PA UC weekly filing mistake - forgot to report one workday, need to fix?

So I messed up on my weekly claim certification for PA unemployment. I completely forgot that I picked up an extra shift last Tuesday (about 7 hours) and didn't include those hours when I filed on Sunday. I already got paid for the week. Is this going to cause problems? Can I just add those hours to next week's certification when I file, or do I absolutely need to call the UC office? Really don't want to spend 3 hours trying to get through on the phone if I can avoid it. Has anyone dealt with this before?

dont add it to next week thats fraud!!! u need to report it for the correct week only. they check w/ employer records and will catch it eventually trust me

Oh crap, really? I didn't realize it would be considered fraud. I definitely don't want to get in trouble over this.

You absolutely need to report this correction to the correct week. Adding hours to a different week is misrepresentation and can result in an overpayment determination or worse. PA UC takes reporting accuracy very seriously. You have a few options: 1. Call the UC service center at 1-888-313-7284 2. Send a message through your dashboard about the error 3. When you file next week, there's sometimes a question about whether you need to report any changes to previous weeks Honestly though, calling is your best bet for something like this. They can help you make the correction properly and avoid potential issues later.

Thanks for the detailed response. I was hoping to avoid calling because it's so hard to get through, but sounds like I don't have much choice.

I'm going through something similar right now. I forgot to include some part-time hours in May, and now I'm dealing with an overpayment notice. Trust me, it's better to fix it now than wait for them to catch it later. They WILL eventually cross-reference with employer tax records.

I had EXACTLY this problem last year!! I tried calling for THREE WEEKS and couldn't get through - busy signals or disconnects every time. Finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a PA UC rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through, the rep was actually super nice about it. She said it happens all the time and helped me file an adjustment. They recalculated my benefit for that week and I just had to pay back the difference. No penalties since I reported it myself before they caught it.

Is that service legit? Sounds too good to be true with how impossible it is to reach PA UC...

NEVER try to game the system!!! UC takes this stuff super serious and they will find out. My cousin tried to hide some work hours and ended up with a fraud case and had to pay back EVERYTHING plus penalties. NOT WORTH IT!!! Just call them and explain the mistake.

Just to clarify something important: making an honest mistake is different from intentional fraud. Since you're trying to correct this right away, they'll likely just adjust your benefit amount for that week without any penalties. Be prepared that you might need to repay some money if the additional hours would have reduced your weekly benefit amount.

That makes me feel a little better. It was definitely an honest mistake - I picked up the shift last minute and then completely forgot about it when filing on Sunday. I'll call them tomorrow and get it straightened out. Thanks everyone!

wait do we have to report hours or just days worked??? i thought we just had to tell them which DAYS we worked not the actual hours???

For PA UC, you report both the days worked AND your gross earnings (before taxes). The system asks for which days you worked during the week and then the total amount you earned. They use both pieces of information to calculate your partial benefit if you're eligible for one.

I went through this exact situation about 6 months ago! I forgot to report 8 hours of work and panicked when I realized it. I ended up calling the UC office (took forever to get through) but the rep was really understanding since I was being proactive about fixing it. They adjusted my claim for that week and I had to pay back about $60 in overpayment, but no penalties since I reported it myself. The key is to NOT wait - the longer you wait, the worse it looks. Also, definitely don't try to "fix" it by adding hours to next week's claim - that will just make things worse. Good luck getting through on the phone!

This is really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same thing! $60 payback doesn't sound too bad considering how worried I was about this. Did you have any trouble getting through on the phones? I'm dreading spending hours on hold tomorrow but sounds like I don't have a choice.

@Isabella Ferreira That s'so reassuring to hear! $60 isn t'too bad at all. How long did it take you to actually get through to someone on the phone? I m'mentally preparing myself for a marathon calling session tomorrow morning.

@Isabella Ferreira How early in the morning did you start calling? I ve'heard some people say calling right when they open at 8am gives you the best chance, but others swear by calling later in the day. Really hoping I can get through on the first few tries but probably being too optimistic!
