When will UI benefits resume after overpayment issue? (NYDOL)
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an overpayment issue and I'm trying to figure out when I'll start receiving benefits again. It's been a problem since yesterday and I'm getting pretty worried. Has anyone else gone through this? Any advice on how to handle it or how long it usually takes to resolve?

Ugh, overpayments are the worst! š« I went through something similar last year. It took me about 3 weeks to get it sorted out. Have you tried calling the unemployment office? That's usually the best way to get answers.

I've been trying to call them all day but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

Good advice! Also, keep trying throughout the day. I know its annoying but persistence pays off

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

How long did you have to wait for the call back?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than being stuck on hold yourself!

Here's what you need to know about overpayments and getting your benefits back: ā¢ First, make sure you understand why the overpayment occurred. Was it a mistake on your part or theirs? ā¢ If it was their mistake, you can file an appeal. Do this ASAP as there are usually strict deadlines. ā¢ If it was your mistake, you'll likely need to repay the amount before benefits resume. ā¢ You can often set up a repayment plan if you can't pay it all at once. ā¢ Keep certifying for benefits each week, even if you're not receiving payments. ā¢ Document EVERYTHING. Every call, letter, and interaction with the unemployment office. ā¢ Be prepared for a wait. These issues can take weeks or even months to resolve. Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process, but it will get sorted out eventually.

This is great advice. I wish I had known all this when I dealt with my overpayment last year. Would've saved me so much stress!

Quick question - did you receive a notice about the overpayment? There should be instructions on there about how to proceed. If you didn't get one, that could be part of the problem.

I got an email about it yesterday, but it didn't have much info. Just said there was an overpayment and my benefits were on hold.

Hmm, that's not very helpful. Definitely try to get someone on the phone. You need more details about whats going on

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree just to navigate the unemployment system? š¤ It shouldn't be this complicated!
