Still waiting for PFL baby bonding benefits after transitioning from disability - no payment after 4 weeks?!

Feeling really frustrated with this whole EDD process! I finished my pregnancy disability leave about 4 weeks ago after having my daughter and immediately filed for baby bonding PFL. But I haven't received ANY communication about my claim status or payment amount. The EDD website says processing takes up to 3 weeks, but I'm well past that now with complete silence. I've been desperately trying to reach someone - literally calling 20-30 times every single day for the past two weeks and either get disconnected or stuck on hold forever. Has anyone else experienced delays transitioning from disability to PFL recently? Is this the new normal? We're starting to panic about bills since I budgeted expecting these benefits to start by now. Any info on current wait times would be super helpful!

Uggh, the EXACT same thing happened to me in January! It took 5 WEEKS from when I applied for PFL baby bonding before I saw a penny. No explanation, no notifications, nothing. And yeah, it was impossible to get through on the phones. The whole system is broken... they tell you 3 weeks but that's a joke. One day the money just showed up on my EDD debit card without warning. So frustrating when you're trying to budget with a newborn.

OMG 5 weeks?! That's terrifying - we can't go that long. Did you ever manage to speak to anyone? Did they backpay you for all those weeks at least?

i had my baby in december and got paid within 2 weeks after applying for pfl so its definitely not normal. did u file online or with paper forms? online is way faster. also check ur account to see if theres any messages about missing info they might need

I filed online and checked my account obsessively - no messages, no requests for info, nothing! Just says "claim received" with the date I submitted. That makes me even more worried that something's wrong if you got paid in 2 weeks... ugh!

This is actually becoming more common recently with transitions from pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding. The EDD system sometimes flags these transition claims for additional review, especially if there's even a tiny gap in the dates or if information doesn't exactly match between the two claims. Three important things to check: 1. Verify your last day of pregnancy disability matches exactly with the start date of your PFL claim (no gaps) 2. Check your EDD online account to ensure all identity verification is complete 3. Confirm your physician properly completed the bonding certification If everything looks correct on your end, the most effective way to resolve this is to speak directly with an EDD representative. Unfortunately, as you've discovered, that's extremely difficult right now with their overwhelmed phone system.

Thank you for the detailed response! I triple-checked everything when filing: my disability ended on a Friday and I started PFL the following Monday (so just the weekend gap). My identity is verified (I did that during pregnancy disability) and my bonding certification shows as received. It really sounds like I need to somehow get through to a human!

I was stuck in a similar situation last month, calling over and over with no luck. Someone on another thread recommended trying Claimyr - it's a service that basically waits on hold with EDD for you and then calls you when an agent is available. I was skeptical but desperate, so I tried it and got through to an EDD rep in about 30 minutes. They sorted my transition issue right away and I got paid the following week. They have a demo video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 and the website is claimyr.com. Way better than wasting hours and days redialing!

I'm going through a similar situation right now - I submitted my PFL claim exactly 3 weeks ago after transitioning from disability and haven't heard anything either. Some unofficial information I found said that current processing times are actually 4-6 weeks despite what their website says about the 3-week timeline. One thing that might be happening: EDD is currently experiencing a significant backlog due to a new verification system they implemented in February 2025. Claims submitted after that date are taking longer to process, especially transition claims like ours that go from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. I'll update this thread when my claim finally processes so you have another data point. Hang in there!

New verification system? I hadn't heard about that! That would explain SO MUCH. My sister got her baby bonding PFL in like 2 weeks last year, so I was expecting the same timeline. Now I'm stuck in limbo too. Please do update when yours processes!

When this happened to me (2 months ago), it turned out they needed additional documentation but NEVER SENT ME A NOTIFICATION! I only found out after finally getting through to a rep who told me they'd sent a letter that I never received. Check your physical mail carefully - they sometimes send paper requests even if you applied online. Also - one trick that helped me get through: call exactly at 8:00:01 AM when they open, and use the Spanish line (option 2) then ask for English service when connected. The Spanish queue is typically shorter. I always got through within 15-20 minutes this way instead of the hours on the English line.

That's a great tip about the Spanish line! I'll try that first thing tomorrow morning. And I've been checking mail obsessively but nothing from EDD yet. It's so stressful that they might need something but won't tell you!

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning using the Spanish line trick! The representative found that there was a "system flag" on my claim because my baby's birthdate was entered differently on my disability claim vs my PFL claim (I accidentally put 02/14/2025 on one form and 2/14/2025 on the other - literally just missing a zero). Such a tiny error causing weeks of delay and stress! The rep fixed it immediately and said I should receive payment within 48 hours with full backpay. For anyone else stuck in limbo - definitely keep trying to reach them because it might be something simple holding things up!

That is RIDICULOUS! A missing zero should NOT cause a month-long delay in benefits that families depend on! But I'm so glad you got it resolved. The EDD system needs a complete overhaul.
