PA UC weekly certification mistake - didn't report future wages for last week of work

So I'm freaking out a bit here. My employment ended on January 11th, 2025, but I wasn't going to get my final paycheck until January 25th. When I filed my weekly certification for the week of Jan 8-14, I didn't report any wages because I hadn't been paid yet. I stupidly didn't realize that I was supposed to estimate and report my gross wages for those last few days I worked, even though the payment hadn't hit my account yet. Now I'm worried I've accidentally committed fraud or something! Has anyone dealt with this situation before? Can I fix this through the PA UC chat system or do I need to call them directly? Really don't want my claim messed up over a honest mistake :

Don't panic! This is a common mistake that happens all the time. You need to report your earnings for the week you actually WORKED, not when you got paid. You should contact UC as soon as possible to correct this. The easiest way is to use the message center in your dashboard to explain exactly what happened and provide the correct earnings amount for that period.

Thank you for the quick response! So do you think using the message center is better than trying to call? I've heard horror stories about the wait times to speak with someone.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me back in October. I worked my final week but didn't report it since I hadn't been paid yet. I used the chat function first but they told me I needed to call. Spent THREE DAYS trying to get through with constant busy signals before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to a PA UC rep in about 20 minutes! They have this demo video if you're curious how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent was able to make the correction right over the phone and I didn't have any issues with my payments after that. Just make sure you have your exact earnings amount ready when you call.

I tried the chat function too for an earnings correction and they told me the same thing - must call. The message center option sometimes works but they're extremely backlogged right now. Calling is definitely faster if you can get through.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of! Did your cousin have to pay back benefits? How much was the penalty?

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO TRIP PEOPLE UP!!! They deliberately make it confusing about when to report wages vs when you get paid. Then they hit you with an "overpayment" months later when you've already spent the money and can't pay it back!!! I'm still fighting with them over a similar issue from LAST YEAR. I've appealed twice and they keep sending me letters saying I owe them $2400. It's RIDICULOUS how they treat people who are just trying to get by after losing their jobs!!!!

Same thing happened to my neighbor! She's been fighting with them for months over a similar issue. The whole system needs an overhaul.

did you try going back and certifying again? i think theres a option to fix previous certification somewhere on the website, my brother did this once when he messed up his hours

Unfortunately, you can't edit previous certifications directly. Once submitted, you have to contact UC to make corrections. This is to prevent retroactive changes that could constitute fraud. The only proper way to handle this is to contact UC directly, either through calling, the message center, or attending an in-person appointment at a CareerLink office.

Here's exactly what you need to do: 1. Call UC at 1-888-313-7284 (good luck getting through, early morning is best) 2. Tell them you need to report unreported wages for a previous certification period 3. Provide the exact gross amount (before taxes) that you earned during that week 4. Request a confirmation number for the correction 5. Write down the date, time, and name of the representative you speak with The system will recalculate your benefit amount for that week. If you were overpaid, they'll either deduct it from future payments or send you a repayment notice. If you do this voluntarily, they usually won't assess a penalty since it was an honest mistake and you're correcting it promptly.

This is super helpful, thank you! Do they typically process the correction right away, or does it take some time? I'm just wondering how it might affect my upcoming benefit payments.

That's why I mentioned Claimyr above. Regular phone lines are basically impossible right now with how many people are filing claims this month.

To answer your follow-up question about timing: Once you report the correction, they'll process it within 1-3 business days typically. If you were entitled to partial benefits for that week (meaning your earnings were less than your weekly benefit amount), they'll adjust accordingly. If the adjustment results in an overpayment, they'll either deduct it from future payments or send you a notice with repayment instructions. The key thing is to correct this ASAP. The longer you wait, the more it looks intentional rather than a simple mistake. And yes, calling is definitely faster than the message center right now. Just be prepared for potential wait times.

Thanks again! You've been so helpful. I'll call first thing tomorrow morning and hopefully get this resolved quickly. Really appreciate everyone's advice here!

I went through this exact same situation last year! Made the same mistake of not reporting wages for work I'd done but hadn't been paid for yet. Here's what worked for me: I called the UC line at 7:00 AM sharp when they opened (1-888-313-7284) and got through on the second try. The rep was actually really understanding about it being an honest mistake. They corrected it on the spot and gave me a confirmation number. The whole call took maybe 10 minutes once I got through. They recalculated that week and I did owe back about $180, but they just deducted it from my next two payments rather than asking for a lump sum. No penalty since I reported it myself before they caught it. Don't stress too much - this happens more often than you'd think!

This is really reassuring to hear! I was worried they'd treat it as fraud since I waited a few weeks to realize my mistake. Sounds like as long as I'm proactive about fixing it, they're pretty reasonable. Did you have to provide any documentation when you called, like your final paystub or anything? I want to make sure I have everything ready before I call.
