Can I edit my DEO weekly claim after incorrectly saying I didn't search for work?

I think I really messed up my claim this week! When filling out my weekly certification, I accidentally selected 'NO' to the question about looking for work. Truth is, I've been actively job hunting and even went to 3 interviews this past week. I didn't realize my mistake until after I submitted everything. Is there any way to go back and edit my weekly claim on CONNECT? I'm worried they'll deny my benefits or flag my account. Has anyone had this happen before and know what to do? Should I call DEO or is there some way to fix this online?

Unfortunately, there's no way to edit a claim after you submit it. You need to call DEO directly to explain the situation. They can make a note on your account. Make sure you have documentation of your job searches and interviews (dates, company names, contact info) ready when you call. The sooner you address this, the better!

Thanks for the info. Ugh, I was afraid of that. Every time I call DEO I just get busy signals or get disconnected after waiting forever. Any tips on actually getting through to someone?

i did the exact same thing last month lol. spent like 3 days trying to call them with no luck. finally got through to someone who said they'd make a note but my payment still got delayed by 2 weeks. so frustrating!!!

2 weeks?! I can't afford that delay right now. Did they eventually approve your payment or did you have to do anything else?

DEO is such a NIGHTMARE!!! I swear they DESIGN the system to make people mess up so they can deny benefits. I've had nothing but problems with them for months. Good luck actually reaching anyone - their phone system is from 1995. 😡

While the system can definitely be frustrating, I think in this case it's just an honest mistake that can be fixed. OP just needs to get through to a rep who can help document the job search activities that were completed.

Try using Claimyr to get through to a DEO agent quickly. I was in the same situation (accidentally said no to work search) and spent days trying to call before I found this service. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. The site is claimyr.com - they'll get you connected to a real DEO agent who can add those work searches to your claim. Once I got through, it took about 10 minutes to fix and my payment went through normally.

Thank you! I'll check this out. At this point I'll try anything to avoid having my payment delayed. Did the DEO agent need any specific info about my interviews?

Is this legit? Seems sketchy to use a third party service just to make a phone call...

To clarify what others have said: once you submit a weekly certification in CONNECT, you cannot edit it yourself. You need to contact DEO directly to have them add a note to your claim. When you speak with them, they'll need: 1. The names of the companies you interviewed with 2. Dates of the interviews 3. Contact information if available 4. Method of application (online, in-person, etc.) Also, for future reference, Florida requires 5 work search activities per week unless you have a work search exemption. Make sure you're completing and documenting all 5 to avoid this issue in the future. I recommend keeping a spreadsheet of all your work searches with dates, contact info, and outcomes.

Oh no, I didn't realize Florida requires 5 work searches! I've only been doing 3-4 each week. I'll definitely start keeping better records and doing more applications. Thanks for the detailed information.

wait did you file your claim in 2025? because i think the rules changed this year. my career source advisor told me that starting in january they're being more strict about the work search requirements. they're actually checking now and will deny benefits if you don't have proof

You're right that DEO has increased verification of work search activities in 2025. They're now randomly selecting more claims for work search audits. That's why it's crucial to keep detailed records of all job search activities, including screenshots of applications and any communication with potential employers.

UPDATE: I finally got through to DEO this morning! The agent was actually really understanding and helped add my work search activities to my claim. She said my payment might be delayed by 2-3 days but should still process this week. She also advised me to keep much better records of my job searches going forward and make sure I'm doing the full 5 required activities each week. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved quickly. This is why it's so important to address these issues immediately rather than waiting.

So glad to hear you got it sorted out! For anyone else reading this thread who might face the same issue - it really shows how important it is to act fast when you make a mistake on your claim. The 2-3 day delay isn't too bad considering it could have been much worse. And definitely seconding the advice about keeping detailed records - I started using a simple Google Sheet to track all my job applications with dates, company names, and method of contact. Makes the weekly certifications so much easier!

That's such great news that you got it resolved so quickly! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - accidentally clicked the wrong box on my certification yesterday. Your post gives me hope that DEO will be understanding when I call them. Did the agent ask you for any specific documentation of your job searches, or was it enough to just verbally explain what you had done that week? I have screenshots of my applications but wasn't sure if I'd need to email them or anything. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hi Chloe! I'm glad my experience was helpful. When I called, the agent just asked me to verbally describe my job search activities - company names, dates, and how I applied (online, in-person, etc.). She didn't ask me to email any documentation, but she did emphasize keeping better records for future audits since they're being more strict in 2025. Having those screenshots ready definitely shows you're prepared though! I'd recommend calling as soon as possible since they said timing matters for getting it corrected quickly. Good luck!

@Chloe Green I had a very similar experience to what Paloma described! The DEO agent I spoke with was mainly interested in the basic details - company names, dates, and application methods. They didn t'require me to submit any documentation during the call, but having those screenshots saved definitely made me feel more confident when explaining my activities. One tip: write down all your job search details before calling so you don t'get flustered trying to remember everything on the spot. The agent was actually pretty efficient once I had all the info ready. Definitely call ASAP though - they mentioned that the sooner you report the error, the easier it is for them to make the correction without delaying your payment too much.

@Chloe Green Just wanted to add that I went through the exact same thing a few months ago! The DEO agent was really professional and understanding about the mistake. Like others mentioned, they just needed the basic info verbally - no need to email screenshots during the call. But definitely keep those screenshots for your own records since they re'doing more audits now. One thing that helped me was calling first thing in the morning around (8 AM -) seemed like the wait times were shorter then. Also, don t'panic if your payment gets delayed a few days - mine was only delayed 3 days and processed normally after that. You ve'got this!

Just went through this exact same situation last month! I accidentally clicked "no" on work search and panicked. Called DEO the next morning and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The agent was super helpful - she added my job search activities to my claim and only delayed my payment by 2 days. Pro tip: have all your details ready before calling (company names, dates, how you applied). Also learned the hard way that Florida requires 5 work search activities per week, not just 3-4 like I was doing. Now I keep a detailed spreadsheet of everything just to be safe. Don't stress too much - honest mistakes happen and they can usually fix it if you call quickly!

This is so reassuring to hear! I'm actually in the middle of dealing with this same issue right now and was really worried about potential delays or complications. Your experience gives me hope that DEO will be understanding. I've been keeping better records since reading this thread, but I'm still nervous about the call. Did the agent ask you to verify any specific details about your job applications, or was it pretty straightforward once you explained the mistake? Also, good point about the 5 work search requirement - I had no idea it was that many per week!
