Best times to call EDD SDI customer service? Tried for 2 days - no luck
I'm at my wits' end trying to get through to an actual human at EDD about my disability claim! I've been calling the 1-800-480-3287 number constantly for the past two days at different hours (early morning, mid-day, afternoon) and either get the 'we're experiencing high call volume' message or it just disconnects me after going through all the prompts. I need to ask about my medical certification that I submitted three weeks ago but isn't showing up in my account. Has anyone successfully gotten through recently? Are there better times to call or maybe another number I should be trying? I'm getting really anxious because I need to know if they received my doctor's paperwork before my bills start piling up. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

•Thanks! I'll give that a try tomorrow. Did you have to wait on hold for a long time when you finally got through?

I had the same problem last month and discovered a service called Claimyr that actually helped me get through to an EDD representative without the endless calling. It basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I was skeptical at first, but it worked perfectly and saved me days of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The best part is you don't have to keep redialing and can actually do other things while waiting for your callback. Definitely worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone about your certification issue.

•Is this legit?? I'm always worried about giving my info to random services when it comes to my disability claim. Has anyone else tried this??

Former EDD employee here. The best times to call are typically Tuesday-Thursday between 8:15-8:45am or 4:15-4:45pm. Most people call right at opening (8am) or during lunch hours (12-1pm), creating the highest volume times. Avoid Mondays and the day after holidays completely - those are absolute nightmares. Regarding your medical certification issue, you should also check if your doctor's office actually submitted the form correctly. Many doctors think they've sent it but there was an error in submission. If it's been three weeks with no update, I would recommend: 1. Contact your doctor's office to confirm the date they submitted and ask for any confirmation number 2. Try sending a secure message through SDI Online (though responses can take 7-10 days) 3. If you do get through by phone, ask them to check both the document processing queue and the medical certification database - sometimes they're received but not properly linked to your claim Hope this helps!

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll try calling during those specific time windows. My doctor's office swears they submitted it electronically the same day I filed my claim, but I'll double-check with them for any confirmation number. I did send a message through SDI Online last week but haven't heard back yet. Really appreciate the insider perspective!

THE EDD SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!!! I called 47 TIMES before getting through last month. They don't want to pay out claims so they make it IMPOSSIBLE to talk to anyone!!!! When I finally got someone they told me my paperwork was sitting there THE WHOLE TIME just not processed!!!! This is how they save money - by making the process so frustrating people just give up!!!!

•While I understand your frustration, I don't think it's deliberate. The SDI division is just severely understaffed, especially since the pandemic. My claim was delayed too, but once I got through, the representative was actually very helpful and expedited my paperwork. They're dealing with thousands of claims daily with limited resources.

i had 2 call about my pregnancy disability last month and i ended up using my husband's phone to dial at the same time as mine so i had 2 phones going at once lol. finally got through after like an hour. btw make sure u have all ur info ready when u finally get someone. claim number, last work date, doctor info etc or they'll just tell u to call back when u have everything

•The two-phone method is genius! I might try that if I don't get through tomorrow. And great point about having all the info ready - that would be so frustrating to finally get through and then have to call back. I'll make sure I have everything at hand. Thanks!

I've found that using the automated system's option for filing a new claim sometimes routes you to a representative faster than selecting the option for claim questions. Once you get a person, explain that you actually need help with your existing claim. They might transfer you, but at least you're in the system and speaking with someone. Also, if your medical certification isn't showing up after three weeks, there might be a mismatch between your information and what your doctor submitted. Small discrepancies in your name, date of birth, or last work date can cause the system to not match the certification to your claim. When you do reach a representative, specifically ask them to check for unmatched medical certifications in the system. In the meantime, you might want to ask your doctor to resubmit the certification electronically through SDI Online if possible. Electronic submissions typically process faster than paper forms.

Just wanted to follow up - did you manage to get through using any of these suggestions? If you're still having trouble with your medical certification not showing up, another option is to visit an EDD office in person if there's one near you. They can often resolve certification issues on the spot rather than dealing with the phone system.

•Success! I tried the 8:15am call on Wednesday and got through after about 30 minutes on hold. The representative was actually super helpful and found that there was a name mismatch between my claim and my doctor's certification (they had my hyphenated last name while my claim just had my first last name). They fixed it right away and said my payments should start processing within 7-10 days. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

So glad to hear you got through and got it resolved! That name mismatch issue is actually super common - I've seen it happen with maiden names, middle names, and hyphenated names all causing problems. Your success story gives me hope for others struggling with the same issue. Thanks for following up to let everyone know what worked!

•That's such a relief to hear! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now and was starting to lose hope. The name mismatch issue is really good to know about - I'll make sure to double-check that when I call. It's crazy how something so small can hold up the whole process. Thanks for sharing the update, it definitely helps to know there's light at the end of the tunnel!

