EDD SDI still showing 'pending' after 2 weeks - normal processing time?

I filed my California disability claim on April 17th, 2025 and uploaded all my medical certification forms through the EDD SDI Online portal the same day. My doctor confirmed they submitted everything properly too. It's been over 2 weeks now and my claim status still just says 'pending' with no other information. No payments, no messages, nothing. I'm starting to worry because my savings are running low and I can't return to work yet (recovering from surgery). Is this normal processing time for disability claims? Should I be doing something else to speed things up? This is my first time filing for disability and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to just wait or if something's wrong with my claim.

it can take 2-3 weeks before ur claim gets processed. mine took almost a month last yr. just wait a bit longer

A whole month? That's really stressful to hear. Did they backpay you for all the weeks once it was approved?

The standard processing time for EDD SDI claims is typically 14-21 days, but it can sometimes take longer depending on their current workload and whether all documentation was properly submitted. Since you're just past the 2-week mark, I'd give it a few more days before getting too concerned. Make sure you check your EDD SDI Online account daily for any messages or requests for additional information. Sometimes they need clarification from you or your medical provider, and the request can be easy to miss if you're not checking regularly. And yes, when your claim is approved, you will receive retroactive payments starting from the day after your waiting period ended (which is 7 days after your disability began).

Thank you for the detailed response! I've been checking my account obsessively but no messages yet. My doctor is pretty experienced with EDD forms so I'm hoping everything was done correctly. The waiting is just so stressful when bills are coming due.

THEY ARE ALWAYS "BACKED UP" WITH CLAIMS!!! I filed in January and didn't get approved for 5 WEEKS!! Called EVERY DAY and nobody picked up. Left messages, nothing. Then one day it suddenly switched to approved with NO EXPLANATION for the delay. The system is broken and they don't care that people have bills to pay!!!

omg 5 weeks?? that's insane. i thought mine was bad at 3 weeks :

That's terrifying to hear. I don't think I can make it 5 weeks without income. Did you have to keep calling or did it eventually just process on its own?

Have you tried calling the EDD SDI phone line? I know it's frustrating, but sometimes a quick call can resolve issues that might be holding up your claim. When I filed last summer, there was a small issue with my employer information that was causing a delay, but I didn't know until I finally got through to someone. I'd recommend using Claimyr to connect with an EDD agent quickly instead of spending hours redialing. I used it when my claim was stuck in pending for weeks - the service connected me to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes after I had been trying for days on my own. They've got a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd and you can find them at claimyr.com. Much better than waiting indefinitely, especially when you need those disability payments.

I've tried calling a few times but either get a busy signal or the automated message says they're experiencing high call volume. I've never heard of Claimyr before - I'll check out that video. At this point I'd try anything to get this resolved. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had a similar situation in February. My claim showed pending for almost 3 weeks. The issue turned out to be that my employer had submitted wages that didn't match what I reported. Once I got through to an EDD representative, they were able to clear it up right away and my claim was approved the next day. Some tips that might help speed things along: 1. Double-check that your medical provider used the correct diagnosis code on your certification 2. Make sure your last day worked matches on both your claim and your medical certification 3. Verify your employer responded to EDD's request for information (they sometimes don't, which causes delays) 4. If your disability is pregnancy-related, make sure the expected delivery date is clearly indicated If your claim isn't processed by early next week, I'd definitely recommend calling. Sometimes just speaking with a representative can identify and resolve whatever is holding up your claim.

Thank you for these really helpful tips! I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to verify they used the correct diagnosis code - I hadn't even thought of that being a potential issue. I'm not pregnant (it was shoulder surgery), but I'll definitely check with my employer too to make sure they responded to EDD.

EXACTLY! And we're supposed to just wait with no income while they figure out their staffing?? It's ridiculous!

When I filed for disability last year they asked for additional medical documentation after 2 weeks. Turned out they had sent me a message through the portal but I never got an email notification. Maybe log in and check your messages section just to make sure?

I just checked again and there are no messages in my inbox. I wish there was some way to see if something's missing or if it's just in a processing queue.

Just wanted to follow up - don't forget that even while your claim is pending, you should continue to certify for benefits for each two-week period. You'll find the certification option in your SDI Online account. Many people don't realize you need to keep certifying even when the initial claim is still being processed. If approved, you'll receive back payments for all properly certified periods after your waiting period.

Oh! I didn't realize I needed to keep certifying while it's still pending. Thank you SO much for mentioning this - I'm going to log in right now and make sure I haven't missed any certification periods. This is exactly why I asked here - there's so much about this process I don't understand.

Any updates? Did your claim status change yet?

Good news! I finally got through to someone at EDD this morning using that Claimyr service. Turns out there was a discrepancy between the first day of disability that I entered and what my doctor put on the form. The agent was able to update it on the spot, and she said my claim should be processed within 48 hours. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.

