EDD showing $0 pending amount after certification - did I make a mistake?

I'm freaking out a bit here. Just certified for my first two weeks of unemployment and when I logged back into UI Online today, I see that both weeks are showing a "pending" status with $0 listed as the amount! Does this mean I messed something up during certification? I reported that I was looking for work and didn't earn any income those weeks. I'm worried I clicked something wrong on those certification questions. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it just update with the correct amount later, or do I need to contact EDD to fix it? I really need this money for rent next month.

Thanks for responding. Do you know how long I should wait before calling EDD about it? The rent is due in 2 weeks and I'm getting nervous.

This is actually quite common and doesn't necessarily mean you made a mistake. The $0 pending amount usually indicates one of three things: 1. Your certification is still being processed (most common) 2. EDD needs to verify some information on your claim 3. There might be an eligibility issue that needs to be resolved I would recommend waiting 3-5 business days before panicking. The system often updates the amount once processing is complete. If it still shows $0 after that time, you'll need to contact EDD for clarification. Do NOT submit another certification thinking the first one was wrong - this will only complicate things.

That's a relief to hear. I'll try to be patient and wait a few days. Do you know if they'll notify me if there's an eligibility issue, or do I need to keep checking my account?

They should send you a notice through UI Online and often by mail as well if there's an eligibility issue that needs to be addressed. But it's still good practice to check your UI Online account daily, especially under the "Notifications" tab and "History" sections for any updates.

THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!!! EDD's system is TRASH!!! When I first filed last year it showed $0 for TWO WEEKS and I couldn't pay my car note. I called them 47 times before getting through and they said it was a "system verification delay" whatever that means. The money showed up 3 days later. The whole system is designed to make you give up I swear!!!

Same exact thing happened to me! I was about ready to throw my phone through a window after calling over and over. EDD seriously needs to upgrade their tech from 1995 lol

I work with EDD claims regularly. The $0 pending amount is usually temporary and is the system's default status while the certification is being processed. Here's what you need to know: - First certifications often take longer to process (5-7 business days sometimes) - If you certified on a weekend, add 1-2 extra days for processing - If you answered "yes" to any questions about being unable/unavailable to work, that could trigger a review - If you've recently had an address change or identity verification issue, that can also cause delays If it hasn't changed by this time next week, THEN you should contact EDD to inquire. Your claim isn't rejected just because it shows $0 - that's just the default placeholder amount.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I did certify on Sunday, so maybe that's why it's taking longer. I didn't answer yes to any of those questions though. I'll wait until next week before really worrying.

I had this same issue a month ago when I first applied for benefits. The $0 pending amount freaked me out too! What fixed it for me was finally getting through to an EDD representative who could tell me what was happening. They said my claim needed additional review because of my previous employer's response. I tried calling for days with no luck - always got the "we're receiving more calls than we can answer" message. Finally used a service called Claimyr that got me through to a rep in about 20 minutes. Worth every penny because they solved my $0 pending issue on the spot and my payment was processed the next day. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Hope this helps - waiting for payments is so stressful!

Thanks for the tip! If it doesn't update in a few days I might try this. Did they explain why your claim needed additional review?

My former employer had contested my reason for separation (they claimed I quit, I said I was laid off). The EDD rep was able to review the notes, saw that my employer didn't provide documentation, and pushed my claim through. Having a real person look at it made all the difference.

I remember when I first signed up for disability I got so confused between SDI and UI and all these different certifications and I almost applied for the wrong thing entirely! Then I got the pending $0 issue too and nearly had a heart attack thinking I'd done everything wrong. The whole system is so stressful when you're already worried about money. Hope yours gets sorted soon!

Yeah I know that NOW but when I first started the process it was all so confusing with similar looking websites and forms. Just saying the whole process is complicated especially when you're stressed!

One additional point: Make sure you check your EDD inbox for any messages requesting additional information. Sometimes the $0 pending amount appears because they need more details to process your certification. The message might be requesting income verification, identity documents, or answers to eligibility questions. Many people miss these notices and their claims stay pending longer than necessary.

Good point - I just checked and there are no messages in my inbox. I'll keep checking it daily though. This whole process is so nerve-wracking when you're counting on the money.

Don't worry too much yet! My first payment showed $0 pending for about 5 days then suddenly updated with the correct amount. I think it's just how their system works while processing new claims.

Just checking in - has there been any update to your claim status? It's been a few days since your original post.

Yes! The amount updated this morning to my correct weekly benefit amount! Both weeks are still pending, but at least now they show the right dollar amount. Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance.

Great news! Now you just wait for it to change from pending to paid, then another 1-2 days for it to hit your account/card. The system works eventually but man do they make you SWEAT!!!
