Can I cancel today's ESD weekly claim after reporting wrong work hours?
I'm freaking out a little and need quick advice. I just filed my weekly claim this morning but realized I made a big mistake. I accidentally reported my work hours for the entire past 2 weeks (Nov 4-16) instead of just for last week (Nov 11-16). I wasn't thinking clearly and totaled up everything on my timesheet! Will ESD think I'm trying to commit fraud? Can I somehow cancel the claim I just submitted today and redo it with the correct hours? Has anyone successfully canceled and refiled a weekly claim on the same day? I don't want to mess up my benefits or get flagged for an overpayment later.

Yes, you can correct this! Call the ESD claims center immediately at 800-318-6022. Explain exactly what happened - that you accidentally reported hours from outside the claim week. They can cancel today's claim and let you refile it correctly. Don't worry, this happens more often than you'd think. Just make sure you call TODAY before they process the claim.

•I've been trying to call for the last hour but can't get through! It keeps saying high call volume and disconnecting me. Is there any way to cancel online? I'm worried they'll process it before I can reach someone.

omg the EXACT same thing happened to me last month!! I reported like 60 hours when it should have been 32 for just that week. I panicked and tried calling like 20 times. never got thru. ended up getting a partial payment that was way lower than normal and then had to explain everything the next week. took forever to fix. the esd website is soooo confusing with how they ask for the hours!

•That's what I'm afraid of! Did they eventually fix your payment? Did they make you verify all your hours with pay stubs or anything?

•yeah they fixed it but I had to upload my timesheets and wait for them to adjust it. took like 3 weeks to get the rest of my money :

Try Claimyr if you need to get through to ESD today! I was in a similar situation last month and couldn't get through calling directly. Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 15 minutes. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 or go to claimyr.com. They basically hold your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing. The agent was able to cancel my claim and let me resubmit right away.

•Does that service actually work? I've been trying to reach ESD for 2 weeks about a completely different issue and keep getting the busy signal.

•It worked for me! The ESD phone system is basically impossible otherwise. The agent told me they're severely understaffed and that's why getting through is so hard.

If you can't get through by phone today, document everything. Take screenshots of your incorrect submission if possible, and write down exactly what happened and when you tried to call. Then try again first thing tomorrow morning (right when they open at 8am is best). If they process the incorrect claim, you'll likely receive a reduced benefit amount based on the extra hours you reported. You can file a benefit adjustment request after the fact, but it's definitely better to fix it before processing if possible. This isn't considered fraud since it was clearly an honest mistake that you're actively trying to correct. Just keep records of your attempts to fix it.

•Thank you, that makes me feel a bit better. I'll keep trying to call today but will follow your advice about documentation and trying early tomorrow if I can't get through.

Just curious but did you START working recently or have you been working part time all along while claiming? Because if you just started a new job you might have to report when you started anyway, not just the hours for the claim week.

•I've been working part-time at the same job the whole time I've been on unemployment. My hours vary week to week, which is why I qualify for partial benefits.

I had this same problem in June! I reported worked hours from training that happened outside my claim week. I ended up going to my local WorkSource office and they helped me get it fixed. They actually have a direct line to ESD that isn't the public number. Might be worth trying if you have a WorkSource nearby.

•That's a great idea! There's a WorkSource about 20 minutes from me. I'll head there if I can't get through by phone. Thanks for the suggestion!

•No problem! Just make sure to check their hours before you go. Most close at 5pm and some aren't open every day.

UPDATE: I got through to ESD! For anyone who has this problem in the future - keep calling and try the WorkSource suggestion. The agent said they could see I was trying to correct an honest mistake. They canceled today's claim submission and I was able to refile it with the correct hours right away. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

•Great news! Glad you got it sorted out. For future reference, always double-check your hours before submitting. It's much easier to get it right the first time than to fix it afterward.