That's fantastic news! So glad you got it resolved. It's crazy how one small discrepancy can hold everything up for weeks. I've been following your situation since I'm dealing with something similar right now. Thanks for updating us - gives me hope that mine will get sorted out soon too!

Congratulations on getting it resolved! This is such a helpful thread for anyone dealing with SDI delays. It really shows how important it is to actually get through to a representative when your claim is stuck - sometimes there are simple issues that can be fixed immediately but you'd never know without talking to someone. Your experience will definitely help other people in similar situations know they should keep trying to reach EDD rather than just waiting indefinitely.

Absolutely agree! This whole thread has been so educational. I just joined this community because I'm starting the disability claim process myself next week and was dreading it after hearing horror stories. But seeing how everyone shared their experiences and actual solutions (like the Claimyr service and tips about checking for discrepancies) makes me feel much more prepared. It's really reassuring to know there are people here who will help guide you through the process when things get confusing or stuck.

Welcome to the community, Danielle! It's smart that you're preparing ahead of time. I'd definitely recommend bookmarking this thread and keeping notes on some of the key tips that came up - like making sure all dates match between your claim and medical forms, continuing to certify even while pending, and having backup options like Claimyr if you need to reach EDD quickly. The process can be stressful, but having a game plan really helps. Feel free to post here when you file your claim - we're all rooting for each other to get through this system successfully!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, Annabel! I'm definitely taking notes on all these tips. It's amazing how this community comes together to help each other navigate such a complicated system. I'll be sure to update everyone when I file my claim - hopefully it goes smoothly, but if not, at least I know there are people here who understand the process and can offer real solutions. This thread alone has probably saved me weeks of stress and confusion!

I just wanted to say how grateful I am for communities like this! When I was going through my disability claim process last year, I felt so lost and overwhelmed. Having people who actually understand what you're dealing with and can share practical advice makes such a huge difference. It's one thing to read the official EDD website, but it's another to hear from real people who've been through the exact same frustrations and know what actually works. Keep paying it forward - your support really does help people get through some of their most stressful times!

I'm new to this community and just wanted to say thank you all for sharing such detailed experiences and helpful advice! I'm currently going through the SDI application process myself (just submitted my claim yesterday) and reading through this entire thread has been incredibly valuable. It's reassuring to know there are specific steps I can take if my claim gets stuck, like checking for date discrepancies and using services like Claimyr to actually reach someone at EDD. Sofia, I'm so glad your claim finally got resolved - your updates throughout this process really help newcomers like me understand what to expect and how to advocate for ourselves. This community seems like such a supportive resource for navigating the complexity of California's disability system!

Welcome to the community, Aisha! It's great that you're being proactive by researching the process right after filing your claim. That puts you way ahead of where most of us were when we started! Since you just submitted yesterday, you're still well within the normal timeframe, but definitely keep all the tips from this thread handy just in case. The fact that Sofia's situation got resolved so quickly once she reached the right person really shows how important it is to be persistent if things don't move along as expected. Wishing you a smooth and speedy approval process - and don't hesitate to post updates or ask questions as you go through it!

Welcome Aisha! As someone who just went through this whole process, I can't stress enough how helpful this community has been. The key things that made the difference for me were: 1) checking daily for any EDD messages (even though I never got email notifications), 2) continuing to certify even while pending, and 3) not being afraid to call when things seemed stuck. The Claimyr service really was a game-changer - I probably would have waited weeks longer without it. Keep us posted on how your claim progresses, and don't hesitate to ask questions along the way. We're all here to help each other through this system!

Welcome to the community, Aisha! Your timing is perfect - you filed just yesterday so you're still in the early stages. One thing I learned from following Sofia's journey is to keep detailed records of everything (dates, times of calls, any correspondence) from the very beginning. It really helps if you need to reference something later when talking to EDD representatives. Also, make sure to screenshot your claim status regularly so you can track any changes. The waiting can be nerve-wracking, but having this community for support and practical advice makes such a difference. Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation - filed my SDI claim 3 weeks ago and it's still showing pending. Reading through everyone's experiences, I realize I should probably try calling EDD instead of just waiting. Sofia, it's so encouraging to hear that your claim got resolved quickly once you reached someone - gives me hope that mine might just need a small fix too. I'm definitely going to check out that Claimyr service since I've been having the same issue with busy signals and high call volume messages. Thank you all for sharing such detailed advice and creating such a supportive community for people navigating this stressful process!

Welcome to the community, Aisha! Three weeks is definitely getting into that territory where it makes sense to be proactive about reaching out to EDD. From following this thread, it seems like so many delays are caused by small discrepancies or missing information that could be resolved quickly if you can just get through to the right person. The Claimyr service really does seem to be worth trying based on everyone's experiences here. I hope your situation gets resolved as smoothly as Sofia's did! Keep us posted on how it goes - your experience will help the next person who finds themselves in the same situation.
