EDD UI: Only received payment for 1 week, 2nd week pending. What to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. I got my payment for the first week, but the second week is still pending. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to figure out why only half of my benefit came through. Any advice on what I should do or say when I finally get through to someone at the unemployment office?

To address your issue effectively, consider a few strategies. First, understand that the delay could be due to a variety of reasons including identity verifications, weekly claim errors, or system glitches. Checking your online account regularly for any notifications or updates can be helpful. Also, while Claimyr's calling tool is a resource that some users find effective for cutting down wait times, it's worthwhile weighing the cost with your urgency and need. Alternatively, timing your calls during less busy hours can also increase your chances of speaking to an agent. Always keep detailed notes of your interactions including any reference numbers given during your calls, as these can be crucial if you need to follow up. Furthermore, continuing to engage with the community can provide support and potentially new solutions as others share their experiences. Stay persistent and hopefully, you'll have your issue resolved soon.

•Great advice! I think exploring all avenues and keeping track of every interaction is the way to go.

Ugh, welcome to the club. This happens ALL THE TIME. The system is so broken, it's ridiculous. I've had weeks where my payments were pending for no reason. Best advice? Keep calling and don't give up.

•I totally agree! Persistence is key here. The lines are always busy, but eventually you'll get through. It's frustrating, but hang in there!

Here's what you need to do when you get someone on the phone: 1. Be polite but firm. These reps deal with angry people all day. 2. Explain that you received payment for week 1 but week 2 is pending. 3. Ask if there's any flag or issue on your account causing the delay. 4. If they can't see a problem, request that they escalate it to a tier 2 specialist. 5. Get a reference number for your call! 6. Ask about any additional docs you might need to provide. 7. Find out if there's a timeframe for resolution. Remember, sometimes it's just a system glitch and they can fix it on the spot. Don't hang up until you have a clear next step or resolution. Good luck!

•I agree, keeping a record is crucial. Also, if you have a callback option, take it. Saves time!

•Hey, don't knock it till you try it! EDD is stuck in the stone age anyway 🦕

•In all seriousness, older methods sometimes do work better with EDD. It's worth a shot if nothing else works.

Have you checked if there were any changes to your claim recently? Sometimes even small updates can cause payments to pend while they review.

•Exactly, any updates or adjustments can trigger a review. Best to verify if there were any recent modifications.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been in the same boat. It's like trying to nail jello to a wall getting straight answers from EDD. Keep us posted on what happens!

This happened to me last month. Turns out there was an identity verification issue that they never bothered to tell me about. Took 3 weeks to resolve. Hang in there!

•That's rough! It seems identity verification issues are quite common. Double-check your documents and info online.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com/?ref=red

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

•How long did it take to get through? I've been trying for weeks!

•@profile 5 I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and it actually worked. @profile 6 It took about 2 hours, which is way better than the days I spent trying on my own.

•$20?! That's highway robbery! The government should make this easier for free 😡

•While Claimyr can be useful in a pinch, it's a shame we have to resort to paying for a service that should be freely available. Hope more improvements come soon!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's a flag or issue that you can see there. It might give you a clue about why the second week is pending.

•Yeah, I looked but there's nothing obvious. Just says 'pending' with no explanation. So frustrating!

•It's really inconvenient! Maybe try logging in at a different time or in a different browser. Sometimes these systems have quirks.

I've been through this exact situation! In my case, it turned out to be a random system audit that triggered after my first payment went through. What helped me was logging into my UI Online account and checking the "History" section - sometimes there are cryptic messages buried in there that give clues. Also, when you do get through to someone, ask them to check if there's a "stop payment indicator" on your account. That's the technical term they use internally. If there is one, they can usually remove it right away once they verify your identity. Don't let them tell you to "just wait" - ask for specific next steps and a timeline. You've got this! 💪

•This is super helpful advice! I never would have thought to look for a "stop payment indicator" - that sounds like insider knowledge. Going to check my History section right now and definitely using that specific terminology when I call. Thank you so much! 🙏

I went through something similar a few months ago! My second week got stuck in pending for almost 10 days. What finally worked for me was calling and specifically asking them to check for any "eligibility reviews" on my account. Sometimes they trigger these mini-reviews randomly and forget to notify you. Also, make sure you didn't accidentally answer any of the weekly certification questions differently than usual - even small changes can flag your claim. The rep I talked to was able to see that my account had been flagged for a routine review and cleared it immediately. Definitely push for specifics when you call - don't accept vague "it's processing" answers. Good luck! 🍀