This whole thread is so helpful! I'm currently dealing with a similar issue where my disability claim has been pending for over a month. Reading through everyone's experiences, I'm realizing I should probably check with my doctor's office about potential name discrepancies - my legal name has my middle initial but I'm not sure if that's what they used on the medical certification. @Serene Snow - congrats on getting it resolved! It's such a relief when you finally get through and find out it was something fixable. I'm definitely going to try the 8:15am Tuesday-Thursday strategy that @Justin Trejo mentioned. The fact that a former EDD employee is sharing insider tips gives me so much more confidence about the timing. Has anyone else had success with the early morning approach recently? I want to make sure I'm not wasting time if the patterns have changed.

•Hey Olivia! I'm new here but have been lurking and reading all these tips. I actually just tried the 8:15am approach yesterday (Thursday) and got through after about 45 minutes on hold! So it definitely still works. Make sure you have your phone fully charged and maybe some water nearby because the hold time can be brutal even when you get in the queue. The name thing is so real too - I'd definitely double-check with your doctor's office about exactly how they submitted your info. It seems like such a common issue based on what everyone's sharing here. Good luck with your call! 🤞

I've been following this thread as someone who recently went through a similar nightmare with EDD SDI. What really helped me was keeping a detailed log of every call attempt - date, time, how long I waited, and what happened. After about 20 failed attempts, I noticed a pattern that Tuesday mornings around 8:20am seemed to have slightly better success rates than other days. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is that if you're calling about medical certification issues specifically, there's actually a different department that handles those cases. When you finally get through to a regular representative, ask them to transfer you to "Medical Services" - they have access to more detailed records about certification processing and can often resolve document matching issues faster than general customer service. Also, pro tip: if you get disconnected while on hold (which happened to me twice), call back immediately and mention to the next rep that you were just disconnected. Sometimes they can see recent call activity on your account and will prioritize getting you back into the queue. Saved me from starting over completely at least once. Hope this helps someone else avoid the weeks of frustration I went through!

•This is incredibly detailed advice, thank you! The idea of keeping a call log is brilliant - I wish I had thought of that earlier. The "Medical Services" department tip is especially valuable since that seems to be exactly what many of us need for certification issues. I'm definitely going to ask for that specific transfer if I get through. And wow, I had no idea they could see recent call activity - that disconnect tip could be a real lifesaver since getting cut off after waiting seems to be a common problem. Really appreciate you sharing all these insights from your experience!

I've been dealing with EDD SDI for a few months now and wanted to add something that hasn't been mentioned yet - if you're having trouble getting through by phone, you can also try contacting your local state assembly member's office. They have constituent services that can sometimes help escalate issues with state agencies like EDD. I know it sounds weird, but my neighbor used this approach when her disability payments were stuck for 6 weeks. The assembly member's office made a few calls and suddenly her case got priority attention. It took about a week after contacting them, but her payments started flowing again. You can usually find your assembly member's contact info on the CA legislature website. Obviously try all the phone timing strategies first since they're faster, but if you're really stuck and bills are piling up, it might be worth reaching out to your elected representatives. They work for us and helping with state agency issues is literally part of their job!

•That's such a smart suggestion! I never would have thought to contact my assembly member's office, but it makes total sense that they'd have resources to help with state agency issues. It's great to know there's another option if the phone system continues to be impossible. Your neighbor's success story is really encouraging - 6 weeks is way too long to wait for disability payments when people are depending on that income. I'm definitely going to look up my assembly member's info as a backup plan. Thanks for sharing this alternative approach!

Wow, this thread has been an absolute goldmine of information! I'm currently in week 4 of trying to get through to EDD about my disability claim status, and reading through everyone's experiences has given me so much hope and practical strategies to try. The timing tips from @Justin Trejo are incredibly valuable - having insider knowledge about the best call windows makes such a difference. I'm definitely going to try the Tuesday-Thursday 8:15-8:45am approach tomorrow. The assembly member contact suggestion from @Matthew Sanchez is brilliant too - I had no idea that was even an option! @Serene Snow, so glad you finally got your issue resolved! The name mismatch problem seems to be way more common than I realized. I'm going to double-check with my doctor's office about exactly how they submitted my information. One thing I wanted to add that might help others: I noticed that when I call, writing down the exact prompts and menu options beforehand helps me get through them faster, which might increase chances of getting into the queue before lines fill up. Every second counts during those narrow windows! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips. This community support makes dealing with the EDD system so much less isolating and frustrating.

