PA UC weekly claim under review after accidentally selecting 'yes' to job absence question - help!
I totally messed up my PA unemployment claim last week and I'm panicking! I accidentally hit 'yes' instead of 'no' when it asked if I was absent from my job (I don't even have a job right now - I'm in my 18th week of collecting UC). As soon as I realized my mistake, I sent an email explaining the error and have been trying to call nonstop but can't get through to anyone. Now when I filed my weekly certification yesterday, the system let me file but displayed a message saying my claim is under review. I'm really worried this one stupid mistake is going to cause me to lose benefits or delay my payments. Has anyone else done something similar? How long does the review process take? I'm stressing about bills coming due next week!

dnt worry 2 much the same thing happened to me last month... accidentally clicked yes to the 'did you refuse work' question when i was half asleep filing at 2am lol. took about 10 days for them to fix it but they did backpay me for the missed week. keep filing every week like normal while u wait!

•Thanks for the reassurance! 10 days sounds better than what I was imagining. Did you just keep calling until you got through, or did they resolve it from your email explanation?

This is actually a common issue with PA's unemployment system. When you answer 'yes' to being absent from work while collecting UC, it automatically flags your claim for review because it suggests you may have been employed but not available for work that week (which would make you ineligible for that specific week). You did the right thing by emailing them immediately, but unfortunately emails can take 2-3 weeks to get a response. Calling is definitely the faster option. Keep filing your weekly claims as normal while this gets resolved - that way when they fix the issue, you won't have missed any weeks in the system.

•2-3 WEEKS for an email response?? That's ridiculous! I've been trying to call but it's always busy or I get disconnected after waiting forever. Is there any specific time that's better to call?

i made the exact same mistake in February!!! checked wrong box about being available for work when i was half asleep. UI puts u in review status but KEEP FILING EVERY WEEK!!! dont stop or youll have to backdate everything and thats another headache

I've been through this exact situation. The good news is that this is fixable, but the bad news is that PA UC is nearly impossible to reach by phone using the regular methods. After struggling for days with busy signals, I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent within about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The UC rep was able to see my file, note that it was clearly just a mistake on the weekly certification, and remove the hold immediately. My payment processed the next day. Worth considering if you're in a hurry to get this resolved rather than waiting weeks for an email response.

•I second this recommendation. After trying for literally a week straight to get through the regular UC phone lines, I used Claimyr and spoke to someone within 30 minutes. Made a huge difference when I had an issue with my job search records being questioned.

OMFG the PA unemployment system is such garbage!!! It's DESIGNED to trip people up with these confusing questions. Like why even ask if you were "absent from work" when you've already told them you're UNEMPLOYED??? The whole system is set up to catch people in trivial mistakes so they can delay payments. They KNOW most people who need unemployment don't have savings to last through these "reviews" that take FOREVER. And good luck getting through on that phone line. I spent THREE WEEKS calling EVERY DAY last year when they put my claim under review over a similar mistake. By the time they fixed it, I had already missed a car payment and damaged my credit score.

•That's exactly what I'm afraid of! I can't afford to miss even one payment right now. I'm going to keep trying to call but it's so frustrating that one simple mistake can cause so much trouble.

I think you're overthinking this a bit. When my neighbor's daughter had a similar issue (she checked yes for quitting a job when she meant to check no), they just called her to verify. Took about 2 weeks before anyone contacted her though. Just make sure your phone number is correct in the system and answer calls from unknown numbers for the next few weeks. They'll probaby just call to confirm and fix it over the phone.

Here's what you need to do step by step: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims as normal - this is CRITICAL 2. Document your attempts to contact them (dates, times) 3. If you can't get through by phone after several days, try the live chat function on the PA UC website between 8-9am when it first opens 4. Contact your state representative's office - they often have direct channels to UC offices and can help escalate issues 5. Check your portal regularly for correspondence or updates In most cases, these review flags are resolved within 7-10 business days. The system will automatically issue any back payments once the review is complete. The mistake you made is actually quite common and shouldn't result in a disqualification - worst case it might just delay that specific week's payment while they confirm the error.

•Thank you so much for these detailed steps! I didn't even think about contacting my state rep. And I'll definitely try the live chat first thing tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the help!

•Yes! Finally got it resolved yesterday. I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above to get through to a person. The rep said this happens all the time and fixed it immediately. Payment should come tomorrow. Good luck with yours!
