EDD SDI not answering phones - doctor sent forms 2 weeks ago but claim status still unknown
I'm completely stressed out about my disability claim. My doctor submitted all the required medical certification forms almost 2 weeks ago, but I have no idea if EDD even received them or what's happening with my claim. I've tried calling the disability office literally 15+ times over the past few days at different times (morning, afternoon, you name it), but every single time I either get disconnected or stuck in an endless loop of automated messages that never connects me to a real person. I can't afford to wait much longer without knowing if/when I'll get benefits - bills are piling up fast! The online system just shows "pending" with no other details. Has anyone actually managed to get through to a live agent recently? Is there a secret time to call or specific phone number that actually works? I'm desperate here!

same thing happened to me last month...took them like 3 weeks to even acknowledge they got my medical docs. the system is broken tbh. try calling right when they open at 8am, sometimes works better

•Thanks, I'll try the 8am thing tomorrow. Did you just keep calling over and over until you got through? This is ridiculous that they make it so hard just to check if they even have your paperwork.

The EDD SDI processing times are unfortunately running behind right now. Two weeks isn't unusual for them to still be processing your medical certification. A few things to check: 1. Log into SDI Online and check your claim status - sometimes there are messages or requests for additional information that don't get sent to you via mail/email 2. Ask your medical provider to confirm they sent the DE 2501 form completely filled out (many doctors miss sections which causes delays) 3. Remember there's a 7-day unpaid waiting period before benefits start, so that factors into when you'd see payments Hang in there - most claims do eventually process, it's just the waiting that's difficult.

•I checked SDI Online already and it just shows "pending" with no other info. My doctor's office confirmed they sent everything correctly. I'm past the waiting period too - I've been out of work for almost 3 weeks now. I just need to know if there's a problem with my paperwork or if I'm going to get paid soon!

the EDD is USELESS!!!! been dealing with them for years and nothing changes. they don't answer phones, they don't respond to messages, then they randomly deny claims for no reason. good luck getting any help from those incompetent bureaucrats!!!

•While I understand your frustration, I've actually had some decent experiences with the EDD disability team. Their systems are definitely overwhelmed, but most of the agents I've spoken with have been helpful once you can reach them. They're handling thousands of claims with limited staff.

I had this EXACT problem last month and wasted days trying to get through on those stupid phone lines. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD representative in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for over a week with no luck. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The agent I spoke with confirmed they had my documents but they were backlogged in processing. At least I knew what was happening instead of being in limbo. My payments started about 4 days after that call.

It's very common for SDI claims to show as pending for 2-3 weeks after the medical provider submits documentation. The current processing time for new disability claims is approximately 14-21 days under normal circumstances. Here are a few factual points that might help: 1. The online status will typically remain as "pending" until an examiner has reviewed all documentation 2. Medical certification forms (DE 2501) are often processed separately from the initial claim application 3. If your doctor sent the forms by mail rather than electronically, add 5-7 days of processing time 4. The first payment typically includes any retroactive benefits minus the 7-day waiting period If you're approaching the 3-week mark with no update, that's when you should be more persistent about making contact. The phone lines are absolutely most accessible between 8:00-8:30am and 4:00-4:30pm.

•This is really helpful information, thank you! My doctor sent everything electronically, so hopefully that speeds things up. I'll try calling at 8am tomorrow. Do you know if there's any way to check if they need additional information from me? I'm worried something might be holding up my claim that I don't know about.

My cousins aunts friend works at EDD and she said they're super behind on everything right now because they lost a bunch of staff. Apparently they're like 3-4 weeks behind on processing claims so you might need to wait longer. Have you tried faxing them? Sometimes that works better than calling.

•Faxing generally isn't recommended for claim status inquiries. The faxes go into the same processing queue as mailed documents and won't get you a faster response. The best method is still reaching a live representative by phone or using the online message center through your SDI Online account (though responses there can take 7-10 days).

Update: I FINALLY got through to someone at EDD this morning! Called right at 8:00am and only had to try 3 times. The agent confirmed they received my doctor's certification but said it's still in the processing queue. She said they're currently working on claims from about 2.5 weeks ago, so mine should be reviewed in the next few days. She also checked that there weren't any obvious issues with my paperwork. Such a relief to at least know what's happening! Thanks everyone for your advice.

•That's excellent news! Glad you got through and received confirmation. The uncertainty is often the hardest part of the disability claim process. Make sure to check your SDI Online account daily as the status can change quickly once they begin processing your claim.
