EDD SDI payment suddenly stopped - no deposit for 3 weeks and can't reach anyone!
I'm freaking out because my SDI payments just stopped without warning. I've been on disability since March for my back surgery, and payments were going smoothly until 3 weeks ago. Nothing has changed with my condition - my doctor even submitted another certification form last month confirming I still can't work. I was expecting my deposit on the 7th but nothing showed up. Checked my EDD account and it just says 'pending' with no explanation. I've called the main number probably 30+ times and it either disconnects me or says they're too busy. Has anyone actually managed to talk to a human being at EDD recently? I need a direct number or extension that actually works - rent is due next week and I'm seriously panicking. My doctor's office says everything is fine on their end so I don't understand what's happening!

This happens all the time with EDD, unfortunately. Most likely one of three things is going on: 1) They're reviewing your case for a possible extension since you mentioned being on SDI since March (regular disability is limited to 52 weeks), 2) There might be a quarterly review happening with your case, or 3) Your doctor's certification form triggered some kind of review. The main SDI number (1-800-480-3287) is practically useless these days. I'd recommend trying to call exactly at 8:00 AM when they open, and keep hitting '0' when the automated system starts talking - sometimes this gets you to a person faster.

•I've been trying the 8AM trick all week with no luck! My disability should run until late September according to my doctor, so I don't think it's an extension issue. My anxiety is through the roof not knowing what's happening. Do they at least send letters if there's a problem with the claim???

did you check ur payments history on the edd site? sometimes they put a notice there if theres a problem with certifiying or a flag on ur account. my husband's payments got delayed bc they needed a new doctors note even tho his condition hadnt changed at all. its stupid. we called like 40 times before someone picked up

•Yes, I checked the payment history and it just shows the last payment from 3 weeks ago, nothing pending or scheduled. No messages or alerts on my account either. The whole system is so frustrating! I wish they would at least tell you what's happening instead of leaving you in the dark.

I've been through this exact situation twice this year! After literally HUNDREDS of calls, I discovered that using Claimyr.com actually worked. It cost money but it got me through to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes when I had been trying for weeks on my own. They have a system that navigates the phone tree and holds your place in line, then calls you when they get a rep. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd In my case, it turned out they had flagged my account for a random eligibility review but never sent me the notice. The agent was able to clear it right away once I reached someone. Might be worth trying if you're desperate like I was.

•sounds like a scam tbh. why would u pay money just to talk to EDD? they should FIX their system instead of making us pay more

•I thought it might be a scam at first too, but I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks with no luck. It actually worked - I got through to a rep who fixed my case on the spot. I agree EDD should fix their phone system, but in the meantime, I needed my benefits to pay rent.

The EDD phone issues are RIDICULOUS! I can share what worked for me - call the main number but immediately press 1, 2, 4 in that order when the automated system starts. Sometimes this gets you to a different department who can transfer you to disability. Also, if your local assemblyperson has a constituent services office, CALL THEM!! My state rep's office helped escalate my case when I was about to be evicted because of delayed disability payments. They have special contacts at EDD and can sometimes get answers when we can't.

•Thank you so much for this advice! I hadn't thought about contacting my assemblyperson. I'll try the button sequence tomorrow morning AND reach out to my rep's office. At this point, I'll try anything to get some answers.

I work with disability claims professionally, and these payment delays are happening more frequently in 2025 than in previous years. Here's what I recommend: 1. Check your SDI Online account for any "Forms" section that might indicate a new form is needed 2. Call the alternate number: 1-866-401-2539 and select the payment information option 3. Verify your mailing address is current as they may have sent a paper request for information 4. If you received any W-2 or 1099 forms from a different employer in the past 18 months, they might be reviewing for potential wages while on disability If none of those resolve it, contact your doctor's office again and ask them to check if they received any requests for clarification from EDD. Sometimes the medical certification needs additional information.

•Wow, thank you for all these specifics! I just checked and my mailing address was wrong - it had my old apartment number. Could that be why I'm not getting any notices? I'll try that alternate number tomorrow morning too.