•This thread has been such a lifesaver for me too! I just joined this community after spending weeks feeling completely lost trying to navigate the EDD system. Reading everyone's success stories and specific strategies gives me actual hope that I can get through this. @Luca Greco that s'a great tip about writing down the prompts beforehand - I never thought about how those extra seconds could make a difference during peak times. I m'going to prepare a cheat sheet tonight with all my info and the menu options so I can move through them lightning fast. The community support here is incredible. It s'so reassuring to know that other people have faced the exact same frustrations and found ways through. I was starting to feel like maybe I was doing something wrong, but clearly this is just how broken the system is right now. At least now I have a real game plan instead of just randomly calling and hoping for the best!

I'm so grateful to have found this thread! I've been struggling to get through to EDD for three weeks now about my disability claim that's been stuck in "pending" status. Reading through everyone's experiences has been both validating and incredibly helpful. I wanted to share a small tip that worked for me yesterday - I used the redial function on my phone instead of manually dialing each time, which saved precious seconds between attempts. I also discovered that if you get the "high call volume" message, sometimes hanging up immediately and calling back within 30 seconds can get you a different result. @Justin Trejo your timing advice is pure gold - thank you for sharing your insider knowledge! @Serene Snow congratulations on getting your issue resolved, it gives me so much hope. And @Miguel Ortiz the call log idea is brilliant, I'm starting one today. One question for the group: has anyone had success using the TTY line for hearing impaired? I'm wondering if that might have shorter wait times, though I'm not sure if it's appropriate to use if you're not hearing impaired. This community support means everything when dealing with such a frustrating system. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences!

•Welcome to the community @Fiona Sand! I'm new here too but this thread has been incredibly eye-opening. Your redial tip is smart - every second really does count during those narrow windows when lines open up. Regarding the TTY line question, I'd be cautious about using accessibility services if you don't actually need them - those lines are specifically designed for people with hearing impairments who can't use regular phone services. It might not be appropriate to use that route just to avoid wait times, plus they may have different procedures that could complicate your case. Have you tried the assembly member contact approach that @Matthew Sanchez mentioned? That might be a better alternative route if the phone system continues to be impossible. I m'planning to look up my representative s'info as backup too. Good luck with your calls! The fact that @Serene Snow and others have had success recently with these timing strategies gives me hope we can all get through eventually. This community support really does make the whole process feel less overwhelming!

I've been lurking on this thread for a while and finally decided to join and share my experience! Like many of you, I was stuck in EDD hell for almost 6 weeks with my disability claim showing "pending" status. What finally worked for me was a combination of strategies from this thread: I called at exactly 8:16am on a Tuesday (thanks @Justin Trejo!), had all my information pre-written on a notepad, and when I got through, I specifically asked to be transferred to the "Medical Services" department as @Miguel Ortiz suggested. The regular rep initially said she could help, but I politely insisted on the transfer and I'm so glad I did! The Medical Services rep was amazing - she found my doctor's certification immediately and discovered it was sitting in a "pending review" queue because of a minor date discrepancy (my last day of work was listed differently on my claim vs. the medical form). She fixed it on the spot and said payments would start within 5 business days. Sure enough, I got my first payment yesterday! One additional tip: when you're on hold, don't put your phone on speaker or use headphones - apparently some reps can tell and they prioritize regular phone connections. Not sure if that's true but the rep mentioned it to me. This community support has been incredible through this stressful process. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and keeping each other's spirits up! 🙏

•Congratulations @StarSeeker on getting your payments started! Your success story is so encouraging and shows that these strategies really do work when combined together. The Medical Services department transfer tip seems to be a game-changer for so many people dealing with certification issues. That's really interesting about the phone connection preference - I never would have thought that could make a difference, but at this point I'll try anything to improve my chances! It's such a small detail but could potentially help. Your experience with the date discrepancy is another great example of how tiny mismatches can cause huge delays. It's frustrating that these systems are so sensitive to minor differences, but at least knowing what to look for helps all of us prepare better. Thank you for sharing the details of what worked for you - it gives me a solid game plan to follow. The combination approach seems to be key: right timing + proper preparation + knowing which department to request. I'm feeling much more confident about my next attempt!

This thread has been absolutely incredible to read through! I just joined this community after dealing with my own EDD SDI nightmare for the past month. My claim has been stuck in processing since I submitted my medical certification, and like so many others here, I've been getting nowhere with the phone system. Reading through everyone's detailed strategies and success stories has given me the first real hope I've had in weeks. @Justin Trejo, your insider timing advice is pure gold - I had no idea about those specific windows when call volume is lower. @StarSeeker and @Serene Snow, your success stories prove these methods actually work when executed properly! I'm particularly grateful for the Medical Services department tip from @Miguel Ortiz - I had no clue there was a specialized department for certification issues. That could be exactly what I need since my problem seems to be related to document processing rather than general claim questions. @Matthew Sanchez, the assembly member suggestion is brilliant and something I never would have considered. It's reassuring to know there are multiple avenues to explore if the phone system continues to fail. Tomorrow I'm going to try the 8:15am Tuesday approach with all my information pre-written and ready to go. I'll also double-check with my doctor's office about exactly how they submitted my paperwork to avoid any potential name or date mismatches. Thank you all for creating such a supportive community and sharing your hard-won knowledge. Dealing with EDD is stressful enough without feeling like you're navigating it alone!

