EDD requested delivery date confirmation but still no payment after submitting - help!
I'm so frustrated right now! I had my baby 3 weeks ago and EDD sent me a notification requesting my actual delivery date for my maternity leave claim. I submitted the info through my online account the very next day (even uploaded a copy of the hospital discharge papers), but I STILL haven't received any payment for the last two weeks. The status just says 'pending' with no explanation. I've called the contact number they provided in the notification at least 6 times, left 3 voicemails, and nobody ever calls me back. My bank account is getting dangerously low and I don't know what else to do. Has anyone dealt with this delivery date verification delay before? How long did it take to get paid after submitting? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately this is super common with EDD PFL right now. When they request delivery date verification, there's often a processing delay of 7-10 business days after you submit it. I went through the exact same thing in January. The online system showed receipt of my documents, but my claim stayed pending for nearly two weeks after I submitted my daughter's birth certificate. The good news is that once they process it, they'll release all payments at once including any retroactive amounts you're owed. If it's been more than 10 business days though, you definitely need to speak with someone directly.

•Thank you for this info! It's been 12 business days already since I submitted everything. Do you know if there's a better number to call than the one in the notification? I feel like my messages are just disappearing into the void.

•3 weeks?! That's so frustrating! Did you do anything special to get it processed, or did it just randomly update one day?

The EDD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN when it comes to these delivery date verifications!!! I had my baby in September and they made me submit my delivery date THREE SEPARATE TIMES because they kept "losing" it in their system. Each time they told me it would be another 7-10 days. I ended up waiting over a MONTH for my baby bonding payments to start! Meanwhile bills were piling up and we were draining our savings. This is how they treat new mothers?!? They need to fix this broken system! The worst part is you can never reach an actual human being to help resolve these issues.

•i feel your pain! they did the same to my sister last year, made her submit proof twice because they "couldn't read" the hospital paperwork she uploaded the first time. but never bothered telling her until she called after waiting 3 weeks! bureaucracy at its finest 🙄

Let me clarify something important: there's a difference between Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL/SDI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) for baby bonding. If you just gave birth 3 weeks ago, you should still be on disability (SDI) unless you had a very specific medical release. Baby bonding PFL typically starts after your doctor releases you from disability (usually 6-8 weeks postpartum). The delivery date confirmation is crucial because it establishes when your pregnancy disability claim transitions to recovery, which affects benefit calculations. The verification delay is frustrating but normal - they're confirming the date to ensure your disability benefits are calculated correctly before any transition to PFL. In my experience as an HR benefits coordinator, the best way to handle this is to: 1. Continue certifying for benefits every two weeks regardless of payment status 2. Upload your delivery verification again through your online account (sometimes files get corrupted) 3. Call the main EDD number (not the one in the notification) at exactly 8:00am when they open - that's your best chance of reaching someone 4. Specifically request to speak with a claim specialist about delivery date verification Once processed, they'll pay everything retroactively including any waiting period that applies. Hope this helps!

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! You're right - I'm still on pregnancy disability. My doctor gave me 8 weeks recovery time (c-section), so I won't transition to baby bonding PFL until later. I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow and uploading my documentation again.

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was stuck in a similar situation (kept getting the runaround after submitting my delivery verification) and couldn't get through to EDD for weeks. I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 10 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 that shows how it works. The agent I spoke with was able to verify that my delivery date documentation had been received and manually moved my claim forward in the system. Might be worth checking out their website claimyr.com if you're desperate to get this resolved quickly.

•I've never heard of this before. Does it actually work? I'm definitely reaching desperate territory and would try anything at this point.

•Yes, it definitely worked for me! The EDD agent I spoke with confirmed my delivery verification had been received but was sitting in a queue waiting for manual review. She expedited it once I explained my financial situation. My payment was processed the next day.

I had a similar issue back in December. What finally worked for me was contacting my state assembly member's office. They have dedicated EDD caseworkers who can cut through the red tape! I emailed my assembly member's office explaining my situation (including that I had a newborn and was without income), and they contacted EDD on my behalf. Within 48 hours, I got a call from an EDD supervisor who resolved my delivery date verification issue and released my payments. Google "[your city] state assembly member" to find your representative's contact info. Their services are free and they're there to help constituents with state agency problems.

•That's brilliant! I didn't even think about contacting my assembly member. I'll definitely try this if the other approaches don't work. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Don't waste your time calling that number in the notification - it's basically a black hole. I had EXACTLY the same problem in March and finally got it fixed by calling the main EDD disability number at 800-480-3287 at PRECISELY 8:01am when they first open. I had to try for 3 days straight but finally got through. When the automated system asks why you're calling, say "speak to a representative" and then when it asks again say "claim question" - that routing seemed to work best for me. Once I finally got a human on the line, they fixed my delivery date verification issue in about 5 minutes and my payment processed that night. The person told me there's a huge backlog of these verifications and they often don't get to them unless someone calls to follow up. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try the exact script you mentioned when calling the main number tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I can get through!

