EDD SDI payment showing as sent but hasn't hit my bank account - normal delay?
My disability claim was finally approved (after 6 weeks of waiting!) and my EDD account shows my payment was processed and sent on 12/20/25. It's now 12/23 and I still don't see anything in my bank account. Is this normal? Does it usually take a few days for SDI payments to arrive after they show as 'sent' in the system? I'm starting to get worried because I have rent due on the 1st and was counting on this money. This is my first time on disability so I'm not sure how the payment timing usually works. Anyone know how long I should expect to wait?

Thank you! That's a relief to hear. I was getting really anxious about it. I didn't consider the holiday might delay things even more!

The timing depends on how you set up your payment method. If you selected direct deposit, it typically takes 2-3 business days after the payment shows as 'sent' in the EDD system. If you're receiving payments via the EDD debit card, it can sometimes take 3-5 business days for funds to be available on the card.\n\nAlso keep in mind that with the holidays, banks often have processing delays. December 25th is a holiday, and some banks also have limited processing on December 24th, which could extend the waiting time.\n\nIf you don't see your payment by December 27th, that's when I'd start to be concerned and contact EDD to follow up.

I chose direct deposit, so hopefully it'll show up soon. I'll wait until the 27th before I panic! Thanks for the detailed explanation.

When I was on SDI last year, my first payment took FOREVER to get to my account even after it showed as

I triple-checked my bank info when I submitted it, so I hope that's not the issue. Good to know that the first payment might take longer than future ones though!

Just wondering if your payment arrived yet? I'm in the same boat - mine was sent on 12/21 and still nothing in my account. This waiting is killing me!

Not yet! Still waiting and getting more nervous by the day. Will update when it comes through. Fingers crossed for both of us!

If you're really concerned about the delay, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative quickly. I was in a similar situation and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Used their service at claimyr.com and got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes who confirmed my payment status and exactly when it would arrive. They have a video demo showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd\n\nIt was worth it to get definitive answers instead of stressing about whether my money was lost somewhere in the system.

Yes, it did work for me. The EDD phone system is completely overwhelmed, especially around the holidays. With Claimyr I actually got through to someone who could look up my payment in the system and confirm it was in process.

UPDATE: My payment arrived this morning! It took exactly 4 business days after the 'sent' date showing in the system. I think the holiday schedule definitely added some delay. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance. For anyone else in this situation, just be patient - it does come through eventually!

Glad to hear it worked out! For future reference, this timing is pretty typical, and you're right that the holiday schedule can add delays. For your future payments, you can generally expect them to arrive 2-3 business days after they show as sent in the system.

This is such a common source of anxiety when you're waiting for that first SDI payment! I went through the exact same thing last year - the waiting period between "sent" and actually receiving the funds feels endless, especially when you have bills due. The holiday timing definitely doesn't help since banks process more slowly. It sounds like you're getting good advice here about the 2-5 business day window. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts with my bank so I'd get notified the moment any deposit hit my account. Hang in there - based on everyone's experiences here, it should show up soon!

•That's a great tip about setting up text alerts! I wish I had thought of that earlier - would have saved me from constantly checking my bank app every few hours. The waiting really is the worst part, especially when you're already stressed about finances. It's reassuring to know this is such a common experience and that everyone eventually gets their payments. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My payment showed as sent on 12/22 and I'm still waiting. Reading through all these responses is really helping calm my nerves - it seems like 3-5 business days is totally normal, especially with the holiday delays. I had no idea the first payment could take longer than future ones either. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with being out of work due to disability and then having to worry about when the financial support will actually arrive. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know this is just part of the process and not something to panic about!

•I totally understand that stress! I'm actually in a similar boat - my payment was sent on 12/20 and I'm still waiting too. This thread has been so helpful in understanding that this delay is completely normal, especially with the holidays. It's such a relief to see so many people sharing the same experience. The waiting is definitely the hardest part when you're already dealing with being out of work. Hopefully both of our payments show up soon! Thanks for sharing - it helps to know we're not alone in this.

I'm dealing with this exact same anxiety right now! My SDI payment showed as "sent" on 12/21 and still nothing in my bank account. Reading through everyone's experiences here is such a huge relief - I had no idea that 3-5 business days was normal, especially for the first payment. I've been checking my bank app obsessively every few hours and getting more worried each day. The holiday timing definitely makes it worse since I know banks are processing slower. It's reassuring to see that so many people have gone through this same waiting period and everything worked out fine. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps to know this is just part of the process and not something to panic about. Fingers crossed mine shows up soon too!

•I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My payment was marked as sent on 12/19 and I'm still waiting too. This whole thread has been incredibly reassuring - I had no idea this kind of delay was so common, especially during the holidays. I've also been obsessively checking my bank app multiple times a day, which just makes the anxiety worse. It's really comforting to see how many people have shared similar experiences and that everyone eventually received their payments. The advice about setting up bank alerts is great too - definitely going to do that now. Hang in there, it sounds like we should see our payments any day now based on everyone's timeline! Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps knowing we're all in this together.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I just got approved for SDI after a really stressful 8-week wait, and my payment shows as sent on 12/23. I was starting to freak out that something went wrong since it's been a few days now, but reading everyone's experiences here is such a relief. It sounds like the 3-5 business day window is totally normal, and the holidays are definitely adding extra delays. I had no idea the first payment typically takes longer than future ones - that's really good to know! I'm trying not to check my bank app every hour but it's so hard when you're already financially stressed from being out of work. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and advice - it's incredibly helpful to know this is just part of the process. Hopefully mine shows up soon!

•Welcome to the waiting game! I completely understand that anxiety - I went through the exact same thing when I first got approved. Eight weeks is such a long time to wait for approval, so I can imagine how frustrating it must be to then have to wait even longer for the actual payment to hit your account. The good news is that based on everyone's experiences in this thread, you're right on track with the normal timeline. Since your payment was sent on 12/23 and today is around 12/26-12/27, you should hopefully see it any day now. The holidays definitely slow things down with bank processing. Try to hang in there - I know it's easier said than done when you're financially stressed, but it sounds like everything is progressing normally. Your payment will come through!
