EDD SDI payment showing up online today - will it deposit on weekend or Monday?

I just checked my SDI account and saw my payment posted online around 1pm today (Friday). I'm wondering if the actual deposit will hit my account today or if I'll have to wait until Monday because of the weekend? This is my first disability payment after waiting nearly 3 weeks for approval, and I really need to pay some bills ASAP. Does anyone know how long it typically takes between when EDD shows the payment online and when it actually hits your bank account?

depends on ur bank. mine shows up same day usually but i have BofA. some banks take 1-2 days.

I have Chase. Hoping it comes through today, but worried since it's already afternoon.

If it posted today on the EDD website, the actual timing of the deposit depends on your bank's processing schedule. Most banks don't process deposits over the weekend, so Monday is more likely unless your bank specifically does weekend processing. EDD typically sends the payment information to the bank within 24 hours of it showing in your SDI Online account, but then it's in your bank's hands. Direct deposits are much faster than the debit card option.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I chose direct deposit when I applied. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if anything happens today.

Congrats on finally getting approved!! That waiting period is brutal when bills are due. My payment always showed up next business day after seeing it online, so probably Monday for you. But hey, at least it's approved now!

Thanks! Yeah, the waiting was definitely stressful. Good to know about the timing though.

UGH the EDD system is SO FRUSTRATING!! Mine showed online for THREE DAYS before it actually hit my account last month!!! And of course nobody answers when you call to ask about it. The whole disability system is a JOKE with how they make sick people wait for their money while bills pile up!!

Same here! And then when it finally came through, they had calculated my weekly benefit amount wrong and I had to spend WEEKS trying to get someone on the phone to fix it. I feel your pain.

If you need to actually reach someone at EDD about this or future payments, I had great success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). After trying for days to get through on my own, they connected me with an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. Saved me hours of frustration when I had payment issues with my disability claim. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

Thanks for the tip. If my payment doesn't show up by Monday, I might need this. Was getting through to a real person pretty straightforward with that service?

Yeah, it was super easy. They got me through to an actual claims specialist who could see my file and explain exactly what was happening with my payments. Worth it when you're stuck in payment limbo.

For anyone wondering about the general timeline: When a payment shows as "paid" on your SDI Online account, EDD has processed it on their end. For direct deposit, it typically takes 1-2 business days to appear in your bank account after that. Since banks don't typically process ACH transfers on weekends, Friday payments usually appear on Monday. If you opted for the EDD debit card instead of direct deposit, that can take 3-5 business days as they have to mail the card for first payments. Subsequent payments to the card are usually faster.

Update: You were exactly right! The money hit my account Monday morning around 9am. Thanks everyone for the help!

My last disability claim was 2 years ago when I broke my leg so things might've changed, but back then the first payment took longer to process than the subsequent ones. After the first deposit came through, the rest were like clockwork every two weeks. Hope that helps relieve some anxiety about future payments!

Does anybody know if its different for Paid Family Leave? Im applying next month when my baby comes and trying to figure out how long i'll be waiting for payments.

PFL uses the same payment system as SDI, but it's a separate program with different eligibility requirements. The timing should be similar once approved - payment shows online first, then 1-2 business days for direct deposit. But for PFL you don't have the 7-day waiting period that SDI has, which is nice.

Just wanted to share my experience for anyone else going through this - I had a similar situation last year where my SDI payment showed up online on a Friday afternoon. Like others mentioned, it didn't hit my account until Monday morning. The waiting is nerve-wracking when you're already dealing with being out of work, but at least seeing it online means EDD has processed everything on their end. One tip: if you have your bank's mobile app, you can usually see pending deposits before they officially post, which might give you peace of mind over the weekend.

That's really helpful about checking for pending deposits! I didn't think to look for that. I'm new to dealing with disability payments and all this waiting around is making me anxious. It's reassuring to hear from people who've been through this before - makes me feel less alone in figuring out how this whole system works.

Just went through this exact same thing a few months ago! When my payment showed up online on a Friday afternoon, I was so anxious about when it would actually hit my account. Ended up getting it Monday morning around 8:30am with Wells Fargo. The weekend wait felt eternal when you're stressed about bills, but at least once you see it in the SDI system you know it's coming for sure. Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank so you get notified the moment it deposits - saved my sanity during those first few weeks of disability payments!
