EDD Baby Bonding Payment Delay - Filed After Disability But No Money Yet
I just transitioned from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL on December 5th and STILL haven't received a single payment! My disability payments ended right on schedule, then I submitted my baby bonding claim immediately after (exactly as my doctor told me to). It's been over 3 weeks of complete silence from EDD. I've got bills piling up and a newborn at home! I've called 17 times this week alone and can't get through to anyone. The online portal just shows 'pending' with no explanation. Is this normal? How long did others wait after transitioning from disability to baby bonding before seeing payments? I'm seriously panicking about rent next month...

•6 WEEKS?? Oh my god, I can't wait that long! Did they backpay you for all that time at least?

This is actually a common issue with the disability to baby bonding transition. Even though they're both administered by EDD, they're technically separate claims that have to be processed independently. What often happens is your disability claim closes correctly, but the new PFL claim goes into the general processing queue rather than being fast-tracked as a continuation. A few things that might help: 1. Check if you used the correct DE2508 form specifically for PFL 2. Verify your doctor provided all required medical documentation 3. Make sure your baby's birth certificate info was submitted 4. Double-check that your last day of disability and first day of PFL don't overlap at all In my experience, transition claims should process within 7-10 business days if everything is in order, but the December holiday period probably added delay.

•Thank you for the detailed info! I definitely used the DE2508 form and submitted my baby's birth certificate. My doctor handled all the medical stuff. The last day of disability was Dec 4 and I filed for PFL starting Dec 5, so no overlap. I'm thinking the holiday backlog must be the issue. But how do I actually reach someone to check on this?

The EDD system is GARBAGE!! I had the EXACT same problem after my maternity disability ended in October. Nobody answers the phone, the website is useless, and meanwhile they expect us to just magically pay our bills with no income?? I ended up driving to an actual EDD office after 4 weeks of nothing (with my 6-week-old in tow!) just to get someone to look at my claim. Turns out they were "missing" documentation that I definitely submitted. Such BS.

•That's so frustrating! I don't even know where the nearest EDD office is, and I really don't want to drag my newborn out in this weather if I can avoid it. Did they at least fix it quickly once you went in person?

its totally the holiday backlog thing. everyone at edd takes vacation in december and nothing gets processed lol. my sister works for the state (not edd but similar) and says end of year is when everything slows down. just wait another week maybe?

•I really hope that's all it is! I'll try to be patient for another week, but it's hard when you're watching your savings disappear with a new baby.

You need to call them, but getting through is the hard part. I struggled with this exact issue last year - perfect disability claim, then total silence on baby bonding. After days of calling, I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that basically calls EDD for you and connects you when they get through to a real person. Saved me HOURS of redial hell. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Once I actually spoke to someone, they found my claim was stuck because they needed clarification on my last day worked (even though it was clearly documented). The agent fixed it right away and my payment was processed the next day. Sometimes these claims just need a human to push them through the system.

•Thank you for this tip! I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Just watched the video and it looks pretty straightforward. I'll give this a shot tomorrow morning.

When I had my baby last spring my benefits were delayed by almost 3 weeks just because of a small error I made on the form. I checked box 6 instead of box 7 or something ridiculous like that. Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes there's a message about what's missing.

•I've been checking the online portal multiple times a day and there's nothing there except "pending" with no explanation or requests for additional info. It's so frustrating!

Just wanted to follow up - did you have any luck getting through to EDD? One other thing to consider: sometimes the delay happens because they're recalculating your benefit amount. If your wages changed at all during your base period, they have to recalculate for the PFL portion even if you had the same employer throughout disability and baby bonding.

•I used that Claimyr service yesterday and FINALLY got through to a real person! You were right - they said my claim was stuck because my employer submitted quarterly wage info right after I filed, which triggered a manual review. The agent pushed it through and said I should see payment in 2-3 business days. They're going to backpay everything too. Such a relief!! Thanks everyone for your help and letting me know I wasn't alone in this frustration.