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! I tried calling the main number at 8am sharp like many of you suggested and used the exact prompts mentioned by @profilename3. After trying for two days, I finally got through to a representative this morning. They confirmed my delivery date verification was received but was sitting in a queue waiting to be processed manually. The rep expedited it and my payment was processed right away - it should be in my account tomorrow! Thank you all SO MUCH for your help and suggestions. For anyone else dealing with this issue, definitely call the main disability number early in the morning and keep trying until you get through to a human.

•Great news! I'm glad you got it resolved. Just a tip for the future - mark your calendar for when your disability claim will end and you'll transition to PFL for baby bonding. That transition is another common point where claims can get stuck, so you might want to call proactively around that time to ensure everything transitions smoothly.

•SO GLAD you got it fixed! And thanks for posting the update - it's really helpful for other moms going through the same thing to see what actually worked.

This is such a relief to read your update! I'm actually going through the exact same thing right now - had my baby 2 weeks ago and EDD requested delivery date verification. I submitted everything but my claim has been stuck on pending ever since. Reading through all these responses has been so helpful, especially knowing that this delay is unfortunately normal. I'm definitely going to try calling the main disability number at 8am tomorrow using the script that worked for you. It's so frustrating that new parents have to jump through all these hoops when we're already dealing with sleep deprivation and trying to bond with our babies, but at least now I have a game plan. Thank you for sharing your experience and congrats on your new baby!

•You're so welcome! I'm glad my experience could help someone else going through this nightmare. It's honestly ridiculous that they put new parents through this stress when we're already dealing with so much. The key really is persistence with calling - don't give up if you don't get through the first few times. Also make sure you have all your info ready when you do get connected (claim number, SSN, baby's birth date, etc.) because they'll want to verify everything before they can help. Wishing you the best of luck getting this resolved quickly! And congratulations on your new little one too! 💕

This entire thread is SO helpful and reassuring! I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - had my baby 10 days ago and submitted my delivery date verification 6 days ago, but my claim is still stuck on "pending." I've been checking the website obsessively and getting more anxious by the day. Reading everyone's experiences here makes me feel less alone and gives me hope that this will eventually get resolved. I'm definitely going to try the 8am calling strategy tomorrow morning with the script that worked for @ea5bda5990dd. It's honestly infuriating that this is such a common issue - you'd think they'd have figured out a better system by now, especially since new parents are already under so much stress! Thank you all for sharing your stories and advice. I'll update once I (hopefully) get through to someone!

•I'm so glad this thread is helping you too! I just went through this exact same ordeal last month with my son's birth. The waiting and uncertainty is absolutely the worst part, especially when you're already exhausted from having a newborn. One thing I learned that might help - when you do get through to someone, ask them to put notes on your account about the call and what was done. That way if there are any future issues, the next rep can see the history. Also, don't be afraid to politely ask them to escalate if the first person can't help - sometimes the supervisors have more authority to push things through manually. The good news is that once it gets resolved, the payment usually hits your account within 24-48 hours. Hang in there and keep us posted on how the call goes tomorrow!

I'm currently going through this exact same nightmare! Had my baby 18 days ago and submitted my delivery date verification 11 days ago through the online portal. My claim has been stuck on "pending" ever since and I'm starting to panic because rent is due next week. I've called that useless number from the notification probably 15 times with zero callbacks. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring (knowing I'm not alone) and infuriating (that this is such a widespread problem). I'm definitely going to try the 8am calling strategy with the main disability number tomorrow using the script that worked for others. It's absolutely ridiculous that new parents have to deal with this bureaucratic mess when we should be focusing on our babies and recovery. Thank you all for sharing your stories - it gives me hope that persistence will eventually pay off. I'll update once I hopefully get through to someone who can actually help!

•I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now! Had my baby 16 days ago and submitted delivery verification 9 days ago - still stuck on pending. It's so stressful when bills are piling up and you're already sleep deprived with a newborn. I've been following all the advice in this thread and finally got through to someone yesterday using the 8am calling strategy. The rep told me these delivery verifications are seriously backlogged right now and many are sitting in manual review queues for weeks. She was able to see my documents were received and readable, so now I'm just waiting for them to process it. Hang in there - from everything I've read here, persistence with calling is really the only way to get movement on these claims. Don't give up!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress with a newborn! This exact same thing happened to me in November. After reading through all these responses, I want to add one more tip that really helped me: when you do get through to EDD (and you will!), ask the representative to verify that your uploaded documents are actually readable in their system. Sometimes the files get corrupted during upload or their system can't open certain formats, but they won't automatically tell you this. In my case, my PDF was "received" but couldn't be opened, so I had to resubmit as a JPEG. Once I did that and called back to confirm they could access it, my payment was processed within 3 business days. Also, keep screenshots of your online account showing when you submitted everything - it can be helpful proof if there are any disputes about timing. The whole system is definitely broken, but don't lose hope! You WILL get your payments eventually, including all the back pay you're owed.
