days ago and seeing those dreaded $0 amounts. This whole thread has been like therapy for my anxiety about it! It really is crazy that EDD doesn't just put a simple "processing" message instead of making us all think we broke something. I was also planning to take time off work to call them but now I'm going to wait it out like everyone suggests. It's so helpful to know we're all in the same boat with this. Fingers crossed both of our amounts update soon!

This thread has been such a goldmine of information! I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - certified 3 days ago and both weeks showing $0 pending. I was literally losing sleep over this thinking I had somehow messed up my certification. Reading everyone's experiences here, especially hearing from the former EDD employee about it being a normal system placeholder, has been incredibly reassuring. It's wild how something so simple as a "processing" message could save so many people from this stress! I'm going to take the advice here and wait it out rather than spending my entire day trying to get through to their phone system. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community support makes such a difference when you're already dealing with the stress of unemployment!

I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you! It's really amazing how much peace of mind you can get just from knowing other people have gone through the exact same thing. I was in your shoes not too long ago - that $0 amount is like a psychological torture device! But seeing how it worked out for Omar and hearing from everyone else who went through it really does make all the difference. The former EDD employee's explanation was especially reassuring. You're absolutely right that a simple "processing" message would save so much unnecessary stress. Hope your amount updates soon and you can breathe easy again!

Just wanted to jump in here as someone who's been through this exact situation! I certified for my benefits last week and had the same $0 pending amounts showing up for both weeks. I was absolutely panicking because I need that money for groceries and utilities. After reading through similar posts in this community and waiting it out like everyone suggested, my amounts finally updated after 4 days! Now they show the correct weekly benefit amount and changed to "Paid" status yesterday. The money should hit my EDD debit card tomorrow according to the usual timeline. I know how stressful this waiting period is, especially when you're already dealing with job loss, but it really does seem to be a normal part of their processing system. Hang in there and try not to refresh your account every hour like I was doing - it just makes the anxiety worse!

This is so encouraging to hear! I'm currently on day 3 of the $0 pending amounts and was starting to spiral a bit. Your timeline gives me hope that mine should update within the next day or two. It's crazy how much mental energy this whole process takes when you're already stressed about being unemployed. I've definitely been guilty of the constant refreshing too - going to try to limit myself to checking once a day from now on. Thanks for sharing your experience and timeline, it really helps to know what to expect!

I'm currently going through this exact same situation! Just certified two days ago and seeing those scary $0 pending amounts for both weeks. This entire thread has been like finding a treasure chest of reassurance - I was about to have a complete meltdown thinking I had somehow ruined my certification. The explanation from the former EDD employee about it being a normal system placeholder really put my mind at ease. It's honestly shocking that EDD doesn't just add a simple "Processing - please allow 5-7 business days" message instead of the panic-inducing $0 display. Based on all the timelines shared here, it sounds like I should see an update by early next week. Thanks to Omar for starting this conversation and to everyone who shared their experiences - knowing you're not alone in this stress makes such a huge difference when you're already dealing with unemployment anxiety!

I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It's honestly incredible how many of us have gone through this exact same panic. I just went through it myself about two weeks ago and I remember that sinking feeling when I saw the $0 amounts after certification. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you're already stressed about finances. But based on everyone's experiences here, it really does seem like this is just how EDD's ancient system works - they show $0 as a placeholder while doing all their background processing. The fact that so many people have had the same experience and it worked out fine should definitely give you peace of mind. Fingers crossed your amounts update by early next week like you're expecting! And you're so right about EDD needing to add a simple processing message - would save so many people from unnecessary stress.

Going through this exact same thing right now and this thread is saving my sanity! Certified 4 days ago and both weeks still showing $0 pending. I've been checking my account obsessively every few hours like some kind of refresh addict. Reading everyone's experiences here - especially the former EDD employee explaining it's just a system placeholder - has helped me realize I need to chill out and let the process work. It's honestly mind-blowing that in 2025 EDD still can't figure out how to display a simple "processing" message instead of making everyone think they broke something. Based on the timelines everyone shared, I'm hoping mine updates by tomorrow or Friday. Thanks Omar for posting this and giving all of us anxious people a place to find some reassurance!

I totally get the refresh addiction! I'm in a similar boat - certified 3 days ago and have been practically glued to my UI Online account. This whole thread has been such a lifesaver for my anxiety. It's reassuring to know that so many people go through this exact same stress and it works out fine. The former EDD employee's explanation really helped me understand that the $0 is literally just how their system displays things while processing. You're right though, it's crazy that in 2025 they can't just put "Processing your certification" or something equally simple. Hope both of our accounts update soon - the waiting game is so hard when you're already dealing with job loss stress!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! Just certified yesterday morning and logged in today to see both weeks showing $0 pending amounts. I literally felt my heart drop thinking I had somehow messed up the certification questions. Reading through all these responses has been such a relief - it's amazing how many people go through this exact panic! The former EDD employee's explanation about it being a normal system placeholder is especially reassuring. It's honestly frustrating that EDD's system is designed in a way that causes so much unnecessary anxiety, but at least now I know to expect a 4-7 day wait for the amounts to update. Going to try the once-daily check approach instead of refreshing every hour like I was doing. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and timelines - this community support is invaluable when you're already stressed about unemployment!

I'm so glad this thread helped calm your nerves! I went through this exact same panic about a month ago - that heart-dropping feeling when you see the $0 amounts is awful. You're definitely doing the right thing by switching to once-daily checks instead of constantly refreshing. I made myself crazy doing that and it didn't make the process go any faster! Based on all the experiences shared here, you should see your amounts update within the next few days. The waiting is terrible but knowing it's completely normal helps so much. Hang in there and try to stay patient - the system will catch up eventually!

I'm literally going through this exact same thing right now - certified 3 days ago and seeing those dreaded $0 pending amounts on both weeks! I've been checking my account like every 30 minutes and driving myself absolutely crazy thinking I somehow messed up the certification. This whole thread has been a lifesaver for my mental health - it's incredible to see how many people experience this exact panic. The former EDD employee's explanation about it being a normal system placeholder really helped me understand what's happening behind the scenes. It's wild that EDD can't just add a simple "Your certification is being processed" message instead of the anxiety-inducing $0. Based on everyone's timelines here, I'm hoping mine updates by this weekend. Thanks Omar for starting this discussion and everyone for sharing their experiences - knowing I'm not alone in this stress makes such a huge difference!
