Anyone received EDD PFL approval for baby bonding recently? Wait times seem crazy!

I just submitted my baby bonding PFL claim on Tuesday after my 6 weeks of pregnancy disability ended. The EDD rep told me processing times are 'normal' but wouldn't give me any specific timeframe. My savings are running low and I'm starting to stress about making rent next month if this drags on. For those who applied for PFL recently, how long did your approval take? Did you get paid right after approval or was there another waiting period? This is my first baby and I'm trying to plan our budget for the next couple months. Any insights appreciated!!

I applied in January 2025 and it took exactly 14 days from submission to approval. Then another 2-3 days for the money to hit my account. From what I've heard though, processing times have gotten worse since then. Make sure you submitted the DE2508 form completely - any missing info can delay things significantly.

Thanks! I double-checked my DE2508 before submitting and everything seemed complete. Did you do anything to check on status during those 14 days or just wait?

4 weeks?? That's terrifying. Did they backpay you for all those weeks once approved?

The EDD system is completely broken right now. My PFL claim took SIX WEEKS to process in March 2025. They blame it on \

Same experience here! Got approved last week after 5 weeks of waiting. The most annoying part was seeing my claim just sit there as

I actually just got approved 2 days ago after waiting 3 weeks and 4 days (I was counting every single day lol). Make absolutely sure your employer completed their portion correctly - that's what held mine up. I had to call my HR department twice to get them to fix something, which reset my place in line. The most frustrating part was not being able to talk to an actual person at EDD to find out what was happening!

This is why I'm so glad I used Claimyr last week when I couldn't get through to EDD about my baby bonding claim. It got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - the rep was able to tell me exactly why my claim was delayed (missing doctor info) so I could fix it right away instead of waiting for a letter.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Sounds like I need to mentally prepare for potentially 3-6 weeks of waiting, which is really stressful. I just checked with my employer and they said they submitted everything correctly, but who knows if that's actually true. @system_critic I'm definitely worried about the bills stacking up while waiting. @practical_solution I'll check with HR again to make doubly sure. And @casual_commenter yes, they did confirm I'll get backpay, but that doesn't help with immediate expenses!

I'm on week 2 of waiting for my PFL claim after my C-section recovery SDI ended. The doctor's office swears they submitted everything right but who knows??? I spent 2 hrs on hold yesterday only to get hung up on. This whole system is designed to make us give up I think.

I'd recommend checking your UI Online account daily. Sometimes they'll post notices there requesting additional information before they send anything by mail. And technically, the processing time shouldn't reset completely when transitioning from SDI to PFL for baby bonding since they already have most of your information. This is especially true if you filed the PFL claim before your SDI benefits ended, which creates a smoother transition.

Wait what?? I didn't know I could file PFL before SDI ended! Nobody told me that! ugh

Has anyone tried that Claimyr service mentioned above? I'm in the same boat waiting on my claim and getting desperate. I've been calling for days with no luck getting through to EDD.

I just checked out claimyr.com after seeing it mentioned here. Might try it tomorrow if I still can't get through on my own. At this point I'd do anything to just talk to a human at EDD!

To answer your original question with current info: The official EDD processing time for PFL claims as of April 2025 is 14 business days (about 3 calendar weeks). However, I've been helping clients with their claims and have observed actual processing times of 3-5 weeks for standard claims. \n\nThings that can delay your claim:\n1. Incomplete DE2508 form\n2. Employer verification delays\n3. Transition issues if coming from SDI\n4. Medical provider documentation issues\n5. ID verification (especially with uncommon situations)\n\nMy advice: If you don't see movement by week 3, you need to speak with someone. Keep detailed records of all communications. And yes, you will receive backpay from your claim date once approved, but that doesn't help with current bills.

Thank you for this detailed info! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm at day 9 now so I'll wait until the 3-week mark before panicking. I'll definitely start keeping better records of all communications too.

This is actually true! My claim status was still showing as pending online, but when I checked my BofA EDD card balance, the funds had been deposited. The online status updated about 48 hours later. The systems don't always sync immediately.