•Yes, that's likely the issue! EDD still relies heavily on paper notices despite having an online system. If they sent you a form requesting additional information and you didn't respond because you never received it, they would place your claim on hold. Call that alternate number, get through to an agent, explain the address issue, and ask them to resend any pending forms. They should be able to tell you exactly what's needed to restart your payments.

lol welcome to the edd nightmare. my payments stopped for 6 weeks last year and i nearly lost my car. turned out they just needed to verify my identity AGAIN even tho i'd already done it. the whole system is broken. good luck

Have you received any letters in the mail from EDD? Sometimes they don't update the online system but will send paper notices about payment issues. I know it sounds old-school, but that's how they still operate! Also, I had a similar situation where my payments suddenly stopped and it turned out they were doing a quarterly review of my claim (happens around every 3 months). When I finally got through to someone, they told me this happens automatically and there was nothing wrong with my claim - the review just causes a payment delay. So frustrating that they don't warn you about these things!

•I just discovered my mailing address was wrong in their system (thanks to another commenter here), so I probably missed any letters they sent. I've been on disability for just about 3 months now, so that quarterly review timing makes sense. Really wish they'd update the online system to tell us these things!

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! Turns out there were TWO issues - my address was wrong AND they were doing a quarterly review of my claim. The agent resent the quarterly review form to my corrected address and also processed an override to release my pending payment. She said I should see the money in 24-48 hours and then regular payments should resume once I return the form. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

•So glad you got it resolved! For future reference (and for others reading this), always make sure your address is updated both in your SDI Online account AND in your main EDD account - sometimes they don't sync automatically. And be prepared for these quarterly reviews if you're on longer-term disability - they're standard procedure but can cause payment delays if you don't respond to their forms quickly.

•I used the alternate number someone suggested (1-866-401-2539) and called right at 8:00 AM. Still waited about 45 minutes but at least I got through! The regular disability number still wasn't working for me.

This is such a relief to read! I'm currently going through the exact same situation - my SDI payments stopped 2 weeks ago with no explanation. I've been calling the main number constantly with no luck. I'm definitely going to try that alternate number (1-866-401-2539) first thing tomorrow morning and also check if my address is correct in the system. It's so frustrating that they don't warn you about these quarterly reviews or give you any indication online what's happening with your claim. Thank you for sharing your solution - it gives me hope that I can get this sorted out too!

•I'm in the same boat as you! My payments stopped about a week ago and I've been losing sleep over it. Reading through this thread has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about the quarterly reviews or how important it is to keep your address updated. I'm going to check my address info today and try calling that alternate number tomorrow morning. It's crazy that we have to figure all this out on our own when EDD could just send us a simple notification explaining what's happening. Good luck getting through to them!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress - I know exactly how terrifying it is when your disability payments just stop without warning! I went through something similar last year where my payments suddenly halted for 5 weeks. Like others have mentioned, it's often related to routine reviews that they don't properly communicate. A few additional tips that helped me: - Document every call attempt with date/time - this helped when I finally got through to show how long I'd been trying - If you have a case worker assigned to your claim, try calling the main office and asking to be transferred directly to them - Consider filing a complaint with the California State Disability Insurance Appeals Board if this drags on much longer - it sometimes motivates faster action The fact that your doctor confirmed everything is still valid on their end is a good sign. Most likely it's just bureaucratic delays or missing paperwork on EDD's side. Hang in there and keep trying that alternate number - you WILL get through eventually!

•Thank you for sharing those additional tips! The documentation idea is really smart - I've been calling so many times but never thought to write down the attempts. I don't think I have a specific case worker, but I'll ask about that when I call tomorrow. It's reassuring to hear that you eventually got it resolved even after 5 weeks. The stress of not knowing what's happening or when payments will resume is honestly the worst part. I'm going to try all the suggestions from this thread and hopefully get some answers soon!

This whole thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar issue where my SDI payments stopped 10 days ago with zero explanation. I've been panicking because I have no other income and bills are piling up. Reading about the quarterly reviews and address verification issues gives me some direction on what to check. I just logged into my account and sure enough, my address was missing my apartment unit number - probably why I haven't received any notices. Going to update that immediately and try the alternate number (1-866-401-2539) first thing Monday morning. It's absolutely ridiculous that EDD operates this way in 2025. They could easily send an email or put a notice in your online account explaining what's happening instead of just stopping payments and leaving people in the dark. The anxiety this creates for people who are already dealing with medical issues is just cruel. Thank you Jacob for posting this and for everyone who shared their experiences and solutions. At least now I know I'm not alone and there are actual steps I can take!

