When will benefits resume after UI overpayment? Need help contacting NYDOL!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I had an overpayment on my unemployment benefits and I'm trying to figure out when I'll start receiving benefits again. Has anyone been through this? Any advice on how to get in touch with someone who can give me a straight answer? I've been trying to call but it's like hitting a brick wall.

Ugh, overpayments are the worst! I went through something similar last year. It took me FOREVER to get it sorted out. Have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school, but sometimes it works better than calling.

•Faxing? What year is this, 1995? 😂 But for real, if it works, it works. Might have to dust off the old fax machine.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a shot. Do you remember how long it took for them to respond to your fax?

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to talk to someone.

•I get the skepticism, but after spending hours trying to get through, it was worth every penny to me. Got my issue resolved in one call.

•Can you give more details about how it works? Do they guarantee you'll get through?

•Sure! You choose the department you need to reach, pay, and they start calling. When an agent picks up, your phone rings and you're connected. No guarantee, but it worked for me and saved me a ton of time.

Listen up, cause I've been down this road before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every interaction. 2. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. 3. Know your rights. Look up the unemployment laws in your state. 4. If possible, offer to set up a repayment plan for the overpayment. 5. Consider reaching out to your local state representative. They can sometimes cut through the red tape. Remember, the system is designed to be frustrating. Don't give up!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything. Any tips on how to approach the repayment plan conversation?

•Glad to help! For the repayment plan, be honest about what you can afford. Start low - they can always counteroffer. And get EVERYTHING in writing. Good luck!

This whole system is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months to get my issue resolved. It's like they don't want us to get the help we need. 🤬

•Have you tried reaching out to your local news station? Sometimes public pressure can work wonders.

Quick question - did you appeal the overpayment decision? Sometimes they make mistakes, and an appeal could potentially resolve the issue faster.

•I didn't even know that was an option! How do I go about filing an appeal?

•There should be instructions on how to appeal in the overpayment notice you received. Usually, you have to do it within a certain timeframe, so check ASAP!

guys, i think we're all missing the bigger picture here. why is the system so broken in the first place? we need to demand better from our government!

•100% agree. But how do we even begin to fix something this messed up?

•Vote. It's the only way things will change. Research candidates who prioritize fixing these systems.

Has anyone had luck with the online portal? I've heard mixed things about it.

•It worked for me, but only after I cleared my browser cache and tried on a different device. Worth a shot!

Hang in there, OP. I know it feels hopeless, but keep pushing. Took me 2 months, but I finally got my benefits sorted. Don't give up!
