Can't reach EDD SDI after 2 weeks of calling - filed claim 11/03 and now desperate

I'm at my wits end trying to reach someone at SDI! I filed my disability claim on November 3rd after my back surgery, and I haven't been able to get ANY information about my status. Been calling constantly for over a week now - literally 20+ calls each day and either get disconnected immediately or stuck in that endless hold loop until it eventually hangs up on me. My doctor confirmed he submitted all the medical certification paperwork on the 7th, but nothing is updating in my online account. Still says "pending medical certification" even though my doc swears he did it. My short term disability from work only covers 60% and runs out next month, and I have bills piling up. Has anyone successfully gotten through to an actual person at EDD recently?? I'm starting to panic about how I'll pay rent next month if this doesn't get resolved soon. Any tips or tricks would be SO appreciated!

Same boat here! Filed my pregnancy disability claim back in October and STILL can't get through. Their phone system is a JOKE!!! I've tried calling exactly at 8:00 am when they open and at different times throughout the day. Always the same result - 'due to high call volume' blah blah then disconnect. So frustrating when you're stressed about money already!

It's ridiculous right?? Have you tried contacting your doctor's office again to confirm they filled out everything correctly? I'm worried mine might have made a mistake somewhere but can't even get anyone to tell me what's going on.

I was in the same situation last month after my carpal tunnel surgery. What worked for me was using Claimyr - it's a service that basically gets you through to an actual EDD representative! I was skeptical at first but was desperate after 3 weeks of trying. They got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes. Check out their website claimyr.com - they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Once I finally talked to someone, I found out there was a discrepancy between my doctor's diagnosis code and what they entered in the system. They fixed it while I was on the phone and my claim was processed within 48 hours after that.

is that even legit? sounds like a scam tbh. why would u need to pay someone to call edd?? cant believe the state makes this so hard we need third party services just to talk to them 🙄

It's definitely legitimate - not a scam. They basically use technology to navigate the EDD phone system and hold your place in line. I was desperate enough to try anything after weeks of calling. The peace of mind was worth it to me, but totally understand being skeptical.

I've worked with SDI claims for over 8 years, and here are some things to try before paying for any services: 1. Double-check your SDI Online account is fully set up and verified. Sometimes people miss verification steps. 2. Ensure your doctor used the correct EDD account number when submitting certification. One wrong digit can cause delays. 3. Call at 7:58am - literally 2 minutes before they open. This increases your chances. 4. Use the Contact EDD function in your SDI Online account to send a message. While responses can take 5-7 days, they do eventually respond. 5. If it's been more than 14 days since your doctor submitted certification, request that your doctor's office contact EDD directly through their medical provider portal. Also, November can be extremely busy with holiday staffing shortages. This isn't helpful for your current situation, but explains why it's particularly difficult right now.

Thank you so much for these detailed suggestions! I'll definitely try calling right before 8am tomorrow. I've sent messages through the Contact EDD portal twice already but haven't gotten any response. Is there any way to check if my doctor entered the wrong account number? The office swears they did everything correctly but I'm suspicious something's off since my account still says 'pending medical certification'.

u can also try the disability office that's closest to ur home. go in person!! that's what i did after 3 weeks of calling. took half a day but finally got it sorted. they dont advertise this option but some offices will see u in person if u show up.

This doesn't work anymore since COVID! All the offices near me still don't allow walk-ins for SDI issues - they direct you back to the phone number. Maybe some areas are different?

I HATE the EDD system with every fiber of my being!!! Been dealing with them for 3 months on my claim and it's been nothing but problems. They lost my paperwork TWICE and then had the nerve to tell me I needed to have my doctor resubmit everything. Meanwhile I'm struggling to buy groceries and pay my electric bill. The system is DELIBERATELY designed to frustrate people into giving up. They're hoping you'll just stop trying so they don't have to pay your benefits. It's criminal what they're doing to disabled workers who have PAID INTO THIS SYSTEM our entire working lives!!!!!

i had this same issue back in september... kept calling and calling and nothing. what i did was contact my state assembly person and their office actually has liaisons who can help!! they contacted edd on my behalf and suddenly my claim got processed within 3 days. not sure what district youre in but google your state assembly rep and see if they can help. good luck!

I finally got through!!! After trying the Claimyr service that someone mentioned above, I was connected to an agent within about 25 minutes. Turns out there WAS an issue with my doctor's certification - they submitted it with my birthdate off by one day so the system couldn't match it to my claim. The agent was able to override it and manually match it to my claim while I was on the phone. She said I should see payment within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! Just wanted to update everyone in case it helps someone else.

Great news! This is actually one of the most common issues with SDI claims - small data mismatches between what you entered and what your medical provider entered. Even one digit or letter can cause the automated system to reject the match. Glad you got it resolved!