•I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! The missing apartment number is probably exactly what's causing the issue - it's amazing how such a small detail can completely derail your benefits. I had the same panic when my payments stopped and it really does feel like you're abandoned by the system when you need it most. Make sure when you call that alternate number, you have your Social Security number and case number ready because they'll ask for it right away. Also, if the first agent you get seems unhelpful, don't be afraid to politely ask to speak with a supervisor - sometimes you get someone who's more knowledgeable about resolving these address-related holds. You're definitely not alone in this! It seems like these payment interruptions are happening to more and more people lately. Hopefully you'll get through quickly on Monday and they can release your pending payments right away like they did for Jacob. Keep us posted on how it goes - your update might help the next person dealing with this nightmare!

I'm so sorry you went through this stress, but thank you for sharing your experience and the resolution! This thread is going to be incredibly valuable for others facing the same issue. It's ridiculous that EDD doesn't have better communication systems in place - a simple notification about quarterly reviews or address verification issues would save people so much anxiety and financial hardship. For anyone else reading this who might be in a similar situation, here's a quick summary of what worked: - Check that your address is correct in BOTH your SDI Online account AND main EDD account - Try the alternate number (1-866-401-2539) at exactly 8:00 AM - Be prepared for quarterly reviews if you've been on disability for 3+ months - Don't give up calling - it may take dozens of attempts but you will eventually get through It's heartbreaking that people dealing with medical issues have to navigate this broken system while already under stress. Hopefully sharing these solutions will help others get their benefits restored more quickly. Thanks again for following up with the resolution!

•This is exactly the kind of comprehensive resource that should exist on EDD's own website! As someone new to dealing with disability benefits, I had no idea about quarterly reviews or how crucial it is to keep your address updated in multiple places. The fact that we have to crowdsource solutions for basic communication failures is honestly shameful. I'm bookmarking this thread because I have a feeling I'll need to reference these tips in the future. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences - it's clear that persistence and knowing the right numbers to call makes all the difference in getting through EDD's broken phone system.

This is such an important thread - thank you Jacob for sharing your experience and everyone else for the helpful solutions! As someone who just started on SDI last month, I had no idea about these quarterly reviews or how critical address accuracy is across multiple EDD systems. I'm saving that alternate number (1-866-401-2539) and the tip about calling exactly at 8:00 AM. It's infuriating that people dealing with medical issues have to become experts at navigating a broken bureaucracy just to get the benefits they're entitled to. The fact that EDD can't send a simple email or online notification about routine reviews is inexcusable in 2025. For anyone still struggling with this issue, it sounds like persistence really is key - don't give up calling even if it takes 50+ attempts. And definitely double-check your address info in both accounts. This thread gives me hope that if my payments ever get interrupted, there are actual steps I can take to resolve it rather than just being stuck in limbo. Hope everyone who's dealing with payment delays gets through to EDD soon and gets their benefits restored!

•This entire thread has been a lifesaver! I'm also new to the SDI system (just started two months ago after a car accident) and had no clue about any of these potential issues. The quarterly review thing is especially concerning since I'll hit that 3-month mark soon. I'm definitely going to proactively check my address info in both systems right now and save all these phone numbers and tips. It's absolutely mind-boggling that in 2025, a state agency can just stop your payments without any real-time notification or clear explanation in your online account. The stress this must cause people who are already dealing with health issues is just cruel. Thank you Jacob for the detailed update and everyone else for sharing their solutions - this community support is what gets people through EDD's broken system!

Wow, this thread has been incredibly eye-opening as someone who's been fortunate enough not to experience payment interruptions yet (I've been on SDI for 2 months following knee surgery). Reading through everyone's experiences really highlights how broken EDD's communication system is - the fact that they can just stop payments for routine reviews without any notification is absolutely unacceptable. I'm definitely going to be proactive and check my address information in both my SDI Online account and main EDD account right now. The tip about the alternate number (1-866-401-2539) is gold - I'm saving that along with the 8:00 AM calling strategy. It's ridiculous that we need to crowdsource these solutions, but I'm so grateful everyone shared their experiences. Jacob, thank you for following up with your resolution! Knowing that it was the address issue combined with the quarterly review gives me a clear checklist of things to verify. The fact that the agent was able to process an override and release your pending payment gives me hope that when these issues do arise, there are people who can actually fix them if you can just get through. For anyone still dealing with payment delays, don't give up! This thread proves that persistence pays off and there are real solutions. EDD's system may be broken, but this community support is invaluable.

