EDD Maternity Leave payments stuck in limbo since January - no way to reach a rep!

Currently on week 5 of my maternity leave (started Jan 2, 2025) and I STILL haven't received a single payment from EDD! My claim status just says 'pending' online with zero explanation. I've submitted all required paperwork including the DE2501 form signed by my doctor. I try calling the EDD helpline literally every single day at different times (8am, 10am, 2pm, you name it) but always get the automated message saying 'the number of callers waiting to speak with a representative has reached maximum capacity' and then it just hangs up on me! 😩 My savings are almost gone and rent is due next week. Has anyone else had their maternity disability payments delayed this long? Is there ANY way to actually talk to a human being at EDD? I'm desperate and don't know what to do!

7 weeks?! I can't wait that long... did you ever manage to talk to someone or did it just randomly start working?

This is absolutely typical of the broken EDD system. They expect new mothers to somehow survive without income for WEEKS while they sit on our claims. I had to borrow money from my parents during my maternity leave because EDD took 6 weeks to process my claim in 2024. The whole system is DESIGNED to make you give up!!!! They know exactly what they're doing - if people get frustrated enough and don't get paid, that's money saved for the state. DISGUSTING way to treat new mothers.

That's what I'm afraid of... that they're just hoping I'll give up. I'm not going to, but it's so frustrating that they make it this difficult for people who are already dealing with a newborn!

There might be an issue with your claim that requires additional verification. Check your EDD online account for any messages requesting additional documentation. Look specifically under "History" and "Messages" sections. Some common reasons for delay: - Missing or incomplete medical certification - Employment verification issues - Wage calculation discrepancies - Identity verification requirements If you recently transitioned from pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding, sometimes there can be delays in the system recognizing the transition.

Thank you for these suggestions! I double-checked my online account and don't see any messages requesting more documentation. My doctor definitely completed all the medical certification properly. I'm just stuck in this limbo with no explanation and no way to contact anyone. It's maddening!

After dealing with EDD nightmares during my own maternity leave last year, I found a service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to call. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Basically they use a system that keeps dialing for you until they get through, then they call you and connect you with the EDD agent. It was the ONLY way I managed to resolve my payment delay. Once I finally talked to someone, they found that my claim had a random flag on it that needed to be removed.

Thank you so much for this suggestion! I'm definitely going to check it out. At this point I'll try anything to get this resolved. Did they explain why your claim was flagged?

So many people dealing with payment delays right now! I'm going through the exact same situation except I'm on baby bonding (PFL) after my pregnancy disability ended. Been waiting 4 weeks with no payment and can't get through on the phone either. Did you verify your identity through ID.me during your application? Sometimes that can cause delays if there were any issues with that step.

Yes, I did the ID.me verification and it went through fine. Got the confirmation and everything. It's so frustrating that so many of us are dealing with this! I hope you get your baby bonding payments soon!

One more recommendation - if you're still unable to reach someone, you might want to contact your state assembly member's office. Each district has caseworkers who can help constituents with EDD issues. They often have direct channels to EDD that can get your claim unstuck. Just google "[your city] state assembly member" to find your representative.

That's a great idea I hadn't thought of! I'll look up my assembly member today. Thank you!

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is ALWAYS "undergoing maintenance" whenever you actually need to use it?? I swear the whole system is from 1995. My sister works in IT and says their entire infrastructure is outdated by like 30 years lol

EXACTLY!!!! The site goes down CONSTANTLY and the phone system is even worse. How are we supposed to resolve anything when we can't even access our accounts half the time? It's like they're intentionally making it difficult.

Update: I called using the Claimyr service and finally got through to someone at EDD! Turns out there was an issue with how my employer reported my last day worked, which didn't match what I put on my claim. The rep fixed it immediately and said I should receive all my back payments within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! If anyone's stuck like I was, definitely try getting through to a real person - sometimes these issues can be fixed in minutes once you actually reach someone.

That's amazing! Thank you so much for updating us. I'm definitely going to try this approach. It's crazy that such a simple issue could hold up payments for weeks. I'm so glad you got it resolved!
