EDD claim stuck in limbo - pregnancy disability to baby bonding transition issues?
So frustrated right now! I submitted my pregnancy disability claim on 2/15/25 and delivered my baby on 3/10/25. I reported the birth through UI Online right away. It's now been almost 5 weeks since delivery and I haven't received ANY payments - not for the end of my disability period or for baby bonding PFL. My online account just shows 'pending' with no explanation. I've sent THREE messages through the portal asking what's happening and haven't gotten a single response. I'm going crazy with medical bills piling up and zero income coming in. Does the transition from disability to PFL usually take this long? What am I supposed to do when they completely ignore me? Anyone else dealt with this black hole of communication?

•6 weeks?! I can't wait that long! Did you do anything special to get them to finally process it?

The transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL is a common sticking point in the system. What likely happened is your pregnancy disability claim needs to be properly closed before your PFL claim can begin processing. This creates a gap where neither benefit is paying out. Here's what you need to do: 1. File your final pregnancy disability certification if you haven't already (covering the recovery period after birth) 2. Make sure you've submitted the DE2501FP form for baby bonding 3. Call EDD directly - messaging rarely resolves these transition issues The system doesn't automatically transition you even though it should. You often need to speak with a claims specialist to manually push it through.

•Thank you for explaining! I did submit all the forms but I'll double check. The problem is I've tried calling EDD at least 10 times and either get disconnected or told the wait time is 2+ hours. Is there any better time of day to call?

If u can believe it they LOST my baby bonding paperwork TWICE!!!! I had to send it 3 TIMES before they finally processed it. And even then I had to call every single day for a week until I finally got a rep who actually FIXED the problem instead of just telling me to "wait". The whole system is designed to make u give up I swear..

I went through this exact same thing in January. The transition between pregnancy disability and baby bonding PFL is notorious for creating gaps. I spent THREE WEEKS trying to get through to someone at EDD with no luck. I was about to lose my mind until someone recommended I try Claimyr.com to connect with an EDD agent. I was skeptical but desperate enough to try it - their system actually got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. There's a demo video of how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 The rep I spoke with found that my PFL claim was stuck in processing because my pregnancy disability claim hadn't been properly closed. She fixed it on the spot and my payments started processing within days. Definitely worth trying if you're hitting a wall trying to reach them directly.

•Thank you for this! I've never heard of this service but I'm desperate at this point. Did they need any specific information about your claim when you called?

One thing that often gets overlooked: Did you check the "Start date of your PFL claim" that you entered on your DE2501FP? It should be the day after your pregnancy disability ends, with no gap in between. If there's even a one-day gap or overlap, it can cause the system to flag the claim for manual review, which is taking 4-6 weeks right now. Practical advice: Keep calling EDD until you reach someone, but specifically ask for a "disability/PFL transition specialist" when you get through. Regular reps often don't have the authority to resolve these issues. Also double-check your EDD Online account to make sure all your certifications for pregnancy disability are complete - any pending certification can hold up the whole process.

•This!!! I had a one-day gap and it took forever to fix! Always make sure your PFL start date is EXACTLY the day after your pregnancy disability ends.

UPDATE: I finally got through to an EDD agent (used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above - actually worked!) and found out my claim was stuck because they never received my doctor's certification to close out my pregnancy disability. Even though my doctor swore they sent it! The agent helped me file a request for backdate and is sending me the forms to have my doctor resubmit. Should be resolved in 7-10 days. Fingers crossed! Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! This is exactly why speaking with an agent is so important - these transition issues almost always require manual intervention. Make sure your doctor sends the certification via fax with a cover sheet clearly stating your EDD Customer Account Number and claim details. Keep that fax confirmation as proof of submission.

wait what happens if my doctor already submitted the disability paperwork before i even gave birth?? like they put my due date but i'm still pregnant?? will that mess everything up????

•No, that's actually normal. Your doctor submits the initial certification with the estimated due date, but after delivery, they need to submit a final certification with the actual delivery date and recovery period. Make sure your doctor knows when you actually gave birth so they can send in that final paperwork. This is critical for the transition to baby bonding PFL.