•I'm also relatively new to this system (started SDI 6 weeks ago after a work injury) and this thread has been absolutely invaluable! Like you, I've been lucky not to experience any payment issues yet, but reading through everyone's experiences has made me realize how unprepared I was for potential problems. I had no idea about quarterly reviews or how important it is to keep your address updated across multiple EDD systems. I just went and double-checked my address info and found a small discrepancy - my ZIP code was correct but missing the +4 extension in one of the accounts. Fixed that immediately! It's scary to think how such tiny details can completely derail your benefits when you're already dealing with medical issues and can't work. The community knowledge sharing here is amazing - from the alternate phone number to the specific calling strategies to the tip about contacting your assemblyperson's office. This is the kind of practical information that should be readily available on EDD's website but isn't. Thank you to Jacob for sharing the detailed journey and outcome, and to everyone else who contributed solutions. I'm bookmarking this thread as my "EDD emergency reference guide" just in case!

This entire thread should be required reading for anyone starting on SDI! I'm currently dealing with a similar situation - my payments stopped 4 days ago after being on disability for about 10 weeks following shoulder surgery. I've been calling the main number repeatedly with no success, but reading through all these experiences has given me a clear action plan. First thing I'm doing tomorrow is checking my address in both the SDI Online account AND the main EDD account - I had no idea they could be different! Then I'm calling that alternate number (1-866-401-2539) right at 8:00 AM. The timing makes sense since I'm approaching that 3-month mark where quarterly reviews apparently happen. It's absolutely infuriating that EDD operates this way - stopping payments without warning and providing zero communication about what's happening or what you need to do. For people already dealing with medical issues and inability to work, this kind of stress is just cruel. But seeing Jacob's successful resolution and all the practical advice from everyone gives me hope that this can be resolved. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions. This community support is literally what's going to get me through EDD's broken system. I'll definitely update once I get through to them - hopefully tomorrow!

•Chloe, I'm so sorry you're going through this too! The timing really does sound like it could be that quarterly review since you're at the 10-week mark. I was in your exact position just a few days ago - that feeling of panic when payments just stop with no explanation is awful, especially when you're already dealing with recovery from surgery. Definitely check both accounts for address accuracy - that seems to be such a common issue based on everyone's experiences here. And yes, try that alternate number right at 8 AM! Even if you have to wait on hold for a while, at least you'll be in the queue instead of getting the busy signal or disconnected like with the main number. The fact that Jacob got his issue resolved so quickly once he reached the right person gives me hope for all of us dealing with this. It really seems like most of these payment stops are administrative/procedural rather than actual problems with our claims. Hang in there and keep us posted on how the call goes tomorrow! This thread has become such a valuable resource for navigating EDD's terrible system.

This thread is absolutely incredible - thank you Jacob for sharing your journey and everyone else for all the practical solutions! As someone who's been on SDI for about 5 weeks now (spinal fusion surgery), I've been terrified about exactly this scenario happening. Reading through all these experiences has been both eye-opening and reassuring. I had no idea about the quarterly reviews or how critical it is to keep your address information perfectly synced across multiple EDD systems. I just went and checked both my SDI Online account and main EDD account - thankfully they match, but I can see how easy it would be for discrepancies to happen. The alternate number (1-866-401-2539) and the 8:00 AM calling strategy are game-changers. I'm definitely saving this thread as my "EDD survival guide" for future reference. It's absolutely shameful that in 2025, people dealing with medical issues have to become experts at navigating a broken bureaucratic system just to receive the benefits they're entitled to. The fact that EDD can just stop payments for routine administrative reviews without any real-time notification is cruel and inexcusable. But this community sharing solutions and supporting each other through these nightmare scenarios gives me so much hope. Thank you all for creating this invaluable resource!

•Sean, you're so right about this becoming an essential "EDD survival guide"! I'm also relatively new to the system (about 7 weeks on SDI after a work accident) and this thread has been absolutely invaluable. Like you, I immediately went and double-checked my address info in both accounts after reading everyone's experiences - everything matched thankfully, but it's scary how such small details can derail your entire claim. What really strikes me is how many people have gone through nearly identical situations - payments stopping around the 3-month mark with zero communication from EDD. It's clearly a systemic issue with their quarterly review process, not isolated incidents. The fact that we have to crowdsource solutions and share phone numbers just to access basic information about our own claims is ridiculous. I'm definitely bookmarking that alternate number and all the other tips shared here. The community support in this thread gives me hope that if/when I hit issues, there are real steps I can take and people who've successfully navigated this broken system. Thank you Jacob for the detailed follow-up and everyone else for sharing your hard-won knowledge - this is exactly the kind of practical information that could save someone from weeks of financial stress!