•Welcome to the community @Isabella Santos! I'm also pretty new here but this thread has been such a lifeline. It's amazing how much practical knowledge everyone has shared from their experiences with the EDD system. Your plan for tomorrow sounds solid - the combination of good timing, preparation, and knowing to ask for Medical Services seems to be the winning formula based on what @StarSeeker and others have reported. The fact that multiple people have had success with these specific strategies recently gives me confidence they're still working. I'm in a similar situation with my claim stuck in processing, and reading everyone's experiences has helped me realize I'm not alone in this frustrating process. The support and detailed advice in this thread is incredible - it's like having a guide through the EDD maze! Good luck with your 8:15am call tomorrow! I hope you get through quickly and get your issue resolved. Keep us posted on how it goes - success stories really help keep everyone motivated! 🤞

I've been following this thread closely and wanted to add something that might help others who are still struggling. After reading through all the excellent advice here, I tried a slightly different approach that worked for me last week. Instead of calling right at 8:15am, I actually called at 7:58am and stayed on the line through the "we're closed" message until exactly 8:00am when the system opened. This seemed to put me ahead of people who called exactly at opening time. I got through to a rep after only 15 minutes on hold! The key insight from @Justin Trejo about Tuesday-Thursday timing was spot on - I called on a Wednesday. And @Miguel Ortiz's advice about asking for Medical Services was crucial. The regular rep initially tried to help but the Medical Services specialist was able to access different systems and found my certification immediately. For anyone still waiting, don't give up! The combination of strategies shared in this thread really does work. Having your information organized beforehand makes such a difference when you finally get someone on the line. This community has been amazing for moral support and practical advice during such a stressful process.

•That's such a clever strategy @QuantumQuasar! Calling a couple minutes before they open to get ahead of the rush is brilliant - I never would have thought of that. The 15 minute hold time is incredible compared to some of the horror stories I've been reading about people waiting hours or getting disconnected. Your success story adds even more validation to the timing strategies @Justin Trejo shared. It seems like that Tuesday-Thursday window really is the sweet spot, and now with your pre-opening call technique, we have an even better approach to try. I m'so encouraged by all these recent success stories from you, @StarSeeker, and @Serene Snow. It proves that despite how broken the system feels, there are ways to get through if you know the right approach. The Medical Services department transfer seems to be absolutely crucial for certification issues based on everyone s'experiences. Thanks for sharing the specific details about your call - every little insight helps when we re'all trying to navigate this maze! I m'definitely going to try the 7:58am approach next time I call. This community support has been incredible! 🙏

•@QuantumQuasar that pre-opening call strategy is genius! I've been struggling for weeks and never thought to try calling before 8am. The fact that you only waited 15 minutes is amazing - I've been getting disconnected after waiting over an hour multiple times. I'm definitely going to try the 7:58am approach combined with asking for Medical Services directly. Reading through all these success stories has given me so much hope. It's incredible how this community has figured out all these workarounds for what seems like a completely broken system. Thank you for sharing the specific timing details - every little tip helps when you're dealing with EDD! Fingers crossed I can get through soon and join the ranks of people who've finally gotten their claims resolved 🤞

I've been dealing with a similar issue for about 3 weeks now and this thread has been absolutely invaluable! After reading through everyone's strategies, I'm planning to try the 7:58am pre-opening call approach that @QuantumQuasar mentioned - that's such a brilliant workaround to get ahead of the rush. Like many others here, my medical certification seems to be lost in the system somewhere. My doctor's office confirmed they submitted it electronically, but it's not showing up in my SDI Online account. Based on all the success stories shared here, I'm going to specifically ask for the Medical Services department when I get through, since that seems to be key for certification-related issues. One thing I wanted to add - I've been keeping a detailed spreadsheet of my call attempts (inspired by @Miguel Ortiz's suggestion), and I noticed that I've had slightly better luck getting past the initial menu on calls made between 8:00-8:03am versus later in the morning. The system seems to start rejecting calls completely once those first few minutes pass and all the lines fill up. This community support has been a lifesaver during such a stressful time. Thank you to everyone who's shared their experiences and strategies - especially @Justin Trejo for the insider timing tips and all the folks who've reported successful outcomes. It gives the rest of us hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel!
