PA UC weekly certification final question - did I mess up my claim?

Hey everyone, I think I may have screwed up my weekly claim yesterday. I was filing my PA UC weekly certification and got really distracted during the last question (my kid was having a meltdown). I honestly can't remember what the last question even asks, let alone if I answered it correctly. Does anyone know what that final question is? I'm worried I might have clicked the wrong thing and now my payment will be delayed. Should I try to contact someone at UC to fix it if I answered wrong?

The last question on the PA weekly certification asks if you're able and available for work. You need to answer YES to this unless you were sick or unavailable during that week. If you answer NO, it can trigger an "open issue" and delay your payment until you speak with someone.

Oh no... I might have clicked no because I was distracted! Is there any way to fix this without calling? Their phone lines are impossible.

theres actually a couple questions at the end...one about being able to work, one about refusing work, and sometimes one abt job contacts. which one u worried about?

I honestly can't remember which one I'm worried about - that's the problem! It was the very last screen before submission.

OMG this EXACT THING happened to me last month!!! My toddler was literally SCREAMING and I just clicked through without reading and accidentally said I refused work WHEN I DIDN'T!!! It created an open issue and my payment was delayed for THREE WEEKS!!! The system is DESIGNED to trap us I swear!!!

Same boat here. Clicked wrong on question about work search. Two weeks no money. System is messed up.

To clarify for everyone, the PA UC weekly certification ends with these questions in this order: 1. Were you able and available for work? 2. Did you refuse any work or job referrals? 3. Did you complete your work search activities? (At least 2 per week required) If you answered incorrectly, you should try to contact UC immediately to explain the error. The sooner you address it, the less likely it will cause a prolonged delay.

Thank you for listing them all out! I think I might have clicked wrong on the work search one. I did my activities but might have selected no. What's the fastest way to reach someone? Should I try the chat function or is calling better?

I went through this last month. Spent 3 days trying to get through to PA UC on the phone with no luck. Busy signals constantly or it would hang up after being on hold. I finally used Claimyr.com and got through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a system that calls UC for you and connects when someone answers. Saved me a ton of time. There's a demo video here if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

Thank you! I'll check this out. Did you have to explain much to the agent or were they understanding about the mistake?

They were actually pretty understanding. I explained I was distracted and made a mistake, and the agent was able to note it in my file. Just be honest about what happened. They deal with this kind of thing all the time.

It's my second month but I usually file when the house is quiet. Lesson learned for sure.

When I applied for benefits in 2023, I had to verify that I completed two work search activities every week. I always had to be careful with that one because if you say no, they'll hold your payment. I also found that writing down my answers before I started the certification helped me stay focused.

thats smart i should do that. i always panic when fillin these things out

If you answered the work search question incorrectly, you should definitely try to reach someone at PA UC as soon as possible. Explain it was an error due to being distracted. They can often fix it on the spot if you get through to someone. The work search question is particularly important because PA requires those activities for continued eligibility.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I can get through!

Has anyone else noticed they change the ORDER of the questions sometimes?? I swear last month the work search question came BEFORE the able and available question and now it's switched!!! No wonder people make mistakes!!!!

The order of questions has been consistent for at least the past year. The work search question is always the last one in the sequence. What might be happening is that depending on how you answer previous questions, some additional questions might appear, making it seem like the order has changed.

UPDATE: I managed to get through to someone at UC using that Claimyr service. The agent was able to see that I did answer NO to the work search question even though I did my activities. They put a note on my account and said my payment should process normally now. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for the help.

Glad you got it sorted out! For future reference, I recommend filing your weekly claim in a quiet place with no distractions. I learned that lesson the hard way too!

nice. how long did it take to get thru?

Only about 25 minutes total, which is a miracle compared to my previous attempts calling directly. Worth every penny not to spend all day hitting redial.

This is such a common issue and honestly the PA UC system really needs to be more user-friendly. I've been there with kids screaming in the background trying to file claims! One tip I learned is to actually print out or write down the questions ahead of time so you know what's coming. The three main ones at the end are: 1) able/available for work, 2) refused any work, and 3) completed work search activities. I keep a little cheat sheet by my computer now so I don't have to think when I'm stressed or distracted. Glad you got it resolved with Claimyr - that service has been a lifesaver for so many people here!

That's such a great idea about the cheat sheet! I'm definitely going to do that going forward. It's crazy how stressful these certifications can be when you're already dealing with job loss and then add kids into the mix. I'm so grateful this community exists - you all saved me from weeks of worry and probably delayed payments. The system really should have a way to edit answers or at least confirm before final submission, especially for questions that can trigger holds.
