PFL baby bonding claim filed 6 weeks ago - normal waiting time or something wrong?
I just finished my 6 weeks of pregnancy disability leave and submitted my PFL claim for baby bonding on January 8th (about 6 weeks ago). I haven't heard ANYTHING back yet - no approval, no denial, nothing in my online account except 'pending review'. Is this a normal wait time for transitioning from SDI to PFL in 2025? My disability payments stopped and I'm getting really anxious about paying bills while waiting for the baby bonding benefits to kick in. Do I need to call someone or submit additional documentation? This is my first baby so I'm new to all of this.

The transition from pregnancy disability (SDI) to baby bonding (PFL) can have some delays, but 6 weeks is definitely on the longer side. A few things to check: 1. Did you receive a confirmation number when you filed? 2. Check your UI Online account for any notices requiring additional information 3. Make sure you completed the DE2508 form correctly 4. Verify your identity documents were properly uploaded In my experience, most PFL claims are processed within 2-3 weeks. You should definitely call EDD at this point to check on the status.

•Thanks for the detailed response! I did get a confirmation number and don't see any notices on my account. I've tried calling every day this week but keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it disconnects me 😫

I had the EXACT same issue back in November when transitioning from pregancy disability to baby bonding. Turned out they needed "additional documentation" but never actually notified me!!! I wasted 5 weeks waiting before I finally got through to someone. CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY and don't wait like I did. The system is completely broken!!

•Same thing happened to my sister! They also needed "additional documentation" but never sent any notification. She just kept checking her account daily until she saw a message.

After dealing with the same nightmare trying to reach EDD about my baby bonding claim last month, I finally used this service called Claimyr. It got me through to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. Turns out they needed additional documentation for my case but never sent me any notification. The agent was able to tell me exactly what I needed to submit and I got my benefits a week later. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - definitely worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone at EDD.

•I was skeptical about Claimyr at first, but it did work for me too. Just to clarify though - it doesn't guarantee they'll solve your issue, it just gets you through to an actual EDD representative instead of being disconnected. In my case, they needed additional medical certification that I didn't know about.

This is definitely longer than normal for a transition from SDI to PFL. The standard processing time in 2025 should be around 10-14 days max. Since you're transitioning from pregnancy disability to baby bonding, these are usually faster because your identity has already been verified in the system. One common issue that causes delays: if your last day of pregnancy disability doesn't match exactly with the first day of your PFL claim. For example, if your SDI ended on January 7th, your PFL should start January 8th with no gaps. I'd suggest: 1. Keep calling early in the morning (8:00 AM) 2. Check all documents for accuracy 3. Verify your identity authentication is current 4. Make sure your employer confirmed your leave status Also, all benefits will be backpaid from your filing date once approved.

•Thank you! This is really helpful. I double-checked my dates and there's no gap between my SDI and PFL claim dates. I'll keep trying to call first thing in the morning.

when i had my baby in 2024 it took like 3 weeks so 6 weeks seems way too long honestly

•I finally got through yesterday! Turns out they needed verification from my employer about my leave status, but the request was sent to an old HR email address we don't use anymore. The agent resent the request to the correct email and said once they hear back, my claim should be processed within 48 hours. And yes, they'll backpay from my original filing date!

•That's such a relief! I'm so glad you finally got through and figured out what the hold-up was. It's crazy that they sent the employer verification to the wrong email and didn't bother to follow up when they didn't hear back. The EDD system really needs better communication protocols. Hope you get your backpay soon!
