EDD PFL delay after pregnancy disability - no payments showing up in account

Just transitioned from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL about 2 weeks ago and I'm getting worried. When I check my EDD account online, it shows absolutely NOTHING for my PFL claim - no status, no payment info, nothing! Is this normal?? With disability the payments came pretty quick but now I'm panicking about paying bills. Also, will EDD automatically send me information about when I need to report my return-to-work date or do I need to do something for that? First time mom here and totally lost with this whole process. Thanks in advance!

the same exact thing happened to me!!! so frustrating. it took abt 3 weeks for my pfl to show up after my disability ended. EDD systems are so outdated 🙄

3 weeks?? Ugh that's so long to wait with no info. Did they at least backpay you for those weeks?

The transition from SDI (pregnancy disability) to PFL (baby bonding) often creates a gap in the online system. This is because they're technically two different claims, even though they're both through EDD. Your online account might look empty until they process your PFL claim in their system. As for return-to-work reporting, they will send you instructions about 1-2 weeks before your PFL period ends. You'll need to report your return-to-work date when you submit your final certification. If it's been more than 14 business days since you filed your PFL claim, I'd recommend calling EDD to check on the status. Their system delays have been worse than usual in 2025.

Thank you so much for explaining this! That makes a lot of sense about them being different claims. I filed exactly 14 business days ago, so I guess I'll give it a couple more days before I start calling.

not entirely true - mine showed up right away when i switched but my coworker had to wait almost a month. seems totally random if u ask me!!

I had this same issue earlier this year! The problem is that PFL and SDI claims are processed by different departments even though they're both through EDD. What worked for me was calling the PFL specific number (not the general EDD line) and asking them to check if your claim was received and if there are any issues they need to resolve. If your claim was properly submitted, they should backpay you from your PFL start date. And yes, they'll send you return-to-work info automatically, but keep an eye on your online account once it finally shows up. One tip: If you're using different banking info for PFL than you did for disability, that can slow things down too. Double check all your payment details are correct when you do get into the system.

Thank you! I didn't realize there was a specific PFL number - I've been trying the main EDD line. Do you happen to remember what the PFL specific number is?

After struggling with EXACTLY this issue last month, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was a complete game-changer for getting through to an actual PFL agent. Spent days getting disconnected or waiting forever on hold before trying it. They got me through to someone who fixed my transition problem in literally 15 minutes. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 The agent I spoke with explained that sometimes PFL claims get stuck in a holding pattern during the transition from disability, and they need to manually push it through on their end. Such a relief to finally get answers!

The transition from pregnnacy disability to PFL is THE WORST part of the entire maternity leave process!! I went through this in February and it took them THREE AND A HALF WEEKS to process my PFL claim after disability ended. No payments, nothing showing online, and bills piling up. It's like EDD purposely makes this difficult! Here's what I learned: the "transition" isn't really automatic even though they claim it is. Your disability claim has to officially close in their system before PFL starts processing. And they are SEVERELY understaffed in 2025 due to budget cuts. DO NOT wait for them to contact you! I'd start calling every day until you get through. And when they do finally process it, double-check that they have the correct benefit amount. They calculated mine wrong initially and I had to fight for the correct amount!

this!!! 👆 they messed up my benefit amount too and i wouldve been out $740 if i hadnt noticed

Just a quick update - the typical processing time for PFL claims after transitioning from pregnancy disability has increased to 14-21 business days as of March 2025 according to an EDD representative I spoke with recently. They're dealing with a 27% increase in claims this year with reduced staffing. Make sure when you do call that you specifically mention you're transitioning from SDI to PFL so they route you to the right department. The general EDD representatives often can't see or help with PFL transition issues.

Thanks for this info! I just hit 15 business days so I guess I'm still in the "normal" range. I'll mention the transition specifically when I call. Really appreciate everyone's help here!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! It's been 12 business days since my pregnancy disability ended and I filed for PFL, and my online account is completely blank. It's so stressful not knowing what's happening, especially when you're already dealing with a newborn and need that income. Has anyone had success getting updates through the automated phone system, or do you really need to speak to an actual person? I've been hesitant to tie up the phone lines but it sounds like calling might be the only way to get real answers. The uncertainty is almost worse than knowing there's a delay!
