EDD issued SDI payment today - when will funds be available in my account?

So I just checked my SDI Online account this morning and it shows my disability payment was issued today (after nearly 3 weeks of processing!). This is my first SDI claim ever since I had to take time off for shoulder surgery. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit my bank account? I'm set up with direct deposit and getting really anxious since my rent is due in 2 days. The payment history page says 'issued' but doesn't give any timeline for when I'll actually see the funds. Thanks for any help!

usually takes 24-48 hrs depends on ur bank. mine always shows up next day with chase

That's a relief! I'm with Wells Fargo, so hopefully it's similar. The EDD website isn't very clear about the timing.

Oh no, 5 days?! I really hope it doesn't take that long. My landlord isn't exactly the understanding type...

The timing depends on your bank and whether you're receiving funds by direct deposit or EDD Debit Card. With direct deposit, most people see funds within 1-2 business days after the payment shows as 'issued' in the system. However, some banks may hold funds for 2-3 business days, especially for first-time payments.\n\nIf you're concerned about making rent, you might want to call EDD to confirm everything is processing correctly. In my experience, they can sometimes give you more specific information about when the transfer was initiated.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I guess I'll just have to wait and see. My bank normally processes direct deposits pretty quickly once they receive them.

I went through this exact situation last month. When my payment showed as 'issued' it was in my account the next morning. The one thing to note is that if this is your first payment, it sometimes includes multiple weeks of benefits if you've been waiting a while. Double-check that the amount matches what you're expecting based on your weekly benefit amount calculation.\n\nAlso, if you need to reach EDD about this or any future issues, I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual human at EDD when I couldn't get through. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. Saved me hours of frustration when I had a question about my certification dates.

does that claimyr thing really work? i tried calling EDD like 20 times last week and kept getting disconnected

It worked for me! I was skeptical at first but was desperate after trying for three days straight. Got connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes.

Just wanted to check in - did your payment arrive? I'm in a similar situation (knee surgery) and my first payment just got issued today. Trying to plan for when I'll have access to the funds.

Yes! It just showed up in my account this morning! So it took about 36 hours from when it showed as 'issued' on the EDD website. The amount was correct too, including my back payments for the weeks after my 7-day waiting period. Such a relief!

cool deal man glad it worked out 👍

For anyone finding this thread later - my experience with SDI payments has been totally inconsistent. Sometimes the money shows up the next day after it says 'issued' and sometimes it takes 3-4 days. I think it depends on what time of day they process it and maybe what day of the week. The most frustrating thing about the whole disability process is how little information they give you at each step! At least put a estimated deposit date on the website!!

I agree! The lack of clear information is really stressful, especially when you're already dealing with medical issues and worrying about finances.

As someone who's been through the SDI process multiple times, I can share that payment timing really varies by bank. Credit unions tend to be faster than big banks in my experience. One tip for future payments - most banks will show pending deposits in your online banking before they actually clear, so you can usually get a heads up that the money is coming. Also, if you're ever in a tight spot waiting for payments, some banks offer overdraft protection or short-term loans if you can show proof of incoming funds. Glad to hear yours came through quickly!

That's really helpful advice about checking for pending deposits! I never thought to look for that. My credit union does show pending transactions, so I'll definitely keep that in mind for future payments. The overdraft protection tip is smart too - it's good to know there are options if you're ever caught between payment dates. Thanks for sharing your experience with multiple SDI claims!

This thread is so helpful for understanding the SDI payment timeline! I'm currently waiting for my first payment after a back injury and it's reassuring to see real experiences from people who've been through this. The banking differences make a lot of sense - I'm with a local credit union so hopefully I'll see faster processing like Mateo mentioned. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't provide clearer timelines, but at least we have this community to share information. Thanks everyone for being so open about your experiences!

I totally agree! This community has been such a lifesaver for navigating the SDI process. When I was going through my first claim, I felt completely in the dark about everything. The official EDD resources are so vague, but hearing real experiences from people like you all makes such a difference. @AstroAce, I hope your back injury heals well and that your payment comes through quickly with your credit union! It's amazing how much we can help each other just by sharing what we've learned along the way.

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - had to file SDI for the first time after a wrist fracture and I'm amazed at how confusing the whole process is! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful. It sounds like most people get their funds within 1-3 days once it shows "issued" which is reassuring. I'm really grateful for communities like this where we can share real information about what to expect. The EDD website really should be clearer about these timelines - when you're already stressed about being unable to work, the uncertainty about payment timing just adds to the anxiety. Thanks to everyone who shared their banking experiences and tips!
