NYSDOL Unemployment: When will benefits resume after overpayment deductions?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. I've got an overpayment situation going on, and they're taking money out to cover it. Thing is, I have no clue when I'll start getting my regular benefits again. Anyone been through this? Any idea how long it usually takes for benefits to kick back in after they've sorted out the overpayment stuff?

Ugh, overpayments are the worst! I went through something similar last year. It took about 2 months for my benefits to start up again after they finished deducting the overpayment. But I've heard it can vary. Have you tried calling the unemployment office to get a more specific timeline?

2 months?! 😱 That's rough. I've been trying to call them but its impossible to get through. Feels like I'm screaming into the void

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can snag a spot in the queue before it fills up for the day.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. The $20 was worth it to finally get some answers and peace of mind.

How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

It took about an hour and a half, but I just went about my day and they called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck on hold myself!

Here's what I know about overpayments and benefit resumption: • The time it takes can vary depending on the amount of overpayment and your weekly benefit rate. • Generally, benefits resume once the overpayment is fully recovered. • Some states allow partial repayment plans, where you receive reduced benefits while paying back. • It's crucial to respond to all notices and keep communication open with the unemployment office. • If you're facing hardship, you might be eligible for a waiver or a more lenient repayment plan. Your best bet is to get in touch with a representative who can look at your specific case. Keep detailed records of all communications and payments in the meantime.

am i the only 1 who thinks its ridiculous that they can just cut off our benefits like this??? we rely on this money to survive and they treat us like we're trying to scam them or something šŸ™„

It's frustrating, but remember overpayments often happen due to honest mistakes or misunderstandings. The system isn't perfect, but they do need a way to correct errors.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's info there about repayment schedules and when regular benefits will resume. Might save you a phone call if you're lucky!

Good idea, I'll take another look. Last time I checked it was pretty vague, but maybe they've updated something. Thanks!
