EDD SDI payment delay after doctor submitted renewal - no continued claim form in inbox

So frustrated right now! I've been on SDI for the past 6 weeks due to a back injury from a workplace accident, and my doctor submitted all my renewal paperwork on Monday. Today's supposed to be my payment date (I usually get deposits on Thursdays), but there's NO continued claim form in my SDI Online inbox and payment hasn't been authorized yet! I've tried calling the EDD disability line at least 15 times today but keep getting the 'high call volume' message and then disconnected. Has anyone experienced this recently? Is there a trick to getting through to an actual human? I'm freaking out because rent is due next week and I'm completely depending on this payment. Any advice would be really appreciated!

yeah same thing happened 2 me last month!! the system is totally broken. one day everything is fine and then suddenly no claim form and no money. i ended up calling like 50+ times over 3 days before finally getting through. its ridiculous that we have to go thru this when were already dealing with health issues! when u do get thru they'll probably tell u that there was a "processing delay" or some BS like that. good luck

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did you just keep calling the main number? I've heard some people say there's specific times of day when it's easier to get through, but I've tried morning, afternoon, and evening with no luck.

This happens when there's a processing delay in their system or if something in your renewal paperwork triggered a review. A few things to try: 1. Check your SDI Online account for any correspondence - sometimes they send messages requesting additional information without notifying you by email or text. 2. Ask your doctor's office to verify the form was actually submitted and processed (sometimes they think it went through but there was an error). 3. If your doctor confirms everything is submitted correctly, it might be a system glitch. These have been more common since they updated the online portal in January 2025. Unfortunately, you do need to speak with a rep to resolve this, and the phone system is notoriously difficult right now.

Thank you for this detailed response! I checked my SDI Online account again and there's nothing in the messages section. I'll call my doctor's office first thing tomorrow to verify everything went through on their end. The timing of this is so stressful.

I'm currently going through the exact same situation! My doctor submitted renewal paperwork last week, and I didn't receive my continued claim form or payment yesterday as scheduled. I finally got through to someone at EDD this morning after trying a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connect you directly to an EDD agent and bypass the hold system - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. When I finally spoke with an agent, they told me there's a system-wide delay affecting many SDI claims right now, especially renewals. Apparently some doctor certifications are getting flagged for additional review because of a new verification process they implemented. The agent was able to manually push my continued claim form to my inbox, and I certified right away. Might be worth trying!

Oh wow, thank you for this information! I had no idea about system-wide delays - that actually makes me feel a bit better knowing it's not just my claim. I'll check out that Claimyr service you mentioned. Did they say how long the payment takes to process after they push the form to your inbox?

This EXACT thing happened to me and it was because my doctor checked the wrong box on form DE 2501. She checked "patient CAN return to work" instead of "patient CANNOT return to work". Took me 2 weeks of calling to find this out. Make sure your doc submitted everything 100% correctly because ONE tiny mistake can hold up everything!!!!

Oh no! That's a really good point. I'll definitely double-check with my doctor about that specific part of the form. It's crazy how one small checkbox can cause such a big delay.

The whole California disability system is completely broken. They're understaffed and overwhelmed, and we're the ones who suffer. I was on SDI for 4 months last year after my surgery, and EVERY payment had some kind of issue. One time they "lost" my paperwork that was submitted electronically! Another time they claimed they sent me a form that never arrived. I found that calling right when they open at 8:00 AM gave me the best chance of getting through, but even then it was like winning the lottery. I'd recommend also sending a message through your SDI Online account - sometimes they respond to those faster than calls. And document EVERYTHING - dates you called, who you spoke with, what they said. You might need it if you have to file an appeal later (which I had to do twice).

Sending messages never worked for me. I sent 3 messages over 2 weeks and never got a response. Calling is the only way.

hey have u tried calling the different office regions? sometimes the sacramento number (916-654-7099) has less wait times than the main 800 number. also try calling at exactly 8:01am, thats when i usually get thru

I didn't know about the Sacramento number! I'll definitely try that tomorrow morning at 8:01 exactly. Thanks for the tip!

I just wanted to follow up on my earlier comment. I received my payment today (just 1 day after the agent manually pushed the continued claim form to my inbox). When I spoke with them, they mentioned there's currently a 24-48 hour backlog on processing SDI renewal certifications. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the update! That's actually really helpful to know about the timeline. I'm going to try all these suggestions tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I can get this resolved quickly!

Good tip! I'll make sure to have all my info ready. My claim ID is on the last statement I got, so I'll keep that handy.

I'm dealing with a similar issue right now too! My doctor submitted my renewal forms on Tuesday and I'm still waiting for my continued claim form to show up. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - I had no idea there were system-wide delays happening. I'm definitely going to try calling that Sacramento number at 8:01 AM tomorrow and also check with my doctor's office to make sure they didn't accidentally check the wrong box on the DE 2501 form. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with a disability and then have to worry about whether your payments will come through on time. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips!

I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It's really reassuring to know we're not alone in dealing with this frustrating situation. The combination of health issues and payment delays is such an added stress we shouldn't have to deal with. I'm planning to try the 8:01 AM Sacramento call tomorrow as well - maybe we'll both have better luck! Keep us posted on how it goes with checking your doctor's forms. Fingers crossed we all get our payments sorted out soon!

Just wanted to share another tip that worked for me recently - if you can't get through by phone, try visiting your local EDD office in person if you're able to. I know it's not ideal when you're dealing with a disability, but I went to my local office last month when I had a similar delay and they were able to look up my claim immediately and resolve the issue on the spot. They have direct access to the system and can often fix things that would take weeks to resolve over the phone. You don't need an appointment for SDI issues, just bring your ID and claim paperwork. The wait time was about 45 minutes but so much better than calling 50+ times! Hope this helps someone who's still struggling to get through.
