EDD SDI payment delay - was due on 27th but not on card yet?

Anyone else experiencing payment delays with EDD SDI this week? My payment was scheduled to hit my EDD debit card yesterday (the 27th) but still nothing showing up today. This is my first disability claim after my back surgery and I'm getting worried because rent is due next week. Do SDI payments typically come on specific days? I certified on time and everything shows 'paid' in the system. Is there an extra delay between it showing 'paid' and actually hitting the card? How long should I wait before panicking and calling EDD?

There's usually a 1-2 day processing time between when it shows 'paid' in the system and when it actually hits your card. If your payment status changed to 'paid' yesterday, I'd expect it to be on your card by tomorrow at the latest. The payment schedule generally follows your certification date, not a fixed day of the week. So if you certified on Monday, payments might typically process on Wednesday.

Thanks for explaining! So there's no reason to worry yet? I'm just nervous because this is my first time on disability and I need to make sure I can cover bills.

The EXACT same thing is happening to me right now!!! My payment was supposed to be on my card yesterday too but NOTHING yet. I called the stupid automated system and it says "payment issued" but WHERE IS IT?? This is my 3rd payment for my pregnancy disability and the first two came on time. WHY do they do this to us when we're already dealing with health issues??!

So glad I'm not alone! Have your previous payments always arrived the same day they were issued or was there usually a delay? I'm wondering if there's something going on with the system this week.

My first two payments hit my card THE SAME DAY they were issued! That's why I'm freaking out now. I need to pay my car insurance tomorrow and was counting on this money. I HATE how unreliable this whole system is!!

SDI payment processing typically follows this timeline: 1. Certification processed and shows 'paid' in system 2. Payment issued (usually same day or next business day) 3. Bank processing time (1-2 business days) 4. Funds available on EDD debit card The total time from 'paid' status to available funds is typically 2-3 business days. Remember that weekends and holidays don't count as business days for payment processing. If your payment still hasn't arrived by day 4, that's when you should contact EDD to investigate.

I had this EXACT problem last month! Showed paid but took 3 days to hit my card. Tried calling EDD like 20 times and could never get through to ask what was happening. The whole time I was stressing about my mortgage payment. Then suddenly the money appeared with no explanation for the delay. The system is so frustrating.

If you're having trouble reaching EDD by phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in the same situation - couldn't get through for days about a delayed payment. Claimyr got me connected to an actual EDD representative in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd - saved me so much frustration! Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

One more thing to check - make sure you log into the Bank of America EDD debit card portal directly, not just the EDD SDI Online system. Sometimes the payment is actually on your card but not showing in the EDD system yet. The two systems don't always sync perfectly.

That's a great tip! I just checked the BoA portal and you're right - nothing there yet either. But at least now I know to check both places.

Just got it this morning! So it took exactly 2 business days after showing 'paid' in the system. What a relief!

Update: My payment FINALLY hit my card this morning! So it took 2 full days after the issued date. So stressful for no reason!

Glad to hear your payment arrived! For future reference, the 2-3 business day timeline is pretty standard for EDD SDI payments, though it can occasionally be faster. It's always good practice to build this delay into your financial planning if possible. The EDD system unfortunately hasn't improved their communication about these expected processing times.

I'm new to this community and just went through the same situation last week! My first SDI payment after knee surgery showed "paid" on Tuesday but didn't hit my card until Thursday morning. I was panicking because I had no idea this was normal - wish I'd found this thread earlier! For anyone else dealing with this, it seems like the 2-3 business day delay is pretty standard. Also learned the hard way to check both the EDD portal AND the Bank of America debit card site since they don't always sync up. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - makes me feel less alone in navigating this system!
